🤓🤓FACT FRIDAY 🤓🤓

Did you know the temperature of
hydrotherapy pool is really important ? 🌡️

For canine hydrotherapy, the water must be kept between 28 and 32°C. This range is a ideal therapeutic range that helps to support muscles and joints. 👌🏻

If the water drops below 28°C 🥶 it can cause muscles to tighten and go into spasms making movement less comfortable and can cause arthritic flareups in the joints.

If the water goes above 32°C? 🌡️ it’s can cause heat exhaustion and cardiovascular strain

This is why we carefully monitor the pool temperature daily helping each dog stay safe, comfortable and happy. 🏊‍♂️🐶

🐾 MEET MILLIE! 💕🐶

This gorgeous girl is Millie, who has been coming to see us for hydrotherapy after being diagnosed with mild degenerative joint disease affecting her hind limbs.

Hydrotherapy gives Millie a controlled way to exercise, helping her maintain muscle strength, mobility, weight and joint movement, while reducing the impact placed through her joints. 💦🦴

But Millie is also a great example of why prevention and early intervention can be so important.

When it comes to our dogs, we don’t always have to wait until they’re struggling before we start thinking about their strength, fitness and mobility.

Because we’d much rather keep those tails wagging than wait until they’re telling us something is wrong! 🐾

Keep them strong. Keep them moving. Keep them happy. 💜

Did you know that elbow dysplasia is one of the most common causes of front leg lameness in dogs? 🐾

Elbow dysplasia is a condition where the elbow joint doesn’t develop correctly, leading to abnormal wear and tear within the joint. Over time, this can cause pain, inflammation and osteoarthritis.

Signs to look out for include:
🐶 Limping or lameness in the front legs
🐶 Stiffness, especially after rest
🐶 Difficulty getting up or lying down
🐶 Reluctance to exercise or play
🐶 A “head bobbing gait when walking or running

Treatment options may include weight management, pain relief, surgery and rehabilitation therapies such as hydrotherapy.

Hydrotherapy can be particularly beneficial as the buoyancy of the water reduces pressure on painful joints while allowing dogs to exercise safely. The warm water can also help relax muscles, improve range of motion and build muscle strength to better support the affected joints. 💦

Early diagnosis and management can make a huge difference in helping dogs stay comfortable, active and enjoying life.

If you think your dog could benefit from hydrotherapy and rehabilitation after an elbow dysplasia diagnosis please get in contact on 01702 808812 or [email protected]

🐾 Bailey! 🐾

We would LOVE for you all to meet Bailey, this very handsome 4-year-old Rottweiler! 🖤🤎

Bailey has now had three sessions with us after being diagnosed with bilateral elbow dysplasia.

His sessions are aimed at helping to increase muscle mass, improve his range of motion and support his overall mobility. 💪

And as you can see from the video, Bailey absolutely LOVES his time in the pool! 😍💦

We can’t wait to see how he continues to progress! 🐾👏

💦🐶 The benefits of an underwater treadmill for dogs! 🐶💦

Did you know an underwater treadmill can be a fantastic tool for dogs recovering from injury, managing certain conditions, or simply looking to improve their fitness? 🐾

💧 Buoyancy reduces weight-bearing
The water helps support your dog’s body, reducing pressure and impact on painful or recovering joints.

💪 Builds strength & muscle
Walking against the resistance of the water encourages muscles to work harder, helping to improve strength and stability.

🦴 Supports joint mobility
The warm water can help relax muscles and make movement easier, allowing dogs to work through a greater range of motion.

❤️ Improves cardiovascular fitness
The resistance of the water provides a great workout while allowing us to control the intensity of the exercise.

⚖️ Aids weight management
It’s a low-impact way to help overweight dogs exercise safely while taking some pressure off their joints.

🏥 Useful during rehabilitation
Underwater treadmill work can be incorporated into rehabilitation programmes for a range of orthopaedic and neurological conditions, as well as pre- and post-operative recovery.

🐕 And it’s not just for dogs who are injured!
Healthy dogs can also benefit from controlled underwater treadmill sessions to improve fitness, strength and conditioning.

At Moredge Hydrotherapy Centre, every session is tailored to the individual dog and their specific needs. 💙
