⚠️Hot Weather Safety for Dogs ⚠️
With temperatures rising, it’s important to help keep our pets safe from heat-related illnesses.
🌡️Avoid Walking During the Hottest Part of the Day
Do not walk your dog when temperatures are high, regardless of the time of day. Hot pavements can cause painful burns to your dog’s paws, and even a short walk can put your dog at risk of heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Stick to early morning or late evening walks when it is coolest and always carry fresh water with you.
🐾 The 5 Second Pavement Test
If you can’t comfortably hold the back of your hand on the pavement for more than 5 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. Try to leave walks until the early morning or later in the evening when temperatures are cooler, and always take water with you so your dog can stay hydrated.
🚗 Never Leave Your Dog in a Parked Car
Even with the windows slightly open or the car parked in the shade, temperatures inside a vehicle can soar to dangerous levels very quickly, reaching up to 49 degrees on a warm day.
If you’re travelling with your dog:
✅ Ensure they have access to shade
✅ Use window shades where possible
✅ Offer water regularly
✅ Keep the car cool and well ventilated
Remember: If the car feels too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog.
