How has it already been two weeks?! 🐾

Pebbles has changed so much over the last week and her little personality is becoming more obvious every day.

We’re still sticking to a good routine, especially when it comes to sleep. Regular naps make a huge difference. We can definitely tell when she’s tired because that’s usually when the tiny velociraptor makes an appearance! 🦖😂

This week has been all about gentle socialisation and confidence building.

✨ Some of Pebbles’ adventures this week:

🐾 Visiting the vets just to sit, watch and get weighed.

🐾 Watching the world go by near the river and around town from the safety of my arms.

🐾 Being carried around B&Q and Mountain Warehouse, followed by a visit to Costa where she got plenty of fuss from the lovely staff.

🐾 Exploring a garden centre and dog shop

🐾 Popping into the groomers for a positive visit and plenty of treats.

🐾 Watching the bin lorry and dustbin crew from a safe distance while being rewarded for staying calm.

🐾 Confidence-building activities including different surfaces, small steps, tunnels, posts and obstacles.

🐾 Shredding Amazon packaging (under supervision!) which turned out to be one of her favourite enrichment activities of the week.

🐾 Spending more time playing with our older dog, which has been lovely to see.

Eat. Sleep. Train. Repeat. 🎵🐾

Puppies might look like they’re living their best life (and they are!), but routine is one of the most important things you can give them.

Regular sleep, mealtimes, training, play and rest help puppies feel safe and predictable in a world that’s still very new to them. A well-rested puppy is often better able to learn, cope with new experiences and make good choices too.

Pebbles is currently taking her puppy responsibilities very seriously: eating, sleeping, causing a little bit of chaos, and repeating the process all over again. 😆

🐾 Puppy Classes Starting in 3 Weeks 🐾

My next puppy courses starts in just three weeks, and whilst there is currently one space remaining, I expect it to fill quickly.

If you’re thinking about joining a puppy class, please get in touch now. Even if the current classes becomes full, I’d be happy to add another class if there is enough interest.

You can send me a message on Facebook or Instagram, text me, email me, or enquire via my website. The sooner I know there’s interest, the sooner I can schedule an additional class.

Over six weeks, we’ll cover all the essential skills to help your puppy grow into a confident, well-mannered dog, including:

🐶 Recall
🐶 Loose lead walking
🐶 Focus and engagement around distractions
🐶 Calm behaviour around people and dogs
🐶 Settling and relaxation
🐶 Good manners around food, doors and everyday situations
🐶 Handling and cooperative care for grooming and vet visits

You’ll also receive plenty of practical advice on common puppy challenges, including:

✔ Toilet training
✔ Sleeping routines
✔ Puppy biting and chewing
✔ Socialisation and confidence building
✔ Preventing unwanted behaviours before they become habits

All training is taught using modern, science-based positive reinforcement methods, helping you build a strong relationship with your puppy whilst teaching skills that are useful in everyday life.

One week with Pebbles 🐾

People often think puppy socialisation means meeting lots of dogs, but for us it’s about helping her experience the world in a calm, positive way.

In her first week home we’ve focused on:

🐾 Settling happily in her crate and spending short periods alone

🐾 Watching traffic from a safe distance while being carried

🐾 Listening to sounds such as fireworks and thunderstorms at a comfortable volume

🐾 Experiencing the car through lots of short, easy sessions

🐾 Visiting the vets for a positive experience (including standing on the scales!)

🐾 A quick trip to the pet shop to take in all the new sights and smells

🐾 Spending time at my training studio, exploring and learning that it’s a pretty relaxing place to be

🐾 Trying a few new foods, including carrot and apple

🐾 Beginning some simple training through the day in short, puppy-friendly sessions

🐾 Starting cooperative care, including checking ears, eyes and paws, and introducing a chin rest

Most importantly, we’ve made sure she’s getting plenty of sleep and downtime between all these new experiences.

She’s had a few land shark moments along the way 🦈 but overall she’s settled in brilliantly, and we’re really pleased with how she’s settling in.

Looking forward to seeing what the next few weeks bring 🧡

A little apple taste test for Pebbles today 🍎

As well as feeding a balanced puppy diet, I am gradually introducing a variety of safe foods in small amounts to help build dietary diversity and support a healthy gut microbiome.

The apple was thoroughly investigated, carefully crunched and ultimately deemed more suitable as a toy than a snack! 🐶

Introducing Pickles, this gorgeous little Shih Tzu, has only recently started his training journey with me ❤️

After being rescued from a severe neglect case involving over 120 dogs, his new owners have given him the time, patience and understanding he needed to settle into his new life. Now that trust and that bond have grown, we’re starting to work on some of the everyday training skills that will help him confidently enjoy more adventures with his family.

He is an absolute sweetheart and it’s so lovely to see him getting the chance to experience the world safely, kindly and at his own pace 🐾
