Congratulations to our team here at Vale Referrals, who have recently contributed to a study published in JAVMA (the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association) 🎉

Renato Miloro (our former Surgical Intern), Barbora Mala (our Resident in Small Animal Surgery), Vaclav Ceplecha (our Internal Medicine Clinician) and Michal Vlasin (our Specialist in Small Animal Surgery) all worked together on this study.

We are committed to sharing our knowledge and expertise here at Vale Referrals and are very proud of our clinicians for their team-work and dedication to research 👏!

🐾 Introducing Brodie 🐾

Brodie came to Vale Referrals earlier this year for further investigation of a long term right hind limb lameness. He was diagnosed with a ruptured Achilles tendon, which was causing his hock to drop.

Brodie had surgery to reconstruct the tendon and his leg was placed in a cast for six weeks to protect the repair. After weeks of dedication and diligence from Brodie's owners, we are pleased to say he has now made a full recovery 🥰

In these two videos, taken pre and post-operatively, you can see the difference surgery has made to Brodie and his gait!

We’re incredibly proud to be part of our local community, so we were delighted to be awarded an IVC Community Grant – giving us the opportunity to support two charities that are very close to our team’s hearts 💙

As part of this, we were pleased to donate £500 to the Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS) Foundation, a wonderful organisation supporting families and funding vital research.

We’re also proud to be donating £500 to the GL11 Community Hub, helping to make a difference right here in our local area.

Supporting both local and national causes is something we truly care about, and we’re grateful to be able to give back in this way 🙌

📣 Teaching Spotlight 📣

This week, our Internal Medicine clinician Phil took a break from clinics to teach a course entitled Respiratory Medicine. This lecture formed part of the IVC Graduate Academy, helping new vets make the transition from university to clinical work. Some of our wonderful patients were featured in Phil's webinars, as "real-life" examples of how to diagnose and treat tricky respiratory cases.

Our team are always here to help so please get in touch if you'd like to discuss a challenging case with us or if you'd like to arrange a lunch a learn with one of our clinicians!

Today we’re celebrating International Women’s Day and the incredible women who make up our team at Vale Vets and Referrals. 💜

From surgery to nursing, patient care to client support, the dedication, skill and compassion of the women in our practice make an enormous difference to the lives of the animals and families we care for every day.

We’re proud to share this photo of our amazing all-female surgical team hard at work — a small glimpse of the talent, teamwork and commitment that happens behind the scenes in our hospital.

Thank you to all the women in veterinary medicine and beyond who inspire, lead and care every single day.

🐾 Introducing Alby 🐾

Alby recently visited the Internal Medicine team at Vale Referrals for a re-examination relating to a urinary condition. While his urinary signs had been stable on a dedicated diet, his owners mentioned something new - Alby had been vomiting intermittently for several weeks and seemed a little more lethargic than usual.

Given the change in his clinical signs, we performed an abdominal ultrasound. This revealed a strongly shadowing structure sitting in his stomach, suspicious for a foreign body. With this finding, we proceeded with upper gastrointestinal endoscopy under general anaesthesia. Examination of his stomach confirmed the presence of a sharp piece of plastic. Using an extraction basket, we were able to successfully retrieve the foreign material without the need for surgery! Alby recovered well from the procedure and was discharged home the same day 🎉

We are pleased to report that Alby has recovered well and is now comfortable and brighter at home. Many thanks to his owner for their vigilance and to all members of the team who contributed to his care 🥰
