*Veterinary Nurse Position*

Breadstone Veterinary Practice and Stonehouse Veterinary Practice are independent small animal practices located in South Gloucestershire, with great reputations in the local community. Breadstone Vets opened in July 2025, following the success of Stonehouse Vets which opened in January 2022. Both practices are rapidly growing, and we are looking for a new member of staff to play an integral role in our team.

We aim to provide the best possible care to our patients, using recent medicine and look after each pet as if they were our own. We also pride ourselves on excellent client communication and care.

We are looking for a hard-working, kind, caring, compassionate, and dedicated qualified veterinary nurse to join our team. We are also looking for somebody who would be interested in being a clinical coach for a student veterinary nurse.

Facilities include Idexx haematology and biochemistry machines, digital DR x-ray, dental CR x-ray, ultrasound, ECG, multiparameters, tonometry, infusions pumps, patient warmers, and well-equipped surgical kits for both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries.

Opening hours are 8.30am-7pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8.30am-3pm. No OOH. We are looking for somebody who can work full-time and participate on a 1 in 4 Saturday rota. Salary commensurate with experience.

To apply, please contact Maria (practice manager) and Dan (director) via email at [email protected]

It’s the end of Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month.
It’s important for you all to know, that being a Vet Nurse does not mean that you ‘get to cuddle puppies and kittens all day’ - a phrase we hear often.
I mean. We do, obviously, at any opportunity! But you are more likely to find us monitoring anaesthetics, taking blood samples, putting pets on a drip, mopping the floor, running lab samples, prepping for surgery, answering the phone, running clinics, emptying the clinical waste bins, sterilising surgical kits, changing dressings, assisting with X-rays, cleaning teeth, picking up poo/vomit/pee, dispensing medication, giving advice, injecting medication, comforting and supporting a client when their pet is end of life, painting the walls… oh this list is ENDLESS!!
All we know is this - our fabulous Vets could not do the wonderful work they do, without our incredible Nurses.
Thank you, to all the Veterinary Nurses out there - we see you, we hear you, we appreciate you and we LOVE you! 💕🐾

Give a great big CONGRATULATIONS to lovely Abi! She is now a fully fledged RVN after passing her final exams. We have to make do with a photo of her new badge and her little crew from home. Well done Abi, this was really well deserved. We already know what a superb Vet Nurse you are 😁 This is what she says;
“I came to veterinary nursing after working at a wildlife hospital for over a decade. While I love my work with cat and dogs I still have a keen interest in our more unusual furry (or feathered) friends. I have had a variety of pets over the years from dogs and cats to snakes and a parrot. I currently have 2 dogs - Jingle & Ernie, a parrot called Toby and 2 tanks of tropical and marine fish.
In my spare time I enjoy taking part in agility with Jingle and singing in my local pop choir.”

💉🩺 Book the Booster! 💉🩺
When we send a reminder for your dog (or cats) vaccination - book them in!
This is Dodger, an absolutely gorgeous 10yr old JR terrier (I’m biased - he’s mine 🥰)
Now I’ve been a Vet Nurse & Receptionist for over 30yrs (🫣👵🏻) and when I booked Dodger in for his vaccinations, I did not foresee this. Dodger shows no clinical symptoms, no exercise intolerance- he’s his normal (crazy) self.
But - a booster appointment is when the Vet gives a full health check, once a year.
Joe the Vet gave Dodger his nose to tail check - and then broke the news that Dodger has a heart murmur. Significant enough to warrant an Echocardiogram (an ultrasound of the heart).
Thank goodness we went for his booster- Dodger is now on medication for a heart condition that is common in small dogs as they get older - Mitral Valve Disease. Early detection is key.
So - when that reminder comes - book the appointment! An annual check of your cat & dog is crucial for the Vet to pick up issues that we as owners cannot always see.
Thanks to Joe, Abi & Carrie for looking after him - Dodger is being a good boy and taking the medication 🥰
