Kaydee has been helping me with the training horses for a few months and riding Crombie.

It has been great to be able to take Crombie and Gin hacking together and to do their fitness work together and when Gin needed support getting her confidence cross country schooling it was great to have someone to ride Crombie. Kaydee is a really kind rider and does a great job with all the horses she rides.

Kaydee hasn't had lots of opportunities for jumping and competing so I thought it would be great for her to have the chance to take Crombie round the 80 at Gleneagles.

Crombie was so good at Alnwick last week and was a dream to ride round the cross country, I told Kaydee all she would have to do was steer him round.

It was windy at Gleneagles, there was a shoot going on, Gin was shouting for Crombie from the lorry park and we got him to the warm up about 15 minutes too early as the class was running behind, so Crombie was, in Kaydee's words, 'a cheeky boy'.

That is NOT what I was calling him.

He can be anxious and get his nickers in a knot but he doesn't usually buck but he couldn't get out of a trot in the warm up without bucking. Kaydee ended up not getting a warm up fence and I released them into the start box as the starter got to 3 seconds in the count down.

He redeemed himself by taking her round and jumping anything she pointed him at. I was waiting for them at the finish and think they looked great over the last few fences.

I hope Kaydee had fun and sees now what she can deal with. When we take Crombie out again we will try and manage him better and hope that he remembers how old he is and all the things he has been to. Warm ups are over rated anyway right?

Yesterday we headed to Gleneagles Equestrian School for their hunter trial.

Gin and I did the 90 and after he was so good at Alnwick last week I thought it would be a good opportunity for Kaydee to ride Crombie in the 80.

Gin was absolutely super, on great form and flew round for a fab clear. She was quite spicy in the warm up and even thought she'd throw in a few moves after fence 3. She was lovely and bold at the water and cantered straight through.

It's so lovely to have her feeling confident again. Hopefully I can find the balance of keeping her happy and I'm really looking forward to see what we can achieve next year.

Gin was up next at Alnwick Ford Equestrian.

Her last British Event was Badminton Grassroots back at the start of May when she lost her confidence so we just entered the GOBE90 to see how she went and it wouldn't matter if we were eliminated or decided to retire.

I should not have doubted her as she was on top form all day, feeling keen and confident to take the win on her dressage score 💜.

We've taken it slowly to re build her confidence and to try and keep things fun with no pressure.

She was lovely in the dressage for her best score for a while of 27.3. Show jumping was great, a little look at the first fence but then totally switched on for a fab clear.

I didn't use my watch cross country as I wanted no pressure and to just let her do what she was happy with. She was buzzy at the start and ready to get going and flew round giving a great feeling.

The last few times cross country she hasn't been confident with the water so I let her take her time and gave her a look at the novice water first so she knew what was coming. She cantered through confidently to to finish her round in the time.

It was lovely to see the owner and breeder, Julie Lawson, of Gin's sire Primitive Faerie Tale Advanced Event Stallion and also one of Gin's siblings who took second place in the same section. Julie was also third making it a great section for her.

It's a shame that there aren't any more events for us but I'm super excited for next year with Gin.

We had a great day at our last British Eventing Official event of the year yesterday at Alnwick Ford Equestrian.

Both Crombie and Gin were there, Crombie in the 90 and Gin in the GOBE90. Wallace - adventures of a yard dog was of course there overseeing proceedings as well.

It was pretty full on with not much time between horses but Sandy Smith was top groom, horse holder, practice fence alterer, videographer and moral supporter to keep us on track.

Crombie was up first for dressage and produced his best test of the year to score 27.8, putting him in the lead after dressage. The lorry was parked near to his dressage arena so with Gin calling to him as we went round the outside of the arena he got pretty up tight but I managed to let go of the neck strap just in time to trot down the center line and he held life together in the test. His tongue does make a cheeky appearance, anybody spot it in the video? Lucky it seems the judge missed it 👅.

