🐰 Rabbit Awareness Week 🐰

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health problems in rabbits?

A rabbit’s teeth grow continuously throughout their life. A poor diet, especially one low in fibre and hay, can prevent teeth from wearing down properly. This can lead to overgrown teeth, painful mouth ulcers, tooth root problems, and difficulty eating.

⚠️ Signs of dental disease in rabbits include:
• Reduced appetite or difficulty eating
• Dropping food from the mouth
• Weight loss
• Excessive drooling or a wet chin
• Runny eyes
• Swelling around the jaw or face
• Changes in behaviour or reduced activity
• Smaller or fewer droppings

The best prevention is providing unlimited good-quality hay, alongside a balanced diet and regular veterinary check-ups.

If you notice any of these signs, contact us on 01438 745833 as soon as possible. Early treatment can make a huge difference to your rabbit’s comfort and health. ❤️🐇

☀️ Hot Weather Warning ☀️

We have seen an increase in cases of heat stroke this week. Please take extra care during the hot weather and avoid unnecessary journeys where possible.

To help keep your dog safe, please avoid:
🐾 Leaving dogs in cars, even for a short time
🐾 Keeping dogs in poorly ventilated areas
🐾 Walking dogs during the hottest parts of the day

Signs of heat stroke include:
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Feeling unusually warm to the touch
⚠️ Excessive drooling (hypersalivation)
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Weakness or collapse

Heat stroke can become a medical emergency very quickly - if you believe your dog has heat stroke immediately dunk them in cool water and call us as soon as possible on 01438 745833.

Following this year’s Rabbit Awareness Week theme, we wanted to show that feeding your bunny doesn’t have to be boring!

By turning your rabbit’s biscuits into a fun enrichment activity, you can provide both mental and physical stimulation while encouraging natural foraging behaviours. Foraging toys are highly recommended for rabbits, as they help keep them active, engaged, and entertained.

As you can see below, the lovely Parker is demonstrating some simple ways to enrich your rabbit’s feeding time. Enrichment doesn’t have to be expensive either—an easy, low-cost option is to place their biscuits inside an empty toilet roll tube and fold down the ends, creating a simple puzzle for them to investigate and enjoy. 🐰💕

☀️ Another hot week is on the way! ☀️

As temperatures rise, we want to remind everyone how to keep their pets safe, comfortable, and cool during the warm weather.

Here are some simple, low-cost ways to help your furry (and not-so-furry!) family members beat the heat:

❄️ Frozen lick mats are a great way to keep pets cool, entertained, and mentally stimulated.

🐰 Move hutches and enclosures into shaded areas and ensure there is plenty of ventilation throughout the day.

💦 Frozen water bottles wrapped in a towel can provide a cool place for rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small pets to rest against.

🐕 Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening, and always check pavements are not too hot for paws.

🦔 Leave shallow bowls of water in your garden for local wildlife. Add a few stones or pebbles to help smaller animals and insects climb out safely.

💧 A small paddling pool can be a fun and refreshing way for dogs to cool down.

🧊 Cooling mats are suitable for many pets and can provide welcome relief from the heat.

🍦 Frozen treats for cats, such as frozen Lick-e-Lix, can help keep them cool and hydrated.

🥕 Frozen carrots make a healthy, refreshing snack for many dogs.

💧 Always ensure fresh, clean water is available and topped up regularly throughout the day.

🌡️ Never leave pets in a parked car, even for a few minutes. Temperatures can rise dangerously fast.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly! If you have any concerns about your pet during the hot weather, please don’t hesitate to contact us immediately on 01438 745833

🐾 Your pet’s health and wellbeing are our priority.
