Double the chaos but double the fun tonight at The Rural Vet Clinic 🐶🐶🥳🥳
We are delighted that our monthly puppy parties have been increasingly popular, so tonight we had 2!!!! We split the group to allow the pups to gain confidence with dogs similar in size to themselves, we think it was hit and we hope everyone who came along did too! 😊

🐴🥳 Something exciting has arrived 🥳🐴

We've got some new kit and we think our equine patients will approve!

Our endoscope allows us to perform detailed examinations of the airway, while our dental equipment supports us in providing high quality dental care. 🦷

Here's a little snapshot of Alisdair using our new toys on Rodger.

If you are interested in either of these services then please give us a call ☎️

🐑 It’s that time of year where you need to make sure your tups are in tip- top shape and ready for tupping 🐑

With bluetongue virus circulating in the area it’s even more important this year to ensure it hasn’t had an impact on your tup’s fertility.

We are offering tup fertility testing to give you peace of mind before they need to do their job. This involves a full clinical examination, collection of semen sample and analysis of s***m count and viability under the microscope.

Tups can be brought into the surgery or we can come out to farm.

🚨 BLUETONGUE: NEW CONTROL ZONE INTRODUCED IN DUMFRIES & GALLOWAY

The Scottish Government has today (20th August) announced a Temporary Bluetongue Control Zone in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

As there is no treatment for the virus, prevention through vaccination and restricted movements in affected areas remains the best defence. If you are not already on a waiting list for vaccination please contact us for an update on the vaccine situation.

The key points for livestock keepers are:

🔴 A Temporary Control Zone is now in place around the affected area while investigations continue.

🚫 Movement of susceptible livestock into, out of or within the Temporary Control Zone is restricted and may require a licence. This includes cattle, sheep, goats and other susceptible animals.

There are a number of detailed rules covering animal movements, licences, testing and vaccination, so livestock keepers should check the official guidance before moving animals.

The key facts above are based on the Scottish Government announcement published 20 August 2026 and the UK Government’s situation update, also updated today.
