Meet Goose!

This gorgeous Golden Retriever puppy came to see Chloe, one of our veterinary nurses at our Blandford branch, for a weight check and to collect his next flea and worm treatment.

During his visit, Chloe also chatted with Goose’s owner about his body condition and general puppy health. Goose was a very good boy and will be coming back every 4 weeks as he continues to grow!

Did you know we offer Weigh and Worm clinics with our veterinary nurses?
Once your puppy or kitten has completed their first vaccination course, our qualified nurses can see them every month until they are fully grown.

These visits are a great way to:
🐶 Monitor their weight as they grow
🪱 Keep their worming treatment up to date
🐾 Get them used to visiting the practice and being handled
💬 Give you an opportunity to ask questions about their health, diet and development

Regular, positive visits from a young age can help your puppy build confidence and positive associations with the vets, making future visits a little less daunting.

If you have a new puppy or kitten, speak to our team about our Weigh and Worm clinics! 💚

We're proud to support the wellbeing of our team, both inside and outside of the workplace.

A huge thank you to Nicola Green Consultancy for delivering another fantastic menopause support session for our staff. Creating a safe, supportive space to share experiences and practical advice is something we truly value, and we're so pleased to hear the positive feedback from everyone who attended.

Thank you for your continued support of the Friars Moor team. 💚

Not only did my incredible local vets Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic perform an unexpected and unprecedented major op on my 🐶 earlier this year (unknown polycystic ovaries) but since 2021 they’ve regularly asked me to provide menopause support to their employees.

This month we provided something a little different.

We invited women who were at any stage of menopause to join us for a relaxed session of knowledge share and interaction.

My key sharings were:

✔️ There is no ‘one size fits all’
✔️ It is never ‘just’ menopause - life is happening
✔️ HRT or no HRT - what else can we do
✔️ Practical tips for their worst symptoms
✔️ Impact on personal relationships
✔️ Tips to support themselves at work & at home
✔️ Confidence - how to start rebuilding it

They enjoyed refreshments 🧀 & 🍇 and had the opportunity to share in a safe and non judgmental space.

It’s not big things women need when going through this time in life. It’s the little things. Providing a space to share and be heard can be so powerful.

The firm have once again confirmed they’ve received great feedback from the ladies who joined us and taken the support one step further… created a ‘helpful’ sheet for use if they want to ✅

I love being asked back to existing clients to support in new ways that suit their business and its employees.

Why we need to see your pet to prescribe preventative flea, tick and worm treatment...

In September 2023, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) updated its guidance on a range of veterinary medicines, including antiparasitic treatments such as flea and worm products. As a result, there are now stricter regulations surrounding the prescribing of these medications.

At Friars Moor Veterinary Clinic, we have introduced an in-house flea and worm risk assessment to ensure every pet receives the most appropriate treatment for their individual needs.

When our vets prescribe flea and worm treatments, they carry out a lifestyle assessment by asking a series of questions about your pet. These may include whether your pet eats slugs or snails, scavenges or eats unsuitable items, lives with other pets, is walking in public parks, or has regular contact with young children.

This assessment enables us to select the most suitable treatment based on your pet's individual risk factors, ensuring they receive the protection they need while avoiding unnecessary medication. Wherever possible, we do our best to prescribe medications that are less damaging for the environment.