Story of his life with a pole down in the show jumping. Listen out for Sandy's exhale as the pole falls 🙈. But I would say over all a good round for us and we will be working super hard over the winter to try and better this phase.

Cross country was great fun, he's such a good, honest boy cross country.

We fished up 3rd so a little bit of diesel money and a lovely goodie bucket from section sponsors Equine Products UK.

Gin headed to Foresterseat Cross Country again at the weekend for their hunter trial.

She is feeling good and has been a bit fresh but was exceptionally well behaved in the wind. When several items of clothing took off in the wind from the trade stand I was very grateful to be sitting on Gin and not Crombie.

Overall she felt more confident than last time and was her old buzzy self at the start. She did go momentarily green at fence two but then felt super up to the water. Still a lack of confidence here but we kept it drama free and let her work it out. She took off after the water but then could see some people through the hedge and wanted to stop again.

Gin is very bright and doesn't miss anything but in the past she would have kept going. We just went a long way round to the next jump and after that she was happy to gallop on home.

Our last event of the season is Alnwick Ford this weekend. Crombie is going so Gin is now going too to do the GOBE90 class. GOBE classes are run the same as a normal BE class but with no record and no prizes so it doesn't matter so much if things don't go to plan. It will be great to have her out at an event and hopefully she can start to enjoy it again.

Lots of winter homework for us all then to hopefully come out confident for some fun next year.

My wee girl went cross country today 🥰.

Gin and I headed to Foresterseat Cross Country today to do the hunter trial at their one day event.

Gin got a fright going cross country at Badminton back at the start of May when she was overwhelmed by the atmosphere. She hasn't wanted to do cross country since so we have taken it slow to build her confidence back.

After she felt so confident at Frickley I thought we would enter today to see how she felt.

I'm so proud that she was absolutely super. She was good in the warm up, great at the start and I'm so pleased to see, looking at the video that she went round with her ears pricked 💜.

We took it steady and it was a lovely first time back with not much to look at out on course with beautifully presented fences.

Since Badminton she has really lost her confidence with water. I do find this a little strange as she has always been confident with water, even before she was backed and actually flew through the water at Badminton. Today there was a step down into the water, she backed off right away so I took her round the edge until she walked in and then went back to the step. She wasn't confident again so I let her just run through and carry on. This will have resulted in a big fat E but Gin doesn't know and she finished happy and confident which is the main thing.

We will keep building the confidence but today has really given me hope that she will be back eventing next year.

Scone Palace International Horse Trials spam...

We had a fab time at Scone. Just a quick trip this year, up on Wednesday night, early morning dressage followed by a day looking round on Thursday and Gin back home and out to her field Thursday night.

I'm so proud of how well she felt and behaved, what a great experience it was for her.

Scone was looking fabulous. I am a bit sad that I didn't get to gallop round that cross country course this year but so glad we went to be test riders for the 1* dressage.

Crombie's Pro 📸 from Julia Shearwood Photography at Frickley Park Horse Trials.

I'm so proud of him for how he has come on this year. Its not that long ago that the thought of getting him to an event seemed like a distant dream.

There is still a lot of work to do, particularly with the show jumping 🙈 but his way of going and my ability to ride him have improved massively.

He and Gin seem to wind each other up when they are at a competition together so I'm also proud of him for holding it together in the ring when it mattered. There were times in the warm up when I was saying I'm never going to be able to ride him.

When Crombie gets anxious he does funny things with his tongue 👅. He always has, right from when we first got him as a two year old, even before he was ever bitted. It has lead to him loosing marks in the dressage before but I think this time he managed to keep it in his mouth until the final halt. I love the photo of the halt with his tongue out cos that's my boy 👅💜. Julia, the photographer very kindly included some extra photos as his tongue was out in that photo 💜.

We absolutely loved our time at Frickley and doing the three day event. We will definitely go back.

There is just one event left for us at Alnwick Ford this year and then we have a winter of show jumping to look forward to.
