Scone Palace International Horse Trials spam...

We had a fab time at Scone. Just a quick trip this year, up on Wednesday night, early morning dressage followed by a day looking round on Thursday and Gin back home and out to her field Thursday night.

I'm so proud of how well she felt and behaved, what a great experience it was for her.

Scone was looking fabulous. I am a bit sad that I didn't get to gallop round that cross country course this year but so glad we went to be test riders for the 1* dressage.

Crombie's Pro πŸ“Έ from Julia Shearwood Photography at Frickley Park Horse Trials.

I'm so proud of him for how he has come on this year. Its not that long ago that the thought of getting him to an event seemed like a distant dream.

There is still a lot of work to do, particularly with the show jumping πŸ™ˆ but his way of going and my ability to ride him have improved massively.

He and Gin seem to wind each other up when they are at a competition together so I'm also proud of him for holding it together in the ring when it mattered. There were times in the warm up when I was saying I'm never going to be able to ride him.

When Crombie gets anxious he does funny things with his tongue πŸ‘…. He always has, right from when we first got him as a two year old, even before he was ever bitted. It has lead to him loosing marks in the dressage before but I think this time he managed to keep it in his mouth until the final halt. I love the photo of the halt with his tongue out cos that's my boy πŸ‘…πŸ’œ. Julia, the photographer very kindly included some extra photos as his tongue was out in that photo πŸ’œ.

We absolutely loved our time at Frickley and doing the three day event. We will definitely go back.

There is just one event left for us at Alnwick Ford this year and then we have a winter of show jumping to look forward to.

I absolutely love the one from in front of the house and love how bold she looks over the cross country jumps from the arena event.

I am in πŸ’œ with these pro πŸ“Έ from 1st Class Images of Gin at Scone Palace International Horse Trials today.

Gin and I were guinea pig test riders for the 1* dressage. It was such a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of international competition and atmosphere without the pressure of being competitive.

We were lucky enough to be in the arena next to Ros Canter. Where else could you have such a fabulous opportunity to ride along side an Olympion.

Gin was fantastic from start to finish, I am delighted with the way she behaved and to find out that our score was 33.4. That would have us in 13th place over night if we were competing which I would be delighted with.

We were proud to wear our ribbon for Kerry and Sophie πŸ©΅πŸ’™πŸ€.

Gin has been feeling so confident in all I've asked of her this past couple of weeks so I'm hopeful she will be back out eventing next year and hopefully we will get to do a 1* for real in the not too distant future.

It was so lovely to catch up with the guys from 1st Class Images, they really are the best team πŸ“ΈπŸ’œ.

Gin is all settled in at Scone Palace International Horse Trials.

She and I are going to be test riders for the 1* dressage tomorrow morning at 8.40am.

It will be a great opportunity for her to experience the atmosphere without the pressure of competition.

She has settled beautifully in the stable. She is so much better on her own without Crombie. She has eaten one bucket of food so is now on her second and is lovely and calm.

Mum headed off to the chipper on her trike for deliveroo for us all and Wallace - adventures of a yard dog is in charge of supervision.

It wasn't quite the fairy tale ending at Frickley Park Horse Trials but I'm so super proud of what we have achieved and we have all had a blast. I think Frickley is our new favourite event. The team at Frickley are so friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere and championship feel is fantastic.

I was feeling the pressure going into the show jumping in the lead and being fairly certain, given our record that we were going to throw it away. However, I did my best to focus on what I could do to make it go as well as possible and I'm super proud of the round we produced. We did have two down which unfortunately put us down from 1st to 2nd but I'm pleased that given the pressure and the atmosphere it wasn't 4 down to put us way down the line. I think it's one of the best rounds we have jumped this year and if we keep going like that then we will be progressing in no time.

There was no time to celebrate with Gin up next in the arena event. She was absolutely fantastic to pull off a super clear and win the class. The cross country part was proper cross country fences and I'm delighted with how confident she felt.

What a super week, four classes and a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I couldn't be more chuffed (well possibly if Crombie hadn't have had the last show jump down and it was two 1st's, a 3rd and a 4th). I'm so proud of my ponies and so grateful to Mo Heaton and Sandy Smith and of course Wallace - adventures of a yard dog for coming on the adventure with me and supporting all the way.

We are trucking home now with Heather Bennett transport and the lorry of with Roys Auto's.

Thanks again to the team at Frickley for a fantastic week and I'm sure there will be pro photo spam coming soon, oh and the videos that I've not had chance to look at yet πŸ˜€.

