✨Saturday 12th September ✨

Youngster in-hand clinic at Totleywells Equestrian

£30 per person, it would be great to see you there 💜

*no colts or stallions*

Come along to a relaxed hour of in-hand work with your youngster.
If there is anything specific you want to do, let me know, I'm not a mind reader 😉

We'll have a chat about training styles, reward based and pressure based, and the differences between the two and how they can be used effectively.

Suggested exercises which may or may not be included:

- stand quietly when asked
-walking when you walk, stop when you stop
-backing up gently and in a controlled, relaxed manner
-trotting in hand (show prep)
-navigating a pole work exercise
-standing at peace beside the mounting block (age dependant)
-leg and hoof handling

Lovely people... I have Totleywells Equestrian booked for Saturday 12th September, but forgot to advertise my usual Connection Clinic 🫣 Before I create a booking for the clinic, does anyone have any suggestions of what they would like to do?

Throwing some ideas out there:
💙A demo of some sort- ideas welcome!
✨A ridden clinic focusing on mindset and why we do what we do
💙 A youngster in hand clinic
✨Just groundwork, no obstacles
💙 Target training and how it can help your horse

Any other suggestions?

This video was sent to me last week by a client who had been aiming for . There was just one thing holding them back. Can you guess what it was??

It can be so tricky travelling alone, particularly if you have a horse that is sticky to load 😩

Harley had came so far and would go into the trailer for treats, but refused to stay in. We assume in a previous home something happened which has made him very wary of movement behind him.

With the help of many many carrots and some creative groundwork, we created a space he was happy to stay in. It took a few sessions and never ending patience from Harley’s owner, but she now has a horse that will self load, and stand happily while the chain is closed behind him ⭐️

The new kid on the block, Fiadh, arrived at the end of June, and slotted in with the other two girls like she’d lived here her whole life. With us, however, she has been much more hesitant.

We’ve kept handling to short sessions as she shuts down very quickly, even something as simple as putting a headcollar on would result in glassy eyes and frozen to the spot 😢

Here is a brief snippet of some positive reinforcement to build the relationship. We haven’t done much target training with Fiadh for no particular reason, so it was great to see her playing so readily with Melissa in this short clip. Do you see how in sync they are walking?😍

Robin (the horse) loves his yard. He loves his best friend. He loves his haynet. He loves snoozing in the sunshine ☀️ He’s not really keen to leave all his homely comforts.

Once out the yard, he is quite happy to hack on his own, but leaving the yard itself has always been a sticking point. He is just sooo happy there.

His lovely owner doesn’t want to use force or violence so we’ve used feed buckets with a couple of treats to get him thinking forwards, and not back to his bestie.

You can see here he is actively thinking forwards to the next bucket 💜

Over time we spread the buckets out further, until he was out the yard altogether.

Repetition is the key and once Robin had worked out the rules of the game, he was very willing to play 🦄

I was heartbroken to hear that Monty Roberts passed away on Friday. He was such an incredible man that it somehow felt like he would go on forever.

The first, and only, time I saw Monty in person was during his final tour in Scotland at SNEC. I was completely blown away by his confidence, knowledge, and unwavering passion for horses. I knew then that my life had changed trajectory forever.

That demonstration inspired me to begin my journey through the Intelligent Horsemanship courses, eventually becoming a Recommended Trainer. It set me on a path that has shaped not only my career, but the way I understand and work with horses every single day.

His legacy will live on through every horse and every human whose lives have been touched by his teachings.

Thank you, Monty, for showing us there is a better way. 💜

Behind my favourite pair of ears today 💜

Monty is only 4 years old and is learning how to be a grown up.

His lovely owner is away on a cruise 🛳️ (not jealous AT ALL 🥲🥲🥲) and has trusted me to work with Monty while she is away. He is so lovely and friendly and gentle and curious. I could complement him all day 💜

Oh, and look at the beautiful flowers and card from Ashley 🥹 I have the best clients.

This Sunday 2nd August at RDA Glasgow Group with Strathendrick Riding Club 🐴

Our Connection Clinic is coming to Glasgow. There are still 2 spaces left in this clinic ran by the riding club 🥳

✨What's involved?
A chat about horse behaviour, groundwork to finesse any communication issues, some obstacles to work through, increase your bond in-hand or top it off riding round the exercises.

✨Who can do this?
Anyone with a horse! Whether a youngster needing to see the world in a calm, controlled environment, happy hackers looking for a new challenge, schoolmasters, or anyone in between.

We would LOVE to see you there 💜
