🐈🧡 Ginger Cat Appreciation Day 🧡🐈

Today we are celebrating Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, and we couldn't think of a better one to feature than Aslan !

Aslan was originally brought into our practice as a stray, and our receptionist Rachel immediately fell in love with him, and Aslan found his fur-ever home 🥰

As you can see, being re-homed doesn't mean he stopped visiting ! Sometimes, if you're lucky, you may see Aslan perched on the wall in our car park keeping a watchful eye👀🤣

How cute are these two kittens, we think we have found the most perfect use for kitchen scales !

Keeping up with the kitchen theme, how adorable is this photo of Little Bean in his banana costume ? 🍌

Regular weight checks means that we can ensure the correct dose of medication is provided, and if you're pets are as well behaved as Baby Bean and Little Missy (and small enough!), you can weigh them at home to provide us with an update 🐾

🖤🐈‍⬛ National Black Cat Appreciation Day 🐈‍⬛🖤

National Black Cat Appreciation Day was created in order to help challenge some common misconceptions about our feline friends.

Sadly, black cats, and also black and white cats, remain the least adopted and the most likely to end up in rescues 😿

Black cats are often linked to many superstitions, for example relations to witchcraft and bad luck, and some people view them as more aggressive or harder to read than other cats 🧙‍♀️

In ancient Egyptian times however, black cats were considered sacred and were strongly admired due to their resemblance of Egyptian goddess, Bastet 👑

🐈‍⬛ National Black Cat Appreciation Day 🐈‍⬛

Ahead of National Black Cat Appreciation Day on Monday, we wanted to share the story of Toothless, a black cat belonging to one of our RVNs, Nikki.

Toothless was found by Nikki as a stray kitten whilst on holiday in Crete, suffering from a nasty flea and worm infestation as well as an eye infection 🤒

With help from a local charity, Nikki got her treated, vaccinated and blood tested in the hopes to adopt her. The charity looked after Toothless whilst waiting for the green light to allow her to fly to her new home in the UK ✈️

The whole process took around three months, and Toothless is now 10 years old, living her best life, and eating Nikki's house out of Dreamies ! 🖤

Sadly, black cats are the least likely to be adopted, and the most likely to end up in rescues, however they are just as loving, affectionate and gentle as any other cat ! 🐈‍⬛

This little cutie was in this week for her flea and worm medication weight check and also a manicure 💅

Regular weight checks for kittens or puppies are a great way to get them used to coming to the vets for stress free appointments with plenty of fusses, and of course, treats !

Dusty was super well behaved and, like any cat, loved the Dreamies 😻

This adorable pooch was in this week for his second vaccination 🐶

Being up to date with vaccinations is super important in helping to keep your pet happy and healthy from infectious diseases, especially out on walks 🌳

Bullmastiffs reach 95% of their adult weight by 12 months old, and can reach up to 60kg when fully grown ! 🐶

💖 Guinea Pig Appreciation Day 💖

Today we're celebrating all things Guinea Pig !

Did you know ❓

🍿Guinea pigs engage in a behavior called 'popcorning' in which they jump and twist when really happy

🫑They cannot make their own vitamin C, meaning they require fresh fruit and veg daily to prevent illnesses such as scurvy

🌳They have been fully domesticated since around 5000 BC , meaning they do not exist in the wild

🩹 If you have guinea pigs, make sure you do routine weight checks, nail clips and teeth checks to ensure happy and healthy piggies, as they are masters at disguising when they are ill (like most pets, they will do anything to get out of a vet trip !)

🐾 Double trouble came in for their first vaccines last week ! 🐾

These two adorable kittens, who are also brothers, were very brave during their visit today, and even managed to sneak in a cuddle from our practice manager. We think they knew exactly who to charm ! 😻
