Whyte Whisker Pet Sitter High standard pet sitting service in your own home of cats, dogs, and small animals. This could be due to a number of factors (e.g.

Hi, I'm Lorna, an animal lover located in Strathaven, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. I am a fully insured, Disclosure Scotland checked pet sitter who is diploma certified in the following subjects: Feline First Aid, Canine First Aid, Understanding Feline Anxiety, Understanding Canine Anxiety, Canine Behaviour Training and Veterinary Assistant. I am a highly experienced cat owner and former cat and kitten voluntary fosterer. Over the years I have had the pleasure of being a responsible pet owner to a great variety of pets such as cats, dogs, fish (both indoor and outdoor), budgies, hamsters, gerbils and rabbits (to name but a few). I offer a bespoke, fully insured, one to one pet sitting service (for cats/kittens, dogs/puppies and small animals), as well as a dog walking service. Unlike many others who offer kennels or home boarding, I offer something a little different as I know that many pets are simply not suited to cattery or kennel environments. age, health conditions or temperament). Therefore, I provide a live in service for dogs; coming to your home and staying overnight with your dog(s) providing that much needed company and reassurance throughout both day and night. For my feline friends, I visit them in their own homes, from one to several times a day (depending on owner preference); therefore providing a cat care and cat feeding service. All cat sitting duties are undertaken such as litter tray cleans, feeding/watering, providing plenty of love, cuddles and attention, giving both mental stimulation and exercise via play, brushing coats, and administering medication if required. For my canine chums, all dog sitting and puppy sitting duties are undertaken such as feeding/watering, administering medication (including injections for diabetic dogs), brushing coats, providing mental stimulation and exercise through play, going for lovely walks, and providing company, love, cuddles, reassurance and attention whilst their owner is away. I provide both doggy day care in your home (from as little as one or two hours to a full day) and overnight care for your dog in its own home, therefore if you are looking for a dog friendly live in dog sitter, then look no further! I also offer solo dog walks (not group walks), and for your dogs only, to ensure they have my full attention and get the most out of their walkies. If a half hour or hour's walk would interest you for your canine chum, then please don't hesitate to get in touch. Whilst you are away from home it would be an absolute honour for me to take care of your furry (or not so furry) friends in the comfort of their own home, which of course minimises stress and anxiety levels for so many animals. As a cat owner myself, I am only too aware that cats are particularly sensitive to changes in their environment, therefore being able to stay in their own home, with their own home comforts and familiar surroundings and scents certainly helps to reduce stress and anxiety levels whilst you are away; also providing you with that all important peace of mind that your cat is happy, content, relaxed and well cared for at home. If any of my services interests you, then please do not hesitate to send me a direct message, email me on [email protected] or call me for a no obligation chat about your needs, and more importantly the needs of your pet(s). I love to meet both you and your pet(s) ahead of our scheduled sit to both alleviate any concerns and familiarise your pet with its new best two-legged friend!

🐈‍⬛ Any Black Cat Lovers Out There? 🐈‍⬛

Darker nights, wetter days and a fair bit of Strathaven wind… Halloween must be coming!

But let's be honest, black cats have Halloween covered all year round! They don't need costumes to scare the living daylights out of you, they simply stroll silently through a dark hallway, appear out of nowhere, and give you that “you didn't see me coming, did you?” look.

🎃 The original Halloween experts
Black cats have long been associated with witches and spooky stories, but there's actually nothing unlucky about them. They're loving, funny, mischievous and occasionally far too good at appearing silently behind you when you're carrying your night-time cuppa.

📸 The photography struggle
If you've ever tried taking a photo of a black cat, you'll know the struggle:

Action: 📸
Result: Either two glowing eyes floating mysteriously in the darkness, OR a black blob.

Yep… they really are the perfect Halloween pet!

👻 A little Halloween reminder for cat owners
On a more serious note, although Halloween can be great fun for us, it can be rather unsettling for cats (lots of visitors, noise, strange costumes, doorbells and frequently opened/closed doors).

