I wanted to give a huge and very well-deserved shout-out to the wonderful team at Cramar Vets. ❤️

Anyone who knows Fergus knows that his medical history could probably fill a small novel! With his autoimmune disease, severe food and environmental allergies, long-term steroid dependency and the various problems we've had to manage over the years, getting completely to grips with his rather enormous medical rap sheet was no small task.

From day one, however, the care he has received from Cramar has been absolutely exemplary.
Nothing with Fergus is ever straightforward, and every decision has to take into account the bigger picture of his health. I have been incredibly impressed by how thorough and careful they have been with him. Every decision is considered in the context of his wider health, and whenever something hasn't been quite right, they have investigated it properly and made sure we have a clear plan going forward.

But what has meant just as much to me is how they treat him as a little individual, rather than simply a complicated medical case. He is fussed over, loved and cared for as though he were one of their own, and as someone who is probably slightly ridiculous about her dogs 😂, knowing that they are in the hands of people who genuinely care about them means everything.

And then, of course, there is Lilly! ❤️

Between Cramar and her team at Willows who continue to oversee her following her spinal surgery, Lilly has certainly had her fair share of veterinary attention too. Once again, the care she has received from Cramar has been nothing short of excellent. They understand her history, they are incredibly thorough with her, and I always know that her wellbeing comes first.

When you have dogs with complicated medical histories, finding a veterinary team you trust completely is absolutely invaluable. You need people who will look beyond the obvious, consider the whole dog, communicate with you and understand just how precious that little animal is to the person sitting on the other side of the consulting room.

Cramar have done all of that and more for Fergus and Lilly. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Cramar.

So, from me and my two rather high-maintenance sausages 🌭🌭😂, thank you to the whole team at Cramar for the outstanding medical care, kindness, patience and love you continue to give them.

It is noticed, it is appreciated, and it means more than you probably realise. ❤️🐾

Hi everyone,
I hope you and your four-legged family are enjoying the start of autumn! 🍂🐾

I just wanted to send a little reminder as we head into one of the busiest times of year at Pampered Paws.

🐾 Please book ahead for winter
Winter appointments fill up surprisingly quickly, particularly as we get closer to Christmas. I strongly recommend having at least your next two grooming appointments booked in advance wherever possible.

There are plenty of appointments available when booked ahead, but recently I’ve worked quite a lot of additional overtime to squeeze in dogs who didn’t have their next appointment booked. These have all been for completely genuine reasons, and I’ve been very happy to help where I could.

Going forward, though, I won’t be able to continue adding extra appointments once my working day is full. Grooming is very hands-on work, and it’s important to me that every dog who comes through my door gets the same energy, patience, time and attention from me — whether they’re my first dog of the day or my last. Keeping my working days at a sensible level means I can continue giving every dog the standard of one-to-one care that I want them to have.

So please don’t panic — this isn’t because there aren’t appointments available! It simply means that pre-booking is really important, rather than relying on me being able to create an extra space once the diary is full.

If you know roughly how often your dog needs grooming, keeping two appointments booked ahead is the easiest way to make sure you always have the dates and times that suit you best. 🐶✂️

🍁 A few autumn reminders
• Check paws after walks – mud, grit and little bits of debris can easily collect between toes and pads.
• Keep on top of brushing – damp coats combined with harnesses, jumpers and coats can cause matting surprisingly quickly, particularly around armpits, chests and behind ears.
• Dry coats thoroughly – if your dog gets soaked on a walk, towel them off well and make sure dense or longer coats aren't left damp underneath.
• Watch those ears – wet weather and increased moisture can contribute to ear problems, so keep an eye out for redness, smell, excessive wax or head shaking.
• Autumn hazards – fallen conkers, acorns and some wild mushrooms can cause problems if eaten, so keep an extra eye on enthusiastic scavengers!

And finally, please remember that winter grooming is just as important as summer grooming. Keeping the coat longer for warmth is absolutely fine, but regular grooming is still essential to keep skin and coat healthy and prevent uncomfortable matting.

👂🐾 LET’S TALK ABOUT EARS! 🐾👂

Recently I’ve been seeing a LOT of dogs coming into the salon with very waxy, red, sore or smelly ears — and in some cases ears that are clearly causing significant discomfort.

