🐴 Off to the Donkeys at The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust!

Thank you for everyone who sent me bits, donated bits and money, and let me buy them so they can head off to a better life for the Donkeys and Horses out in Gambia.

If you have anything, not just bits, that youd like to donate, I send to several charities including this one, Egyptian charities and to St Lucia as well as our local RDA. I can forward them on for you. Medicines/potions are welcomed too for the Gambian horses.

🐴 Do wolf teeth affect bitting?

It is a long standing "thing to do" to have a horse's wolf teeth taken out. But is it necessary?

🐺What are wolf teeth?
These are the first premolar tooth. Usually small in size, can be peg like with square our pointed tips. Not all horse's have them. They no longer serve a purpose as they are remnant from ancient horse's.
They often sit close to the larger premolar tooth but can be situated in the interdental space in the upper bars.

In the most part they don't cause a problem but sometimes they can be very sensitive and painful. Even more so when they are positioned in the interdental space like in the photo.
They can cause headshaking and other bit avoidance issues when the bit comes into contact with them. This especially happens in a mouth with a low premolar and already small interdental space even if the wolf tooth wasn't there. They can make the placement of the bit incredibly difficult in this case.