Therefore, if your cat isn't a fan of the festivities, please give them a quiet, cosy place to retreat to, and if they have outdoor access, please ensure they are safely indoors during the guising hours.

Also keep an eye on those pumpkins, decorations and treats - because if it's new, interesting and within paw's reach, your cat WILL investigate it (usually at 3am if they’re anything like mine)!

🖤 No bad luck here
So, this Halloween, let's leave the old superstitions behind. Black cats aren't unlucky. They're just exceptionally good at looking mysterious, and absolutely love making their human work hard to get a decent photo of them.

And remember…
If you see glowing eyes in your garden on a dark October evening, please don't panic. It’s probably your neighbour's cat judging you 😹

Happy Halloween when it comes, from Strathaven's fabulous feline residents! 🐈‍⬛ 🎃

This wee girl really is such a sweetie. Full of cuddles, licks and followed me about like a wee dog. Missing her already.

Some cat facts you may or may not already know (a bit of fun!):

🐈 Cats have a righting reflex that helps them land on their feet.
Very impressive, although it doesn’t mean they’re ready for Britain’s Got Talent: Wardrobe Edition. Definitely don’t try this at home folks!

≽^•⩊•^≼ Whiskers help cats to measure spaces.
Measurements they then promptly ignore when trying to squeeze through a gap clearly designed for a hamster! Why? It’s fun Mum!

💪🏼 Cats can rotate each ear between 90 and 120 degrees. They hear you opening treats from three rooms away, but somehow become completely deaf when you say right beside them, “Get off that worktop!”.

💤 Cats spend up to two-thirds of their lives asleep. Lazy? Never! They’re elite athletes competing in the demanding disciplines of napping, dramatic stretching, changing sleeping positions, and waking up precisely three seconds before dinner.

💪🏼 Cats have tiny collarbones buried in their shoulder muscles rather than attached to their other bones.
Explaining why they squeeze themselves into boxes that appear to break the laws of physics, furniture design and common sense.

🐱 Adult cats usually meow at humans more than at other adult cats. They’ve created a special language for requesting dinner, demanding dinner, complaining about dinner and announcing that dinner was served in the wrong bowl.

🍰 Cats can’t taste sweetness because they lack a functional sweet-taste receptor gene, Tas1r2.
So, your birthday cake is, to them, just a disappointing sponge wearing suspicious icing.

👁 Cats have a third eyelid, called the nictitating membrane, which helps protect and moisten their eyes.
It also gives them the occasional look of a tiny, judgmental alien sent to audit our life choices

Some autumn hazards for cats ⚠️🚨📢:

🚗 Antifreeze
Antifreeze can leak onto driveways/roads/pavements, and contains ethylene glycol, which is highly toxic to cats - even in small amounts!. It can cause rapid kidney failure or even death, therefore please take your cat to a vet immediately if you suspect any contact with this substance which is also found in windscreen washer fluid and hydraulic brake fluid.

🌿 Poisonous autumn plants
Autumn gardens, household floral bouquets, fallen leaves and woodland areas may contain harmful plants or fungi. Lilies are especially dangerous to cats, including their pollen and even the water from their vase. Other potentially harmful plants include autumn crocus, yew, ivy and chrysanthemums.

⏾🚘 Shorter daylight hours and roads
Shorter days mean cats are more likely to be outside around dusk and after dark, when visibility is poorer. Poor visibility unfortunately increases road-traffic accident risk.

🥶❄️ Cold and wet weather
Cats may seek warmth in sheds, garages, or commonly under car bonnets. These cold and wet conditions can increase the risk of hypothermia, particularly in vulnerable cats.

🎆🎇 Fireworks
Loud bangs can frighten both cats and dogs, causing them to panic, hide, escape or run onto roads. Please keep your pet indoors and safe during fireworks.
