🩸🐾 MEET ROO, OUR LITTLE LIFESAVER! 🐾🩸

When one of our patients needed an emergency blood transfusion, beautiful Roo stepped up and donated some of her blood to help save their life. ❤️

Roo was an absolute superstar throughout! 🐶💕 She was so brave and, of course, got ALL the treats afterwards for being such a good girl! 🥰🍖🐾 She definitely deserved every single one!

Blood donors are incredibly important in emergency veterinary medicine, and generous pets like Roo can make a huge difference when another patient needs urgent help.

🐾 Meet Denver, the guide dog with a hidden foreign body problem!🐾

Denver first presented in July with lameness affecting his right forelimb. Surgical exploration was performed at his primary care practice, followed by a second exploration in August.

Unfortunately, in September, the lameness returned in the same limb and digit, so Denver was referred to us here at Wear Referrals for further investigation.

🔎 On examination Denver had a mild right forelimb lameness at a walk, with a small sinus-like tract visible in the centre of the pad of digit 3. He was also painful on direct pressure over the pad and the underside of the digit.

📸 CT and ultrasound were carried out and revealed a larger foreign body connected to the sinus tract, alongside three smaller foreign bodies arranged in a line, with a fourth suspicious area.

🩺 The larger foreign body was removed through the sinus tract using digital pressure. An ultrasound-guided surgical approach was then used on the palmar aspect of digit 3 and the interdigital webbing, allowing removal of four small black foreign bodies.

And despite everything he’s been through, Denver remained the cutest guy throughout. 🥹🐶💙

🐾 Woody's Journey: From Emergency Referral to Recovery 🐾

When Woody became quiet, developed a bloated abdomen, and was unable to urinate, his primary care vet quickly identified stones lodged within his urethra, blocking the outflow of urine from his bladder.

Despite multiple attempts to relieve the obstruction, including surgery to repair a reported bladder rupture, the stones could not be removed and Woody was referred to Wear Referrals for specialist treatment.

Our Surgery team performed a cystotomy, successfully identifying and removing a large number of urinary stones. Post-operative X-rays confirmed no remaining stones, and Woody recovered well from his anaesthetic. 💙

Although his urination was initially abnormal and he needed assistance to empty his bladder, his function gradually improved during recovery.

We're delighted to see Woody back on the road to recovery and wish him many happy, healthy adventures ahead. 🐾✨

This World Mental Health Day, we’re taking a moment to remember that mental health matters for everyone — including the people behind every pet we care for.

We’re proud to have Mental Health First Aiders within our team, who are trained to listen, offer support and signpost people towards appropriate resources when they need a little extra help.

Looking after your mental health can start with small steps:

🦷✨ Meet beautiful Riley! ✨🦷

Riley recently visited our new dental service for a multi-root extraction on a fractured premolar. 🐶💗
Riley has a history of extended blood clotting times, so her procedure required some additional planning. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and Riley is now healing beautifully. 🥰

“The new dental service is an excellent addition. Becky performed a multi-root extraction on a fractured premolar for my Beagle last week, who has a history of extended blood clotting times and needs plasma available ‘just in case’.

🐾 A special update from Grace! 💙

Grace, a beautiful Golden Retriever, was referred to Wear Referrals with suspected inflammatory bowel disease and has previously spent time hospitalised with us.

We're delighted to see her on the road to recovery and especially honoured to share this lovely photo of Grace enjoying a very special day alongside her family at her owner's wedding. 💍🐶

Stories like Grace's remind us why we do what we do. Wishing Grace and her family many more happy memories together. ✨

We host donation sessions here at our practice, and after giving blood, every donor dog gets to pick a toy as a special thank you. As you can see, it’s always a very important decision! 🥰
