A hill I will die on!!

If you wait until your puppy is 6 months old or more, they are far more likely to be scared of professional grooming

Introduce them from a young as possible and also prepare at home. Bath them from as soon as you have them and use the hair dryer. You can even run an electric toothbrush handle over their body to get them used to the sensation of clippers

I cannot stress enough, how beneficial it is for your pup to introduce them to professional grooming, in the right way, from as young as possible.

Make it a normal part of life as soon as you can and your puppy will thank you for it 🤎

How do I groom dogs without using restraints?

It’s about using whatever motivates the individual dog to do things by choice

It’s about building trust

It’s about giving the dog freedom so that they don’t fear coming for a professional groom because they will be restrained in one place when they are scared

All dogs are different. I like to get to know what works to motivate that dog and listen to them when they tell me they aren’t comfortable with something. We can then work together to make the experience more comfortable and less scary for them

This works for me and my often very anxious clients, many who come to me already terrified of grooming

All groomers are different. It’s about finding the right groomer for your individual dog. Sticking with a groomer your dog feels happy and safe with, is always best

Holistic grooming is about reading a dog’s signals and acting accordingly rather than just ploughing on with whatever it is that YOU want to happen

I wasn’t sure that Winnie was ever going to relax fully for grooming but on his last 2 visits his progress has even surprised me

It just goes to show that there are no limits to what can be overcome when you listen to what the dog in front of you is telling you and build trust before anything else

Well done Winnie I’m so proud of you and I’m sure your mum and dad are too 🤎

Dog grooming is by no means just cuddling dogs all day. It’s actually an incredibly physically and mentally demanding profession to be in.

Burn out rates are very high across the industry, mainly due to prices being too low yet expectations high. Most people have no idea the level of skill needed to perform this job well

The cuddles are the best bit, the perk and the thing that makes us all to keep going 🤎
