Buying a horse?🐴

Deciding whether a horse or pony is right for you before buying can be difficult, and that is where pre-purchase exams (or vettings) come in. Getting a horse vetted gives you an idea of their general health and whether they are suitable for what you need, no matter if that's leisurely hacking, driving or competing.

Our equine vet Katie can perform both two- and five-stage vettings for registered and non-registered clients out on-yard. Two-stage vettings involve a full physical examination of the horse and assessment in-hand at both walk and trot, while five-stage vettings include an additional ridden assessment. Other tests, such as blood sampling and x-rays can also be included if required.

Urgent Bluetongue Update: Scotland is sadly no longer BTV-3 free, with the first case confirmed yesterday. There are now 289 confirmed cases, with a further 1,527 under investigation across England, Wales and Scotland. These figures refer to holdings, not individual animals. Confirmed cases are also likely to be around two weeks behind the current spread due to laboratory processing times, so the situation may be moving faster than the official figures show.

This is a rapidly developing situation and we strongly encourage clients to stay informed and act early. We will be holding a client meeting very soon to provide a further update and answer your questions. If you have concerns or need advice before then, please contact the practice as soon as possible to speak to one of our vets.
