🇪🇺 A difficult update on EU sales
We’re having to pause sales to the EU following the introduction of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
This is a really difficult decision for us, as a significant proportion of our customers are based in the EU. ❤️
We want to be clear that the issue isn’t our packaging. We already use minimal packaging and ensure that what we do use is recyclable or biodegradable, and we fully support the aim of reducing packaging waste.
The problem is the bureaucracy and fixed costs involved in complying across 27 countries. As a tiny UK business, we could be looking at thousands of pounds in authorised representation and reporting costs, before we’ve even sold a single item, despite putting a very small amount of packaging into the EU.
This comes on top of the additional costs we already pay following Brexit, such as paying for EU representation to comply with the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR).
For businesses like ours, these costs simply aren’t proportionate.
We know we’re far from the only small business affected by this, and we support calls for a more proportionate approach, including SME exemptions and appropriate thresholds based on turnover and packaging volumes.

We really hope a more proportionate approach can be found so that small businesses can continue to trade across EU borders without compliance costs making it impossible. ❤️
