Poppys second time in the long reins.

Now she is seven 🫣 she is definitely not a youngster, so it is time she starts learning how to be a functioning member of society and starts giving us more than kisses and endless love and vet bills.

It was blowing a gale, but now we’ve started her it’s all about being “consistent”. So she got approximately 5 minutes of work before we called it a day. But, living out 24/7 with zero facilities means she is very used to ALL weather conditions and hasn’t melted yet 😂

Love the massive poo in the middle of the school that she had deposited right before we started 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

10th October at Totleywells Equestrian

Halloween Connection Clinic 👻 🎃

Is this a little bit last minute? Yes. But I'm telling myself I'm posting it the month before, so it's okay.

Join us for some Halloween fun with various challenges and a Halloween theme clinic in October.

What to expect?
👻 Various over/under/through obstacles to tackle with your horse.
👻 Ridden or in-hand, or a bit of both.
👻 Prizes for the best fancy dress in each group 🧙‍♀️

Anyone with a horse can attend. The first group is primarily for those wishing to ride, and the second for those non-ridden, however if you do wish to either ride or not ride, just drop me a message and let me know 💜

I spent the morning with Riley, who has been struggling with claustrophobia and as a result has found loading and travelling difficult 😢

We worked progressively to make sure he was comfortable with both ramps and the front window being closed. We gave him lots of time to process, some yummy haylage (special treat) and worked to increase his threshold in the smaller space.

He aced it and was very comfortable standing while we peered in the front window 😂

Remember though guys you need to consider everyone’s safety. In Riley’s case we dramatically increased his threshold, but he has already learned he can rear in the trailer and put his front legs over the front bar 😱 while obviously his owners can continue working on making the trailer a good place to be, we have to think about the safety of the humans and horses involved. If Riley was to do this while travelling, it could result in injury or damage to the trailer 🦄

We'll have a chat about training styles, reward based and pressure based, and the differences between the two and how they can be used effectively.

Suggested exercises which may or may not be included:

- stand quietly when asked
-walking when you walk, stop when you stop
-backing up gently and in a controlled, relaxed manner
-trotting in hand (show prep)
-navigating a pole work exercise
-standing at peace beside the mounting block (age dependant)
-leg and hoof handling

Lovely people... I have Totleywells Equestrian booked for Saturday 12th September, but forgot to advertise my usual Connection Clinic 🫣 Before I create a booking for the clinic, does anyone have any suggestions of what they would like to do?

Throwing some ideas out there:
