⚠️ URGENT warning to Sunderland dog owners after suspected TOXIC FOOD found scattered near Barnes Park

A Sunderland dog owner has issued an urgent warning after discovering a large amount of Christmas cake scattered across a green space between Mount Road and Barnes Park.

The resident says the cake contained raisins, dark chocolate and unidentified pellets, raising serious concerns for pets.

Her own dog reportedly ate some of the food and was taken to an emergency vet for treatment.

She said: “I tried to pick as much up as possible but there was loads and I am worried other dogs eat some.”

Raisins and chocolate can be toxic to dogs, potentially causing serious illness.

Dog walkers are being urged to keep pets away from discarded food in the area.

Anyone whose dog may have eaten some should contact a vet immediately, even if their pet appears well.

It is not known who left the food there, what the pellets contain or whether it was deliberately placed.

As part of our week off, we had a go at a few agility course activities today. Phoebe did really well, but Fleur wasn't quite so keen and thought the equipment more suited to giving shade 🤣🤣. Our lovely pals Daisy and her mam joined us, so good fun was had all round! 🥰🥰 xx

The Social Lead is a monthly South Tyneside community dog walk focused on safe, on-lead socialisation, confidence building, and creating a supportive environment for both dogs and owners.

Started in October 2025, this page is dedicated to advertising upcoming walks whilst also advocating for dog wellbeing, appropriate socialisation, and respectful walking etiquette.

The Social Lead is run by It's a Woof Life - a South Tyneside based dog walker and dog trainer.

Why did I start The Social Lead?
Because socialisation is often misunderstood. My own dog struggled for years. These walks were created with dogs like her in mind - dogs who deserve patience, understanding, and positive experiences.

Who are the walks suitable for?
🐾 Nervous or anxious dogs
🐾 Puppies building safe social skills
🐾 Dogs needing confidence around others
🐾 Dogs who benefit from calm, structured, on-lead walks
Some dogs with reactivity may also be suitable depending on their individual needs - please message Abby directly to discuss whether the walk would be the right fit for your dog 💙

Important walking etiquette:
To keep everyone safe and comfortable, all dogs must remain on lead at all times, and owners are asked to give other dogs plenty of space and respect throughout the walk. This ensures a calm environment where dogs can build confidence without pressure.

Phoebe has always been highly observant, responsive, intelligent and full of love.

This just popped up of her as a beautiful pup. It just showed exactly what you could expect of the adult ... Such a precious girl! ###
