🚨 LOCAL DOG SAFETY WARNING – HEMLOCK POISONING 🚨

Today we had a dog parent come into the shop whose two dogs had both been poisoned by hemlock after a walk.

The dogs began showing worrying symptoms including: ⚠️ Vomiting ⚠️ Tremors ⚠️ Stiffness ⚠️ Seizure-like activity

They were rushed to the vets and had to stay overnight for treatment.

Thankfully, both dogs pulled through and are now recovering, but it could easily have had a very different outcome.

Hemlock has been spotted round the John Shennan Nature Reserve area, close to our Chelmsford store, so we wanted to make other local dog parents aware.

🌿 How to recognise Poison Hemlock • Tall plant, often reaching 1.5–3 metres • Clusters of small white flowers • Fern-like leaves • Smooth hollow stems • Distinctive purple or reddish blotches/spots on the stem

⚠️ Signs of hemlock poisoning in dogs • Excessive drooling • Vomiting • Wobbliness or weakness • Muscle tremors • Stiffness • Seizures/fits • Difficulty breathing

💧 Be especially careful around streams, ponds and ditches, where Water Hemlock (Cowbane) may also grow. This related plant is considered even more toxic.

🐾 If you suspect your dog has eaten hemlock contact a vet immediately • Take a photo of the plant if safe to do so • Don't wait for symptoms to develop

💩 We just need your dog's poo.

Sounds ridiculous, but we've recently had some really positive feedback from one of our All Raw dog parents who completed a Biome4Pets microbiome test last year.🧫🦠🥼

Their dog had struggled with itchy skin for years.

We'd tried all our usual tricks: different proteins, probiotics, prebiotics, gut support, eliminating ingredients and tweaking the diet. Some dogs improve quickly with those changes. This one didn't.

At the end of the day, we're a raw dog food shop. We have a lot of experience helping dogs and we're proud of the advice we give, but we're not microbiome specialists or vets.

🐾🦠 Broth for the gut!🦠🐾

We’ve just brought in MORE bone broth options at All Raw after reading through the Biome Broth Study from Boil and Broth and honestly… it’s one of the most interesting things I’ve read in dog nutrition recently 👀

In collaboration with Biome4Pets & Aberystwyth University, they looked at 33 dogs who had NEVER had bone broth before.

After just 4 weeks of daily bone broth:

✨ 96.88% of dogs showed increased gut bacterial diversity
✨ beneficial Bifidobacterium increased by an average of 1562%
✨ Helicobacter reduced by 96.97%
✨ 87.1% of dogs showed reduced Clostridium levels
✨ owners also reported firmer poos, less itching, shinier coats & improved energy

What’s REALLY interesting is they believe the bone broth acted almost like a natural prebiotic — feeding beneficial bacteria in the gut microbiome 🦠💚

Hi, I’m Lou 😊

You’ll usually find me in our Chelmsford store with Lola — keeping everything stocked up, organised and busy 💚 I hate standing still, so I’m always doing something 😂🐾

I absolutely love big dogs, especially Staffies and Mastiffs.

🐾 At home I’ve got:

🐕 Stellios — my VERY fussy 70kg Mastiff 😂
🐶 Pig— my blue Staffy allergy girl 💚

Stellios absolutely thrives on chunks and heart ❤️

Heart is amazing for larger dogs — packed with nutrients and brilliant support for heart health. He also loves big bones and usually drags his favourite chunks off to the trampoline to eat them 😂

Pig has always struggled with itchy skin and allergies, but one thing that’s made a HUGE difference for her has been *colostrum*✨

I honestly love herbal and natural remedies — I still can’t believe how much her coat improved and how her hair grew back after starting colostrum 💚

That’s one thing I’m really passionate about helping with:

I truly believe there’s always something we can try to help improve things 🐾✨

All Raw goodies for Alfie Moon from Rover's Maldon Dog Rescue🐾💚

Kay from Raw Made Simple came in with gorgeous rescue boy Alfie Moon — and honestly, he stole a few hearts while he was here.

A couple of people were absolutely smitten with him and nearly adopted him there and then, so if you’re reading this… pop over to Rovers Dog Rescue and have a little look at Alfie Moon. I don’t think this lovely boy will be waiting around for long 🥹🐶

Alfie has been struggling to put on weight (you can see all his ribs and spine) so we’ve donated him some liquid sheep fat, which is a great calorie-dense topper to help add extra energy to his meals and support healthy weight gain.

We’ve also sent him off with some Tummy Tastic to help support his digestion and gut health while he builds himself back up 💚

He has such a lovely temperament — gentle, sweet, and very easy to fall in love with.