This is particularly common in floppy-eared and heavily coated breeds. Those gorgeous fluffy ears and faces can create a warm, poorly ventilated environment around the ear where moisture, wax and debris can build up — exactly the sort of conditions in which yeast and bacteria can thrive.

✨ Regular ear care really does matter.
Please get into the habit of checking your dog’s ears at home. Healthy ears shouldn’t be red or painful, have a strong unpleasant smell, or contain large amounts of dark/waxy discharge.

✂️ And sometimes we need to sacrifice a little fluff for comfort.
If a dog already has sore, inflamed or troublesome ears, keeping very thick hair around the ear opening — or a full, fluffy face sitting against the ears — isn't always in their best interests.

Removing excess coat around the area can help with airflow, prevent hair becoming damp or contaminated with discharge and ear debris, make the ears easier to keep clean and allow you to actually SEE what's happening.

I completely understand that owners love their dog's fluffy faces and long ears — I do too! ❤️ But if your dog is uncomfortable, health and comfort have to come before maintaining a particular hairstyle.

During grooming I will trim or remove excess hair where it is appropriate and safe to do so. However, hair should NOT automatically be aggressively plucked from deep inside every dog's ear canal. This can cause irritation and inflammation in some dogs, so it needs to be considered individually and veterinary advice followed where necessary.

🩺 Please remember: groomers cannot diagnose or treat ear infections.
If I find an ear that is particularly red, inflamed, painful, smelly or producing excessive discharge — or your dog is persistently scratching or shaking their head — I will recommend having it checked by your vet.

Simply cleaning an infected or very inflamed ear won't fix the underlying problem, and repeatedly cleaning a sore ear without knowing the cause can sometimes make matters worse.

Regular grooming, sensible ear hygiene and veterinary treatment when needed all work together to keep ears comfortable and healthy. ❤️

And if I mention your dog's ears at collection, I'm not criticising your care or trying to spoil their haircut. I'm telling you because I've spotted something that could be causing your dog discomfort — and their welfare will always come before their hairstyle in my salon. 🐶❤️

🍂 Autumn is here! A little grooming reminder 🐾
Hello everyone! 🍂🐾

I can’t quite believe we’re heading into autumn already — where did the summer go?!
With the change in season, I wanted to send a little reminder about the importance of keeping up with your dog’s regular grooming schedule throughout autumn and winter.

🍁 WHY WINTER GROOMING MATTERS
It can be tempting to leave coats longer during the colder months, but longer doesn’t have to mean less grooming.
Wet walks, muddy fields, damp coats and winter jumpers or harnesses can all contribute to knots and matting. Once a coat becomes matted, it also takes much longer to dry properly and can trap moisture and dirt close to the skin.

Regular grooming throughout autumn and winter helps to keep the coat clean, comfortable and manageable, while allowing us to maintain a little more length where appropriate.

🐾 BOOKING AHEAD
If your dog is on a regular grooming schedule, I really recommend booking your next few appointments in advance rather than waiting until they’re due.
This means you can keep to the right schedule for their individual coat and secure the days and times that work best for you.
I still have a few September appointments available, and appointments are also open for the months ahead. 🍂

🎄 AND YES… CHRISTMAS!
I know it feels far too early to say it 😂 but Christmas appointments are always incredibly popular.
If you know you’ll want your dog looking gorgeous for Christmas, please get their autumn and Christmas appointments in the diary early rather than leaving it until December.

⚠️ PLEASE STOP DISTRACTING GUIDE DOGS ⚠️

This is something I feel really strongly about and something far more people need to understand.
A guide dog is a working dog — not a public pet.
I know that calling them, fussing them or offering them food is usually meant kindly, but when a guide dog is working, distracting them is NOT kind.

A guide dog is effectively their handler’s eyes.
When you call their name, stroke them, whistle at them, encourage them towards you or offer them treats, you are asking that dog to take their attention away from the person who is relying on them to navigate safely.And when this happens repeatedly, it can encourage a working dog to start looking towards other people for attention or food rather than remaining completely focused on their handler.

