Puppy introductions!!

It’s always best to start your pup on their grooming journey from the very beginning, once they’ve had their injections and are cleared for walkies… then they can come in for their first introductory sessions!

This little lady has had her bath and dry and LOTS of cuddles! It helps them to adjust to the sights and sounds of the salon and to start to build a relationship and learn to trust their groomer!

Sometimes it will take more than one bathing session before they are ready to be introduced to the clippers etc, but that’s ok, the key thing is not to scare them off of grooming, we want them to enjoy the process and most of all, I want them to trust me!

Have you got a new pup that will need regular grooming? Get in touch to get booked in! 🐾

I’m just going to share this again because…. Yep it’s that time of year again! Grass seed season!! Keep checking for these after walks folks! Your dog, your purse and even your vet will thank you for it….

And so it begins….

With all the lovely weather, it’s that famous time of year again for dog owners…

WELCOME TO GRASS SEED SEASON!

Just your little helpful reminder to check your dogs after a walk… feet (between the toes and under the pads are the big ones… but all over in general helps), armpits and ears are the most common places we find these little bad boys… but I’ve seen them embedded all over before now.

Make sure to remove any you can find, please have a good search, because these “innocent” looking things can land you with expensive vet bills if they puncture the skin and embed themselves far enough they can travel beneath skin and cause all sorts of problems and worst case scenario even death….

So PLEASE….. don’t forget to check for grass seeds!

Thanks all xx 🐾

Just a little insight into what can happen after active heatstroke kicks in…. Remember, dogs can’t regulate their temperature the way we do through sweating. Please keep your dogs safe in this weather. Only walk them in the cool very early morning or late evening, keep them out of the sunshine, sometimes it’s as small as letting them sit in the garden for a short period of time that can set them off… stay safe everyone! Let’s hope normal and cooler service resumes next week! 🐾 ☀️

An update on yesterdays heatstroke dog.

Well firstly he’s alive! Thank goodness. Let me tell you the whole process of heat and our dogs…

When dogs overheat they use a lot of glucose in the act of cooling themselves and therefore need sugar! We actively cool them and stop at 39.5c to avoid hypothermia. But even with this the gut takes a massive hit.

For this dog bacteria leaked from the gut into the blood stream. The result was sepsis that kicked in around 90 minutes of returning to a more normal temperature.

The fight is firstly to control the body temperature and stop the brain from literally frying. Then it’s a fight to control sepsis in these severe cases.

Well after a lot of work from multiple vets and nurses he is looking like he’ll live to tell the tale. Such an unlucky dog to be put in that situation in the first place, but such a lucky one to have survived it.

KEEP THEM SAFE PLEASE!

Such handsome boys…
