Today is National Reptile Awareness Day!🐍🐢

Reptiles may be a little different from our usual furry companions, but they deserve just as much care and attention. They have very specific care requirements, for example;

🌡They rely on external heat sources to regulate their body temperature.
🌞 Many species require special UVB lighting to support healthy bones and calcium metabolism.
🥗 Nutritional requirements vary greatly between species, feeding the correct diet is essential.
🏠 The right enclosure, humidity, and enrichment all contribute to their wellbeing.

We'd love to see some photos of your scaly companions in the comments below📸💚

Meet Bert! 🐤

Bert came to us as an emergency last week after catching his toe in his cage, causing lots of bleeding. His mum was obviously very worried to rushed him straight down to us.

After assessing his toe, we performed a general anaesthesia on Bert in order to stop the bleeding. He's now doing really well at home and hopefully won't be scaring his mum like that again anytime soon!😅✨

📍 Have your details changed?

If you've moved house, or changed your phone number or email address, don't forget to update your pets microchip record.

A microchip is only useful if the information linked to it is current, so it's worth checking if your details are still correct.

If you're unsure which database your pet's microchip is registered with, we can help point you in the right direction.🐾

✨Another little team update!✨

There have been quite a few changes within the Waterside team recently, and we've got another exciting one to share!

From November, our lovely receptionist Charlotte will be moving to a new role with us as a Veterinary Care Assistant. 🐾

In her new role, Charlotte will be spending more time behind the scenes supporting our vets and nurses with the day-to-day care of our patients.

It's lovely to see our team continue to grow and develop within Waterside, and we're really excited to see Charlotte take this next step. Please join us in wishing her lots of luck for November.🩵

Parasite prevention is important all year round🐾

It's easy to think that fleas and ticks are mainly a problem in summer, but they can still affect pets during the colder months too.

Fleas can survive indoors in warm homes, ticks may still be active during milder weather, and worms can be picked up throughout the year. Keeping parasite treatment up to date helps reduce the risk of itching, skin problems, illness, and in some cases the spread of disease.

If you are unsure what parasite protection your pet needs, how often they should be treated, or when their next dose is due, get in touch and we will be happy to help🐾

*OWNER FOUND*

Unfortunately we have had a deceased black and white male cat handed in to the practice today. He was found on Little Barford Road. The cat is microchipped but unfortunately the phone number is incorrect so we are unable to contact the owners.

Please contact the practice on 01480 756188 if you believe this may be your cat.

Last Friday, two of our receptionists, Suzie and Eliza, attended the annual BVRA congress✨🐾

It was a brilliant day packed with talks, learning, new ideas, and plenty of opportunities to connect with other veterinary receptionists across the country. There were lots of useful takeaways to bring back to the practice, as well as a chance to reflect on just how important the reception team is🩵

After the congress, the day carried on with dinner and drinks. And of course we had to give the photobooth a go😅

A lovely day from start to end, we will definitely be back next year!✨

It's that time of the year to get our shelled babies ready for the big sleep!💤

This year we are offering brand new clinics with our exotics nurse Hayley, to help prepare owners for hibernation. Your appointment will include a faecal floatation test and microscopy to assess parasite burden and determine if treatment is required prior to hibernation, a full overview of husbandry and home care, and guidlines on safe hibernation including what to do if things don't go quite right.

These clinics will cost £35.
Literature and recovery diet also included (while stocks last).

Call us on 01480 756188 to book your appointment with Hayley🐢💛

Regular weigh-ins are a simple way to keep an eye on your pets health and can help pick up gradual changes that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Weight checks with our nurses are included as part of our Health Plans, but for our canine clients you're also welcome to pop in and use the scales in reception at any time, no appointment needed. For cats and other small animals we do recommend booking in with the nurse, as we need to ensure a consult room is available. 🐾

Small changes can be easy to miss, so regular checks are always worthwhile 🩵

Pictured below is the beautiful Cooper who was such a good boy for his weigh-in🥰