Frickley Park Horse Trials spam incoming...

We have had just the most fabulous last day at Frickley.

This morning started with our first ever trot up.

Thank you so much to Beferal by Kazi B for making us the most perfect hat and for helping choose the rest of the outfit. I wanted something different to the usual tweed and for me I think it was just perfect. πŸ’œ

The Frickley team do a great job of making it feel really special and like a proper championship. With the announcer and fancy runway it certainly did feel special.

I think Frickley Park Horse Trials is fast becoming my new favourite event πŸ’œ.

Gin and Crombie have been out quite a lot for picks of grass today. Crombie didn't go xc until after 3pm and Gin didn't jump until nearly 6pm so there was plenty of time earlier on for some chilling and munching. They found a lovely green patch of thistles that they were thoroughly enjoying.

Crombie was epic cross country. He was wired when I got on to warm up and I ended up trotting the first two warm up jumps but once he came out the start box he was on it and felt absolutely fab. We were well up on the clock so there was a lot of clock watching on the way home to try and make sure we didn't get any speeding penalties. We crossed the line bang on 6 minutes. The optimum time was 6.15, you are allowed a 15 second window under the time so we were just in the time allowed without incurring penalties.

Gin was fantastic jumping this evening. I'm so glad we brought her, it has been a great education for stabling away, hacking somewhere new and today she jumped in the main arena so got the full atmosphere. She jumped two double clears for 4th in the 90 and 3rd in the 100.

Tomorrow Gin is doing the arena event, from what I can see the cross country part is proper cross country fences so it will be great to see how she feels about that after her loss of confidence at Badminton. This week is the most confident she has felt in a while so hopefully she will be back feeling brave soon.

I am really looking forward to the trot up in the morning with Crombie and getting all smart. Part of the aim this week was to get some great photos, we have done that already but I think there is still a chance for some more.

We have ended up over night leaders going into the final day. I have to admit that knowing that show jumping isn't our strong point, that isn't actually a position I wanted to find us in. I was really hoping for a top 10 finish and thought top 5 would be amazing but anything higher than that going into show jumping was just going to lead to huge disappointment. But here we are right at the top. I don't expect to jump clear, Crombie has let the atmosphere get to him the last two days so I can't expect any different tomorrow. But I can focus on what we can do. I can give him an instant calmer paste. I can lunge him before I get on. I can remain calm and remember to ride him forward from the leg. I can trot the first few warm up jumps. I can canter an extra circle before we start and I can appreciate that regardless of how our showjumping round goes I have had an amazing few days and am so glad we made the trip down to Frickley.

Part two...

The Drinks Party

We need some help with some drinks party math...

You start the night with three people and eight drinks tokens.
You get three rounds of three drinks and then somehow still have seven tokens.
You then trade the tokens for a bottle of prosecco and two bottles of beer.

Moral of the story send Sandy Smith to the bar.

Great night followed by a lovely meal in the on site restaurant. Really friendly staff, quick service and fantastic food. We were too full for dessert so had that to take away.

I have some videos from today but am too tired to look at them now so tomorrow will do another post from today with some videos.

We have had so much fun today at Frickley Park Horse Trials that I think today's report may have to come in several parts...

Gin, mum and I found the hacking route this morning and had a lovely ride out. Gin feeling happy and confident and mum and I enjoying a natter in the sunshine.

Dressage time and as anticipated Crombie was pretty tense in the atmosphere. The cross country runs quite close and there is quite a lot going on. The dressage arenas are beautiful, we were in the first arena so it was great to be able to warm up next to the arena and then just pop the other side of the rope to do the test.

Crombie can be pretty spooky and sharp with it when he is tense so warming up it was hard to not keep looking for things that he might spook at. What he doesn't usually do is leap up in the air and then throw in a buck for good measure but today he thought it was worth a go. I'm glad mum saw it or I don't think anyone would have believed me. Anyhow we cantered a lot in the warm up and managed to canter right round and into the area where the arenas were and the whole way round the arena before coming back to trot and leg yielding round the arena before going in. He was tight in the neck at times but on the whole held his πŸ’© together to do a lovely, obedient test for 31.5.

That leaves us in 2nd place over night, just 0.2 penalties behind the leader. I couldn't be much happier with that πŸ₯°.

That is by far the nicest dressage arena I've ridden in and we are so impressed by how friendly everyone is at the event.

I'm really looking forward to cross country tomorrow.
