At the beginning of June it was National Volunteers’ Week – a time to celebrate the incredible people who give their time, skills and compassion to support charities, community groups and worthy causes.

It’s also a great opportunity to consider volunteering yourself, whether in your local community or further afield.

At VetPartners, they know volunteering matters to their colleagues. That’s why every team member receives a volunteering day each year, and why we offer vets and RVNs the opportunity to apply for funding to volunteer overseas.

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on nurses Fiona and Elle from our Maghull branch, who used their volunteering day to support a large-scale community initiative with Warrington Animal Welfare.

As temperatures rise, it’s important to make hydration a priority for your pet 💦

Pets can quickly become dehydrated in warm weather, especially during exercise or play. Always ensure fresh, clean water is available and encourage regular drinking breaks - just like players do at half-time.

Keep an eye out for signs of dehydration, including excessive panting, dry gums, lethargy or loss of appetite.

Swapping play time for water breaks can help keep your pet safe, cool and comfortable this summer 🐾

These are toxic to pets and should be avoided completely:

🚫 Chocolate
🚫 Grapes & raisins
🚫 Onions & garlic
🚫 Alcohol
🚫 Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum & sweets)
🚫 Corn on the cob (choking hazard)
🚫 Cooked bones (risk of splintering)

Important notice! 🥪🍎 We will be closing for lunch between 12:30-13:30 every day to allow our wonderful staff to get a lunch break. Due to the busy nature of the job, our staff often don't get the chance to eat, so with much consideration we feel this is the best step to give our staff a chance to have a well deserved break during their 10.5 hour shift. We understand this may be a strange transition, but rest assured we will still be available for emergencies if needed, and lunches will be staggered so patients are never alone. ❤️

Hi I’m Kirstie 👋
I am a student Veterinary nurse working at the Birkdale branch of Parker & Crowther. I am currently on a year long placement from the College of Animal Welfare. I have an advanced Diploma in Equine Management 🐴 before I decided to move to small animals after working at an animal rescue.
I love seeing a range of species but I am particularly interested in guinea pigs 🐹 as I have 3 of my own at home along with 2 rescue cats 🐱 🐱

Annual vaccinations are important to protect your pet from harmful diseases.

Your pet’s health is important to us. If your pet’s vaccination protection has lapsed and a course of two vaccinations are needed to re-start immunity, we’ll bring their vaccinations up to date for the price of a regular annual booster.
