Due to cats unpredictability it’s taken me 8 days to microchip 5 cats ! It wasn’t a problem as they lived locally and were all lovely ❤️. Zeke, Amethyst, Sage, Rocky and Oreo had all been found as tiny kittens abandoned on Torkington Rd the finder (& now owner) has raised them to been fine kitties after a difficult start in life. They’ve already been neutered and as they are all now leading an outside life it was time to get them chipped. I managed to gets snaps of 4 of them before they disappeared again 😁
Drop me message if you have any questions about microchipping

Today I went to visit ‘Dug’ a much loved older boy. Dug has regular injections for his osteoarthritis alongside his medication and it’s less stressful for him to have it at home rather than a journey to the vets. Whilst there I chatted with his owners about simple changes that can be done at home that can help pets with OA some were already in place, non slippy flooring, raised feeding bowls, removing loose bedding (they can get their legs tied up in them) large flat bed and trimming hairy feet. Dug continues with regular walks that really help, although maybe shorter walks than in his younger days. He’s certainly a lovely boy ❤️❤️

We get so many baby birds brought in and enquiries at my practice as to what to do with them at this time of year. The majority of these little birds should be left where they are as their parents will be around. Rescues are inundated and full up - follow the flow chart attached as a guide 🐧🐣

These lovely ladies are Leia and Pepper and are under my care for a few days. I pop in twice a day to let them out in the morning, top up food and water, a little tidy up and then call back in the evening to tuck them in. Hens make fantastic pets, they are fairly easy to care for, very inquisitive and once they know you they are really friendly and great characters. Did you know they take themselves off to bed at dusk ? During the summer this is usually around 9pm but in the winter they can be tucked up by 6pm 😴
The British Hen Welfare Trust frequently rehome ex-commercial hens and there are local collection points (Whaley Bridge is our closest)
Not forgetting you get lovely eggs too 😋
Get in touch if I can help you out with holiday cover 🐓🐓

𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐨𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡… we are experiencing some really high temperatures this week and heatstroke in dogs is something that is a genuine emergency. 🌞 Would you recognise the signs ? Excessive panting , Restless behaviour, unable to settle, wide mouth breathing, sitting up to breath and sadly collapse in some cases.
Treatment starts with active cooling a hose pipe or constant running cold water in the first instance. Do NOT cover in wet towels as this traps in the heat 🆘Contact your vet ! 🆘Do you know where to take your dog when your own clinic is closed? Heatstroke is also seen in the evening when people are avoiding the heat of the day but temperatures are not dropping at the moment - Missing a few dog walks wont harm them but heatstroke can. 🐕

In my role as a Vet Nurse I carry out routine health checks this involves ensuring microchips are scanning correctly - but I also check owners and pets details on the National Database to make sure they’re up to date.
When presented with a stray pet the quickest way to obtain the owners details is usually through a chip this enables a swift reunion ❤️
I often find chips NOT registered or still registered to the breeder and lots of incorrect contact details

Cats claws - To clip or not to clip ? 😸
I often get asked to clip cats nails and I will explain to owners that the majority of these do not need doing. Most cats especially those that go outdoors keep them to a suitable length, they need their nails for defence, climbing and territory marking and clipping them unnecessarily may cause a problem. Some elderly cats or those with limb deformities may need a trim now and again and it’s important that these are monitored. Ensuring house cats have a suitable scratching post is really important otherwise they’ll likely use your sofa or carpet !
Get in touch if you’re unsure.
(One of my cats Neville, he lives the life of Riley) 😍

Introducing my own dogs Nelly the Border Terrier and Fen the Labrador. Nelly is 8 yrs old and Fen is 9. We’ve had them both since puppies. Where Nelly is always (🤞) in rude health Fen sadly suffers from arthritis in her elbow and carpus (wrist), we manage this with pain relief and exercising on soft ground. There are lots you can do to help dogs and cats with arthritis. Get in touch if you need some help.
