Adelaide Veterinary Centre We provide professional care for precious paws in Southampton, and we have been doing so since 1985.

Adelaide Veterinary Centre in Southampton have five experienced small animal vets, aided by a team of nurses and receptionists. We provide all of the services needed to keep your pet fit and well, from food and toys to ultrasound, digital x-rays and surgery.

*Appointment Reminders*

Whilst we hope our electronic appointment reminder system is helpful in keeping on top of your routine appointments and treatment schedules, we have found that there can be occasional times where reminders have not been sent.

We would like to remind our clients that the appointment reminder system is a complimentary service and should not be relied upon solely to keep on top of your appointments with us.

We will of course look into those occasions where there seems to be an ongoing problem but would urge you to make a note of your appointment times when booking and our lovely reception team remain available to confirm these with you at any time.

HOT WEATHER HELP! 🫠

💦Wet then vet = how you deal with a dog suffering from heatstroke.
Quickly wet the dog with cold water or as close as you can get (not
freezing cold). If not available, any water that is cooler than the dog’s skin
feels.

💦Cool water is ideal, but any water will help. If you only have soft drinks,
ensure they don't contain xylitol, and avoid pouring them on the dog's
head. Wetting the dog will promote cooling through evaporation. Do this
before taking them to the vet but don't spend too much time on it.

💦Afterward, contact the vet and inform them about the situation and how
long it will take you to arrive. This allows the vet's team to prepare for your
dog's arrival and increases their chances of receiving prompt treatment.

💦Avoid using wet towels on the dog as they can trap heat. However,
specialised cooling vests that function through evaporation are suitable.

remember that the pavement can be scorching
hot for our furry friends' paws

🐾If you can't hold the back of your hand to
the pavement for 5-7 seconds, it's too hot for
your dog's delicate paws.

🐾Protecting your pet's paws is key during the
summer months. Opt for walks during cooler
times of the day and stick to grassy areas where
possible.
