We've had a beautiful young cat in this morning that we're sure somebody is missing. Returned to the top end of Walton, Stone. Young light coloured tabby (tabby coloured but no stripes on body) with white on paws and face. No microchip unfortunately. Please call the practice if this sounds like your cat and we will endeavour to reunite you.

Congratulations to Geraint and Christine who celebrated 20 years of working for Shires this week.

Geraint started with us a mixed animal vet and then made the move to small animal and hasn't looked back, he has a wealth of knowledge and has extra qualifications in surgery and opthalmology and is a firm favourite with our clients.

Christine started at our Stone surgery where she completed her veterinary nurse training. She has been deputy and head nurse at Stone then made the move to Eaton Park after having children.

We are extremely lucky to have them both as part of the team.
Here's to the next 20 years.....

🚨 LOCAL DOG WARNING: Blue-Green Algae on Cannock Chase 🚨

Hi everyone, the Shires Vets team here! 🐾 We want to urge all our local pet parents to be extra careful when walking your dogs around Cannock Chase and local Staffordshire waterways.

Toxic blue-green algae has been reported in the area. This bacteria is highly poisonous to dogs and can be fatal in under an hour.

🎨 How to Spot It:

"Pea Soup" Water: Thick green water or spilled green/blue paint appearance.

Surface Scum: Powdery, wispy, or crusty layers floating on the water.

Foam & Odor: Greenish foam at the water's edge and a strong, musty, swampy smell.

❌ Rule of thumb: If in doubt, keep them out! Bring clean bottled water for them to drink instead.

⚠️ Poisoning Symptoms:
Dogs can get sick from swimming, drinking, or simply licking their paws or fur after a walk.

Look out for:
Severe vomiting & diarrhea
Excessive drooling
Muscle twitching, weakness, or collapse
Breathing difficulties or seizures

πŸ₯ What to Do in an Emergency:
If you suspect contact, do not wait for symptoms to show. Prevent them from licking their paws, rinse them with clean tap water if possible, and contact us immediately.
