🎆 FIREWORK SEASON IS HERE — LET’S BE PREPARED & KEEP OUR PETS SAFE! 🐾

While fireworks can be nice for us, the loud bangs and bright flashes can be frightening for our four-legged friends 💛

🐶 For dogs: Walk before dark, create a cosy safe space and keep them secure on walks and at home.

🐱 For cats: Keep them indoors after dark, close the cat flap and provide plenty of safe hiding places.

🏡 For both: Close windows and curtains, put the TV or radio on, and stay calm. If your pet wants reassurance, comfort them — and never punish them for being scared.

💛 Worried about your pet’s fear of fireworks? Don’t wait until Bonfire Night! Speak to our team at Fab Vets in advance. We can discuss ways to help your pet feel more comfortable, including whether veterinary treatment may be appropriate.

September is Pet Pain Awareness Month 💛

Our pets are experts at hiding pain, and sometimes the signs can be surprisingly subtle.

🐾 Less active or interested
🐾 Changes in grooming
🐾 Stiffness or changes in mobility
🐾 Changes in behaviour
🐾 Changes in appetite or drinking

And remember — “they’re just getting old” isn’t always the answer.
Changes in behaviour, movement or routine can be your pet’s way of telling you something isn’t right.

💛 SU***DE PREVENTION MONTH | A LITTLE KINDNESS GOES A LONG WAY 💛

September is Su***de Prevention Month, and this is something we feel is important to talk about within our veterinary community.

When you bring your beloved pet to see us, you see the person in scrubs, behind the reception desk or on the end of the telephone. But behind that role is a person too. ❤️

Veterinary teams work in an incredibly rewarding profession, but it can also be emotionally and mentally demanding.

We care deeply about your pets — so deeply that we carry their stories home with us.

We experience the highs of seeing a poorly pet recover, the worry of waiting for test results, the pressure of making difficult decisions, the heartbreak of saying goodbye, and the sadness of losing a patient we have known and cared for for years.

Alongside this, our teams are managing busy days, emergencies, demanding workloads, financial pressures, difficult conversations and the expectations of wanting to provide the very best care for every single patient.

And sometimes, it can be a lot.

So this Su***de Prevention Month, we’re asking our clients for something very simple:

💛 Please be kind to your veterinary team.

If you’ve had a difficult conversation with us, remember that we may have had several difficult conversations already that day.

If we can’t give you the answer you were hoping for, please remember that we’re trying our hardest to do what is safest and best for your pet.

If you’re frustrated, please take a breath before directing that frustration at the person in front of you.

And if you see a member of our team having a difficult day, a simple “thank you”, a smile or a little patience can mean more than you realise.

We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re simply asking for the same compassion that we try to show every day to you and your animals. 🐾

Because behind every veterinary professional is a human being who cares.

Let’s look after the people who spend their days looking after the animals we love. 💛

Be kind. Check in. Listen. You never know what someone might be carrying. 💛
