Dunblane Fire Update

Thank you to all our clients who have been so accommodating and understanding while we try and navigate our way through this incident. We are so thankful that nobody was hurt.

We are so appreciative of the amazing local Fire Departments and the Police for all their efforts. Our thoughts are with those who have lost their home and our fellow local businesses who have also been affected.

We have suffered significant damage to our Dunblane Clinic, and it is certain we will remain closed for a long period of time. We are already taking steps to figure out a long-term plan so we can hopefully remain in the Dunblane area and cater to your Veterinary needs.

In the meantime, our admin team at Stirling are working hard behind the scenes to rearrange appointments and prescription requests. We will be in contact over the next few days with anyone who has an upcoming appointment and make necessary arrangements to reschedule this.

Thank you again and we will update everyone accordingly when we know more information.

☀️ HEATSTROKE ☀️

We are reposting this information to remind owners to take extra care over the next few days as we have a spike of hot weather! 🕶️🌞

We advice not to walk dogs on hot pavements and keep them away from the direct sun until later on in the evening when it is much cooler. 🐕‍🦺

If you suspect your pet has heatstroke please contact the hospital immediately. 🏥

We advise to begin to cool down your pet by using cool water to soak their body, paws and armpits. 💦

❌**Please do not place wet towels over your animals as these can trap the heat between the animal and the towel and worsen the patients condition.** ❌

Please take extra care with brachycephalic breeds, who are more at risk of developing heat stroke in warm weather. 🐾🐶

‼️Dunblane Branch

The building next door to our Dunblane Branch is currently on fire.

We will be closed until further notice and the phone lines will be redirected to our Stirling Hospital where appointments will be available to all clients.

Thank you for your patience and we are very thankful our building was empty so nobody was hurt.

🐾💚Vet Nursing Awareness Month 💚🐾

This month, we celebrate the incredible dedication, compassion, skill, and resilience of veterinary nurses, the unsung heroes of animal healthcare. 🩺🐶🐱🐰🐹

Behind every successful surgery, every comforted patient, every reassured pet owner, and every emergency saved, there is a veterinary nurse working tirelessly with professionalism and heart.❤️‍🩹

Veterinary nurses do so much more than many people realise. Every single day they:

🐾 Monitor anaesthesia

🐾 Care for sick, injured, and recovering animals

🐾 Provide emergency and critical care in high-pressure situations

🐾 Administer medications and treatments, ensuring animals have appropriate pain relief on board and are comfortable whilst in hospital

🐾 Take blood samples, run laboratory tests, and monitor vital signs

🐾 Support frightened or anxious animals with gentle handling and compassion

🐾 Educate owners about preventative healthcare, nutrition, medications, and recovery plans

🐾 Assist in diagnostics including x-rays, ultrasounds, and laboratory work

🐾 Help maintain strict hygiene and infection control standards

🐾 Comfort families during difficult and emotional moments

🐾 Advocate for animal welfare every single day

But perhaps most importantly veterinary nurses bring kindness, patience, empathy, and love to every patient they care for. 👨‍⚕️ 👩‍⚕️

Vet nursing is physically demanding, emotionally challenging, and incredibly skilled work. It requires knowledge, resilience, teamwork, and quick thinking. Veterinary nurses often work long hours, miss breaks, stay late for emergencies, and continue giving their all because they genuinely care about animals and the people who love them. 🐾🏥❤️‍🩹

Fantastic Fawkes! 🐹

Meet Fawkes, a 4 year old Guinea pig who was rescued by his owners as company for his piggy friend, Buckbeak!

Fawkes was brought to the hospital after his diligent owners noticed some blood in his urine and squeaking when he peed! After an examination and abdominal ultrasound scan, Fawkes was diagnosed with a bladder stone…. Ouch!

You can see the stone inside his bladder on the ultrasound scan, as well as on the x-ray picture. The x-ray is important, as it helped us to make sure there were not more stones in his urinary tract which would have needed removed too. 🩻

He was admitted along with his brother Buckbeak for emotional support ahead of surgery under general anaesthetic to remove the stone. We like to keep Guinea pigs and rabbits hospitalised with their friends!… it helps to keep them calm.🐹🐹

Fawkes is showing off his bladder stone in a little jar, while warming up under a heat blanket after his surgery!

Pain relief is also really important for these species to make sure they eat immediately after surgery… Fawkes took his meds like a champ (although we did have to source him the cherry flavoured antibiotics!).💊

Guinea pigs are complex little animals who deserve vet care too, and can develop health conditions just like dogs and cats. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

Fawkes is recovering well at home now, thanks to the excellent care from his owners, and his magical Harry Potter-style healing powers with no further blood in his urine or squeaking when he passes urine! 🐾❤️‍🩹

As part of Vet Nursing Awareness Week, we’re proud to highlight the pathway to becoming a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) and the vital role they play within practice. 🐾

Becoming a veterinary nurse requires a combination of academic study and practical, hands-on training. Student veterinary nurses typically undertake an approved qualification while working within a veterinary practice, gaining essential clinical experience alongside their studies. 📖

Throughout their training, they develop a wide range of skills including patient care, anaesthesia monitoring, surgical assistance, diagnostic imaging, and client communication. This comprehensive training ensures they are well-equipped to support both patients and their owners to the highest standard. 📚 🩺

Following qualification, veterinary nurses must register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS). This registration is essential, as it ensures veterinary nurses meet strict professional standards and are accountable to a recognised governing body. Registered Veterinary Nurses are also required to undertake continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain and update their skills throughout their careers. 👩‍⚕️ 👨‍⚕️

As regulated professionals, RVNs play an integral role within the clinical team supporting veterinary surgeons, advocating for patient welfare, and delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care every day. ❤️‍🩹

We would like to take this opportunity to recognise the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of veterinary nurses, both within our practice and across the profession. 👏
