Well, we were super excited to share that we are hosting gundog specialist and co-founder Clare of Bound Ahead Dogs for a whole day of Scurry Dog workshops in November, but our awesome Clients Club members sold it out in under 24 hours! 😱

Scurry Dog is a growing dog sport of five fun gundog games for active pets. Retrievers, spaniels and HPRs are sure to love it, but it's open and suitable for all breeds. You know that at CDT we are always looking to offer new sports and to have fantastic trainers from around the UK join us, and we're so happy to finally be running something for our gundog owners! If you'd like us to host Clare again in future, pop a comment below and we'll make sure you're first on the list for any future workshops!

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Sharing our lives with our dogs is an incredible privilege. Sometimes, just knowing you’re coming home to your dog can be the thing that gets you through the day. Here’s to the dogs that keep us going, whether it’s with a slobbery kiss, the smell of their paws, or through simply giving us a reason to get out of bed.

However, having a dog, especially those with behavioural challenges, can also be really bloody hard and exhausting. This is our reminder to you that it’s totally okay to admit that!

If you’re going through it with your dog it can be a big weight to carry. We know - we’ve been there. But it’s super important to remember that you are doing the best you can, to try not to compare yourself to others, and especially to not compare yourself to the highlight reel of social media. Give yourself grace - it’s ok to wish things were different, it’s ok to struggle, and it’s totally ok to reach out for help.

Our brains are funny, fickle things 🧠 and dealing with being a human bean can be one helluva ride. So, make sure to check on those you love today. Be kind to yourself and others. And remember: you matter, you are loved, and we’re so glad you’re here with us. 🤍

Popping in to say we’re still here, but just so busy that social media is inevitably taking a backseat because we are both rubbish with it 😆

We’re certainly enjoying the cooler temperatures (well most of us, Ophelia isn’t!) but with the dark nights drawing in we’re starting to think about running more group walks and sport workshops in the weekdays.. comment if you’d be keen for this and we’ll see what we can do!

We’ve got some exciting plans in the works that we can’t wait to share with you soon, and of course all our usual sports and activities will continue running as usual over winter.

We thought we’d share this little video from a lovely social walk we had recently.. a bunch of ex-reactive and over-friendly dogs just chilling together, being social and having a good time. Exactly what our social walks are there for you to work towards. 🫶

And of course remember summer dogs are built in winter, so it’s a great time to get in touch and start your 1:1 journey. If your dog is reactive or needs some social up-skilling, let’s chat 💪

A week later and we’ve just about recovered from a fantastic weekend at The Big Bark in Uttoxeter! 😮‍💨

We were absolutely rammed the whole weekend, with so many awesome dogs and owners coming over to have a go at lure coursing, Barn Hunt and GRC weight pull. We spoke to so many people and inevitably got barely any photos 😆 You can see from the second photo the size of some of the queues - we were super grateful for everyone’s enthusiasm and also patience!

Huge thanks to The Big Bark for inviting us to participate. An absolutely massive thank you also to our fantastic helpers Eren and Sophie, who did incredible running Barn Hunt and chatting to clients - it makes us glad the dog industry is in good hands with up-and-coming trainers/handlers like you two 💪

Ophelia also enjoyed getting to pose next to her fancy photo from Adventure Pawtraits 😍

Life with your dog should be about what you can do together, not what you can't.

Our new and improved Supernova Training Program is designed to make your dogs world bigger, not smaller. Over 3 months you'll work 1:1 with me, and brave many of our awesome group walks to practice with your dog in the real world alongside the amazing members of our CDT community.

You'll have detailed session recaps that develop as you and your dog do, and 24/7 support because the most important training happens when I'm not there. Real change takes real effort and it's the time inbetween our sessions, where you get out there and put those reps in that will make all the difference and if you have questions in that moment or want to celebrate your latest little win then I'm here for that too!

I want you playing with your dog, trying new things, adventuring and building a real bond. When your training plan comes to an end I won't disappear either, you'll stay part of our community and be able to join us on all our adventures for as long as you'd like!

