Born on 1st June 1946, Richard Rhys Evans rode his first winner on Marchairy on 16th October 1965 at Towcester. The horse had been bought out of a Stratford seller for 280 guineas and was trained by Richard's father, Glynn. Richard has ridden the Grand National a total of seven times in his career, finishing 4th in 1977, 5th in 1978 and 4th again in 1979. He was a steward at Cheltenham and was ins

trumental in the decision to move the final hurdle closer to the winning line, an attempt to reduce jockey whip bans. Richard now owns the thriving 50-acre Oxstalls Farm Stud, a mile from Stratford-upon-Avon.
