🛡️🐕‍🦺 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.

Last night we welcomed potential clients in for a demonstration of what our protection dogs can really do — completely 𝗼𝗳𝗳-𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 and under clear handler control.

The important part isn’t simply the power of the dog. It’s the ability to stay neutral until a genuine threat is presented, respond decisively when instructed, and then switch straight back off when told. 💪🧠

That’s what we build into every protection dog:

🐾 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀 — 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱.

It’s one thing for a dog to perform in a quiet training environment. It’s another to stay focused when the real world gets busy. 🌍🐕‍🦺

In this session, 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗴𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝗽𝘆 is putting her training to the test in two very different environments.

First stop: a busy restaurant filled with food, children, noise and people moving around. Plenty of temptation, yet Iris stays calm, settled and well mannered. 🍽️✅

Then it’s straight into a busy shop environment with people walking past, vehicles outside and even a forklift operating nearby. Despite all the distractions, Iris remains focused on her handler and works beautifully.

We’re also changing pace during her off-lead heelwork — slowing right down, speeding up and working through tighter turns — and she adjusts immediately. 🎯

This is why we take our time with the foundations before adding real-world pressure.

🛡️🐾 𝗔 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻 — 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱.

Breed, size and appearance alone do not make a protection dog. When faced with stress or an unfamiliar situation, many dogs will naturally avoid conflict or look to their handler for guidance.

True protection work is built through 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.

A properly trained protection dog learns to:
✅ Stay calm under pressure
✅ Engage only when required
✅ Disengage immediately on command
✅ Remain reliable around people and everyday environments
✅ Work confidently with its handler

And the responsibility doesn’t stop when the training programme ends. These skills must be 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱, 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗴’𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.