That can have a very real impact on someone’s safety, confidence and independence.
🐾 Do not call or try to get their attention while they're working.
🐾 Do not stroke or fuss them.
🐾 NEVER feed them or offer them treats.
🐾 Do not whistle, click, wave or encourage them towards you.
🐾 Please don't encourage children to approach them.
🐾 If you see a guide dog working, admire them from a distance and LET THEM WORK.

Guide dogs are incredibly well trained, but they are still dogs. Constant temptation and reinforcement from members of the public can undermine that training.

Their handler relies on them every single day. Their ability to move around independently and safely is far more important than anybody getting a cuddle or giving them a biscuit.
The kindest and most respectful thing you can do when you see a guide dog working is IGNORE THEM.

Please respect the dog.
Please respect their training.
And most importantly, please respect the person whose independence and safety depend on them. ❤️🐾

⚠️🌾 GRASS SEED WARNING — PLEASE CHECK YOUR DOGS! 🌾⚠️

I’m finding an incredible number of grass seeds in dogs at the moment — particularly in paws, between toes, ears, armpits and hidden within coats.

These tiny seeds might look harmless, but they can cause a LOT of trouble. 😩

Their sharp, pointed shape means they can pierce the skin and work their way further into the body, causing pain, swelling, infection and abscesses and sometimes needing veterinary treatment to locate and remove them.

🐾 After EVERY walk through long or dry grass, check:
🌾 Between every toe
🌾 Around and underneath paw pads
🌾 Inside and around ears
🌾 Armpits and groin
🌾 Around the eyes and face
🌾 Through longer or thicker areas of coat
🚨 Watch out for sudden: Limping • paw licking/chewing • head shaking • ear scratching • swelling • redness • tenderness

If you think one has actually penetrated the skin or entered an ear, please contact your vet rather than trying to dig it out yourself.
It takes just a couple of minutes to check them over after a walk and could save your dog a very sore paw — and you a rather expensive trip to the vet! 🙈

☀️ Summer Grooming Reminder – Please Book Ahead! ☀️

Just a little reminder that Pampered Paws is now fully booked until August. 🐾💙

As the weather gets warmer, many dogs need grooming more frequently to help keep them comfortable, remove excess coat, prevent matting, and maintain healthy skin. This means my diary fills up much faster over the summer months.

I'm receiving lots of messages asking for urgent appointments, and I genuinely wish I could fit everyone in. Unfortunately, I can't create appointments that don't exist. I'm already working extra hours and extending my days wherever I can, but I've now reached the point where my diary is completely full.

The best way to avoid disappointment is to book your next appointment before you leave the salon, or book several appointments in advance to keep your dog's grooming routine on track.

🐾 Welcome to Pampered Paws, Douglas! 🐾

What a superstar you were for your very first puppy groom! 💙

Douglas absolutely loved his warm bath the most and took everything in his stride. It was such a pleasure to meet this gorgeous boy, and I can't wait to watch him grow!

Puppy grooms are so much more than just getting clean. They're all about introducing your puppy to the grooming environment in a calm, positive way, helping them become familiar with the sights, sounds, smells and handling they'll experience throughout their lives.

These early visits help build confidence, reduce anxiety and create happy grooming experiences for years to come. 🛁✨

☀️ Advanced Heat Warning – Grooming Appointments ☀️

With temperatures forecast to exceed 30°C, I wanted to give everyone some advance notice regarding appointments at Pampered Paws.

The welfare of the dogs in my care will always come first. During periods of extreme heat, I may need to postpone or reschedule appointments if I feel conditions are not safe for your dog or for the grooming environment.

This decision is never taken lightly, but high temperatures can increase the risk of:

🐾 Heat stress and overheating
🐾 Difficulty regulating body temperature during drying and grooming
🐾 Increased stress and anxiety in some dogs
🐾 Higher risks for elderly dogs, flat-faced breeds, puppies, and dogs with underlying health conditions
🐾 Unsafe travel conditions to and from appointments

As a one-to-one groomer, your dog's comfort, safety and wellbeing will always be my priority over sticking to a schedule.

I will monitor the forecasts closely and contact affected clients directly if any changes become necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping me put our furry friends first during the hot weather. Please remember plenty of fresh water, shade, and avoid walking it cam still be 30c at 9pm! 😘
