Two years old today. TWO.

Twix. Twixibelle. The dog who knows every rule, follows every rule — right up until the excitement becomes too much and then absolutely none of the rules exist anymore.

She is gentle and she is feisty. She is quick and she is clever. She is kind to her bones and enthusiastic about absolutely everything. Part cocker spaniel, part mountain goat, entirely unhinged when happy.

And honestly? I wouldn’t have her any other way.

Happy birthday baby girl. 🐾🩷🐾 Celebrating 2 years of you

Classes this week!

Gundog class finally went ahead after the weather had other ideas for a few weeks — and we stepped things up with emergency stop and directional cues, built around lots of calm work, place training and memory retrieves. Good to be back out there.

Puppy Foundation had their practice week this week. We worked on loose lead and a few other behaviours, and had a chat about their assessment next week. This group have come so far!

Our newest puppy class are getting stuck in. This week was all about loose lead walking — what it actually means, good lead handling, and the importance of bringing arousal levels down before you even step out the door. Really important foundations.

And the adolescent class — what a fab group they are. This week we worked on calm introductions, starting indoors and then taking it outside into a more real life situation. Stopping for a conversation, dogs greeting politely. Exactly the kind of stuff that makes everyday life easier.

Our next Puppy Foundation class starts 11th July — spaces are limited so head to https://www.thepaw-sitiveexperience.co.uk/puppy-class to book! If you’re interested in the adolescent or gundog class, drop me a message to register your interest.

A great week of 1:1s this week!

Rambo is working so hard and it’s really paying off. He’s been much better around people and this week we focused on dogs at a distance — working within his comfort zone and building his confidence gradually. He’s doing brilliantly.

Kali had a trip to Sainsbury’s for some real-world practice this week and then went and absolutely smashed her public access test. This girl is incredible. She and her family have worked so hard to get here and it really shows. She’ll soon be a fully qualified assistance dog — and honestly, she deserves every bit of it.

Clover had a great last session working on calm settling at home. It worked so well that she took herself off to the sofa and fell asleep — something her family say rarely happens! That’s the goal right there.

And Pepper had had a big day so we kept things calm and worked on polite greetings with visitors and staying in her bed when the door goes. Tired dogs are actually great to work with sometimes!

I did manage some photos this week — though we went for the pose rather than the action shot 😄

We ended the week as usual at Highgate Common and Friars Gorse.

The walk at Friars was cut a little short after little Daisy had a fit.

She’s had a few in the past, so her family were aware — but it was a first for me out on a walk with her. She was absolutely fine by the time I carried her back to the van, but it did last for 8 minutes and her owner took her to the vets shortly after to get her checked over. 🐾

A huge thank you to Rachel (Woody’s person and a vet nurse!) for picking up the phone and talking me through it — I’ve done my canine first aid and knew what to do, but having a calm, knowledgeable voice on the end of the line made all the difference in that moment.

It’s a good reminder of why first aid training matters — and it’s not just for professionals. Canine first aid courses are inexpensive, cover everything from cuts and burns to cardiac arrests, and give you real peace of mind as a dog owner. We always hope we’ll never need to use that knowledge, but it’s so much better to have it than not.

Daisy, we hope you’re feeling better lovely girl. 🩷
