✈️🐟Madre de Dios Diaries Day 6🐟✈️

"Our last collecting day in the Cloud Forest. We fished in three locations and found some amazing fish including the elusive Maclures Cory -- Osteogaster Maclurei and Crenichla (Wallaceia) boliviense. Tomorrow we will be travelling back to the Puerto Maldonado for the final few days of the trip.

Species list for day 6:
Cory weitzmani, Cory maclurei (aka teniente), Astroblepus sp, Ancistrus Greeni, Chaetosoma sp, Geophagus brasiliensis, Rhinocloricaria sp & various Tetras we have yet to identify."

✈️🐟Madre de Dios diaries Day 4 & 5🐟✈️

"Day 4 of the expedition we travelled across the Amazon plain and up towards the Cloudy Forest to a place called Quince Mil. On the way we stopped to watch a family of Capybara in pools by the road. The mountain roads are quite steep with sharp bends and the journey was delayed twice by overturned lorries. We will be back fishing tomorrow."

"Day 5 we went high into the mountains to a village called Marcapata where they were having the annual celebration of San Colorite. Lots of colourful outfits with dancing, food and a market. No tourists there, we were welcomed with many smiles. We ate lunch of alpaca and left to go fishing at Cardena on the road to Cusco."

✈️🐟Madre de Dios diaries Day 3🐟✈️ (We're late uploading, a few more posts today to catch up!)

"Day 3: Today we went to just one location called Vallencia Lake. We were looking for piranha, about 60km along a dirt road to reach the beautiful Oxbow Lake. It was hot but fishing went well and we got Yellow Piranha (rhombeus) and Red Piranha (nattereri). Lunch was a Tiger Shovelnose eaten in the company of Green & Yellow-Fronted Amazon parrots who were very tame and vocal, and a Blue & Gold Macaw also joined from a tree nearby. Tomorrow we're going up to the mountains towards Cusco."

✈️🐟Madre de Dios diaries Day 2:🐟✈️

"Great day of fishing the jungle of deepest, darkest Peru. Video included of Ian explaining what we're trying to achieve at the first location at the beginning of the day. Day 2 we collected: Glass Hatchet, Quii Killifish, Moema Rubrocaudatus, Spotted Splash Tetra (Pyhrulina vittata), Red Wolffish (Hoplierythrinus), Apistogramma luelingi, various knife fish including Sierra Knife, Black Eel, Hoplos (megalechis thoracatum), Two-line Cory (Gastrodermus bilineatus), Banjo Cat & Whiptails"

Bonus stunning local wildlife spotted by Ian & Steve including a Tayra which crossed the track in front of them!

🐟✈️Madre de Dios diaries Pt. 1✈️ 🐟
Mr. Ian Fuller has arrived safely in Peru's Madre de Dios region and begun hunting down some beautiful fish, which after import and careful quarantining are hopefully destined for our shop floor!!

Good friend to both Ian and the business Steve has been keeping a diary with Ian and shooting video and snapping pictures for us, Steve's Day 1 below:

"Well it's finally day 1 of the expedition to the Madre de Dios in Southern Peru, a collaboration between Prestwood Petzone, Corydorasworld.com and GoWildPeru. We will together be part of an ongoing investigation of habitats, abundance and distribution of species and selecting fish for shipping to the aquariums at Prestwood Petzone."
