Too hot for dog walks today so we are staying put in the shade 💕
🐾 When Is It Too Hot to Walk Your Dog? 🐾
Please remember that dogs can overheat quickly, and hot pavements can burn sensitive paws.
🌡️ Under 20°C – Generally safe for most dogs to enjoy their walk.
🌡️ 20°C – 23°C – Take care, especially with older dogs, puppies, flat faced breeds, and dogs with thick coats. Consider shorter walks and carry water.
🌡️ 24°C – 27°C – Use caution. Walk early morning or late evening only. Avoid strenuous exercise and check pavement temperatures.
🌡️ 28°C – 31°C – High risk of overheating. Keep walks very short and stick to shaded areas if absolutely necessary.
🌡️ 32°C and above – Too hot for walks. Opt for indoor enrichment, garden play, or cool activities instead.
🐾 Pavement Check: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.
💧 Always provide fresh water and watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or difficulty breathing.
