🐾 A Little Something New... 🐾

Over the past 3 years we've built an amazing community here at So Very Dog, and having over 8,000 followers is something I'm genuinely grateful for. 💜

This page will always be the home of So Very Dog, with shop updates, customer photos, community news, dog stories and all the things you've come to expect from us. Nothing will change here 🥰

However, I've created a new group called Friends of So Very Dog for those of you who shop with us in-store or online and would like to be a little more involved.

The reason for creating the group is that I don't always feel this page is the right place for lots of product posts, promotions, special offers and insider information. I know not everybody follows the page for that, and I want to keep this page balanced and enjoyable for everyone.

Inside the group you'll find:

🐾 Competitions and giveaways
🐾 Product recommendations and discussions
🐾 Website updates and special online offers
🐾 Early news about what's happening at So Very Dog
🐾 A chance to get to know other dog owners

Most importantly, I'm hoping it becomes a friendly community where dog owners can help each other with real-life experiences, recommendations, tips and advice. As much as I love sharing my own thoughts, some of the best advice comes from people who are living the same dog-owning joys every day.

I'll also be sharing more about what's happening behind the scenes.

The website has had some massive improvements recently, with plenty more planned. In fact, there are even more exciting improvements waiting once I get the all-important email together for the techy bits to be done to the professionals... which, left to me, would probably take about three years! 😂 I’m trying I promise 🫣👀🤣

And being completely honest, part of the reason for creating the group is that with over 8,000 followers on this page, I sometimes feel a little shy about putting too much of myself out there and product or promotional posts sink like a lead balloon. And as much as I can talk and talk and talk some more in the shop, I’m actually a bit shy online and now we have so many followers I just don’t feel it’s the place for too much chit chat 🤓

I’m building the group to feel like a more personal space where we can chat a bit more openly, share ideas, ask questions and get to know the people behind the dogs.

Time is in short supply at the moment while I'm largely running the shop floor single-handedly, the group may take a little time to grow. However, my aim is to build a happy, interactive and safe space where people feel comfortable chatting, sharing experiences, asking questions and celebrating the dogs that bring us all together. Posting is restricted currently while I get to grips with it all and find more time to get in it 🐾

I've never been interested in chasing numbers. Followers are great but not a reflection on how good or bad a business is doing. Organic growth has always been what I believe in. This group is about having a smaller group of engaged dog owners than thousands of people who rarely interact. Because of that, I'd kindly ask that this isn't a group where everyone invites all their mates. We'd really like it to remain a community for people who already visit the shop, shop online, follow So Very Dog or regularly interact with us.

I'd also like to make it clear that this isn't intended to be a place for promoting or advertising your own business. There are plenty of groups for that. This group is about dogs, dog owners, the So Very Dog community and the conversations, recommendations and friendships that grow from it. 💜

While setting the group up, Facebook decided to help by sending invitations to a rather random selection of people and pages! 😂 You may notice a few pages have appeared in the member list as a result. I've now changed the settings so only personal profiles can join going forwards. As pages can have multiple admins, I want this to be a safe space where members can feel confident about who is in the group and who can see posts and comments.

👋 Good morning everyone! 🐾🌧️

Well, Friday was certainly a quiet one! I think the combination of day one of half term and two storms battering us kept lots of people tucked up indoors. ☔😂

That said, I still had some absolutely lovely visitors and some of the best chats with their humans. Honestly, that's one of the things I love most about the shop. ❤️

Yesterday's gang were:

Billy was looking as handsome as ever, Norman was once again nailing the Halloween fashion scene 🎃, Frank was serving his usual dachshund model poses, and Aeko was rocking that red bandana beautifully. ❤️

It was also lovely to see Minnie and Alfie, and Esther was more than happy to help out with some photos between half-term activities! 📸🤪

The weather might be doing its best to keep everyone away, but if you're venturing out today, I'd love to see you and your pups.

👋 Good morning everyone! ☔🐾

Well, it's a wet one out there today, so don't forget your brolly if you're heading into town! 🌧️☂️

The rain didn't stop yesterday's lovely visitors though, and I had some gorgeous faces pop in for their photos:

Bowser was clearly determined to show off his tongue skills for the camera 😂 Milo was looking as adorable as ever and little Naked Dede might just have stolen the show with all that fabulous fluff! She also modeled one of the new haeneses ❤️

It's also Day 1 of half term which means Esther is in the shop today to help greet your pups... if she can manage to drag herself away from Roblox for five minutes! 🤪🎮👀

Well, the rain certainly made itself known yesterday, but that didn't stop plenty of lovely dogs from popping in to see me! ❤️

Bear looked as majestic as ever, Frank was working those dachshund poses, and Norman definitely understood the Halloween dress code better than most of us and also enjoyed his first testical on the photo wall 🎃😂

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and brought their dogs in. Days like these are always brighter when they're filled with wagging tails. 🐾

Mooky was looking as gorgeous as ever, Demi had perfected the serious camera stare, Bonnie was rocking her cosy jumper, Biscuit gave me a fantastic tongue-out pose, Chico looked very pleased with himself in front of the Halloween backdrop and jack just being the legend he is 🎃📸

Thank you to everyone who popped in on Monday and let me take a photo of your dogs. Sharing all of your wonderful four-legged friends is one of my favourite parts of the job. ❤️

After yesterday's closed day, I'm back open and looking forward to seeing who visits today!

Exciting things are landing at So Very Dog! 🎉

After lots of thought, plenty of research, and more than a few discussions, we have decided to bring BaileyandCoco into the shop! 🐾

When we are choosing products for your dogs, they have to tick a lot of boxes. I wanted something that was not only practical and hard-wearing for everyday adventures, but also looked absolutely gorgeous too. Bailey & Coco do exactly that. 🤍

Their products combine style, quality, and functionality beautifully, and I honestly think you're going to love them as much as I do.

I can't wait for this to arrive 😍 we have gone with the 4 designs pictured for starters and hopefully be expanding the choices very soon 🐶💛

👋 Good morning everyone! ☔🐾

What an absolutely miserable day it is out there!

This rain is something else! 

Last night wasn't fun. Rubes managed to get herself stung by a bee on her paw. 🐝🐾

Not going to lie, it was a bit traumatic at the time! 🫣 There was hopping, paw licking, lots of checking and plenty of worrying from us, but thankfully she was back to her normal self quite quickly.

After speaking to our insurance, we were sent some great info, and we thought it might be helpful to share some of the key advice in case it ever happens to your fur baby.

 

🐝 If you can see a bee stinger, don't squeeze or pinch it as this can release more venom. Instead, gently scrape it away with something like a bank card or spoon.

🧊 Apply a cool compress or wrapped ice pack for a few minutes to help with swelling and discomfort. 

👀 Keep an eye out for excessive swelling, breathing difficulties, vomiting, diarrhoea, unusual tiredness or collapse, as these can indicate a more serious reaction.

☎️ Seek veterinary advice immediately if swelling becomes severe, particularly around the face or throat, or if your dog shows signs of an allergic reaction. 

Thankfully Rubes was absolutely fine, but it certainly gave us a scare and reminded us how quickly these things can happen.

Just a reminder that I'm closed today (Tuesday) while I get on with all the behind-the-scenes jobs that keep So Very Dog running smoothly. 📝📦

I'd also like to say thank you for all the lovely comments on yesterday's Facebook post about breast cancer and mental health awareness. 🩷💚 The support and kndness in the comments were genuinely lovely to read. I'll be catching up and replying properly a little later today. 🥰

For now, it's a brand new week, the sun is shining, and we're ready for another week of waggy tails and dog cuddles!
