We love working with people and dogs www.thefamilydogclub.co.uk

A family run business, Gavin and Jeanette, we are both fully qualified dog trainers, and Jeanette a behaviourist, we only use kind, reward based methods to train dogs. Helping you to enjoy your dogs is what our job is all about. We work with both owners and dogs to resolve and understand any behavioural issues they may have, to help

them feel more confident and secure and to give owners the confidence they need to train their dogs. Training dogs isn’t all about obedience, its about having a strong relationship with your dog whereby they want to work with you. We are all about having fun, and want owners to enjoy the experience as much as the dogs too. We work with a wide range of dogs and issues owners are having. We also train a lot of dogs for fun, to give them enriched lives, and in turn their owners. Behaviour Consultations are required when we need to change the behaviour of the dog and when we need to work in conjunction with a vet to look at various options of diet changes, herbal medicines, or in some cases pharmacology, to help improve the dogs life. We put some management practices in place along with a training plan, we will also look to have regular catch ups to discuss their progress, as well as on-going support.

1-2-1 Consultations -

For Training, Reactive Dogs and dogs that are aroused by the environment we offer 1-2-1 consultations here in our field, we discuss with you what could be going on and look to help you understand your dog in terms of body language, threshold, environments etc. We then work through with you what you are able to do to help your dog and reduce the behaviour or help to build their confidence. We also offer 1/2 hour social sessions with selected dogs to help your dogs to learn how to play confidently and politely with other dogs. We run a number of classes through-out the week, with 3 classes on a Saturday, regular Sunday classes, Monday and Wednesday night classes. Missy attaches herself to me when I’m in the home.

But she’s fine being left alone, how about your dogs? Do they like to be with you all the time in the home? Are they ok being left alone?

Public health notice – Langdown Stream, Hythe

The Langdown Stream, which runs from Dibden Purlieu through Foxtail Drive and Dukeswood Drive down to the Shore Road recreation ground, has been found to have dangerously high E.coli levels. Testing near Dukeswood Drive recorded readings of 21 and 35 times the safe bathing limit.

The water looks clear, but it isn’t safe. Please don’t let dogs drink from the stream or children play in it.

I’m still gathering results from other testers and will report the full data set to the Environment Agency as soon as it’s complete. My pooches Scarlett and Marty are being kept well away.

As of now puppy classes and other classes are still on today!

For puppies there is the option of a zoom tomorrow evening if you’d prefer.

At the moment it’s raining but it’s not currently too heavy!

For many dogs the holidays are a time of big changes to normal routines, along with the crazy weather we have been having lots of dogs are more trigger stacked than normal.

Changes in routine can mean less sleep or rest for our dogs, less predictability of whats coming next, when the next walk is, the next interaction etc. All of this can impact our dogs behaviour.

With any behaviour change, especially if aggression is playing a part its always important to get a vet check.

But if your dog is ok health wise and you're seeing more:

Barking at noises
Less settled
More hyper activity
Digging
Chewing

It could be your dog is trigger stacked.

If this is the case I would recommend factoring in some quiet time for them where they can get plenty of undisturbed rest.
Do some training with them, get their brains working.
Reduce high arousal playtime
Increase enrichment - give them things to problem solve, if you have kids get them to make some enrichment toys for your dogs out of recycling.

Hope this helps!