I only have limited availability until the end of the year to keep my caseload small, and my attention focussed on the people willing to put in the work to change their dog's life.

After an amazing Camp Constellation this year we've decided next year we're running two!

I don't know how to sell this other than to say that CampCon has been one my favourite things I've done since starting Constellation Dog Training.

We go on walks across some stunning landscapes, we learn, train and play with our dogs around like-minded people and we sit around campfires and go stargazing in the evenings.

We have a whole brochure (that Sarah is very proud of) with all the details, instead of repeating myself here comment CampCon27 and we'll send you a brochure!

What an AMAZING time we had on our Barn Hunt extravaganza last weekend!

A pre-trial prep session, TWO Trials, and an awesome Masterclass workshop later and we were shattered 😮‍💨 The days were long but the atmosphere was fantastic and the dogs absolutely smashed it.

Achievements Included:
🏅 4 RATI Instinct Titles
🎗️ An amazing 17 RATN Novice Qualifying Scores!
🏅 4 RATN Novice Titles (including our very own Ophelia!)
🎗️ 3 RATO Open Qualifying Scores
🎗️ and congrats to Jason with Buster for achieving not 1, but 2 RATS Senior Qualifying Scores, the first at this level at CDT!

We also held our first Crazy 8’s Classes, with Jacqueline from BHUK providing some awesome medals! I think we found many dog’s callings with this class and we may have added it to our next Trials in November and December 👀

Congratulations to Lyra and Jack (who also topped the C8’s scoreboard!) for winning the Trial’s ‘Rattitude’ awards, something that was introduced to award the dogs that just made us all smile with their enthusiasm. 👏

Phew! With all that, a couple of thank yous!
🐀 To Jacqueline, head of BHUK and Sharon, experienced judge and handler, for travelling the long distance up to judge and run the fantastic Masterclass workshop. We’re so grateful to be involved with such a supportive, friendly sport. Everyone, including ourselves, learnt so much from you both and we can’t wait for you to be back!

🐀 To Jenny and Lorraine from the Barnyard Pack, who run BH in Worcester, for being so helpful over the weekend with scribing, rat wrangling, gate duties and more. We’re excited to Trial with you!

🐀 To our fab work placement student Sophie for always turning up and doing whatever we ask her to, no questions asked 🤣

We’ve been so busy lately that we somehow forgot to celebrate a fairly big milestone.. Constellation Dog Training is three! 🎂

On 1st September 2023, Ryan took the plunge and opened CDT, and what a complete whirlwind the last three years have been.

It definitely hasn’t always been easy. We’ve had serious conversations about whether the business was actually going to make it. We’ve dealt with judgement from other trainers, people who were pretty convinced we wouldn’t last, venues disappearing at the last minute, services that didn’t work, ideas that totally flopped, and more difficult moments than we could possibly fit into one post.

Fast forward from our first ever Neutral Walk (the first photo!) to three years later, and we have our own community of brilliant people and dogs, a growing calendar of dog sports, a warehouse full of increasingly ridiculous equipment, and even Camp Constellation (second photo), which was genuinely just a massive pipe dream when all of this started.

Ryan’s continued to learn from some brilliant trainers, and that’ll always be a massive part of CDT. There’s always more to learn and always someone worth learning from. Somehow, though, we’ve now reached the point where other trainers are asking to come and learn from him, which still feels pretty crazy.

But, most importantly, we have all of you!

We wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s trained with us over the last three years, from those very first puppy class cohorts to our 1:1 clients, sports regulars, and everyone who’s trusted Ryan with their dog along the way.

Even if we don’t see you anymore, you’ve played a part in getting CDT here. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported, recommended, shared, booked, turned up and championed Ryan while he’s chased what genuinely started as just a very ambitious dream.

Right, that’s enough of the soppy stuff. Here’s to many more years of doing cool s**t with your dogs! 🤣
