🐾☀️ Hot Weather & Dog Safety ☀️🐾

As temperatures rise, please remember that our dogs cope with heat very differently to us. What feels “warm” to us can quickly become dangerous for them.

🐶 A few important reminders:
• Avoid walking during the hottest parts of the day — early morning or late evening is safest.
• Pavements can burn paws incredibly quickly. If you can’t comfortably hold your hand on it for 5 seconds, it’s too hot for paws.
• Always provide access to fresh, cool water and shaded areas.
• Never leave dogs in cars — even for “just a few minutes.”
• Watch for signs of overheating: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, wobbling, or collapse.
• Flat-faced breeds, elderly dogs, puppies, and overweight dogs are especially vulnerable in the heat.

✂️ Grooming can also help keep your dog comfortable during warmer weather, but remember — a dog’s coat also protects them from sunburn and overheating, so shaving isn’t always the answer. A good de-shed and tidy can make a huge difference while still protecting the skin.

🧠 Heat can affect behaviour too. Dogs may become more tired, irritable, overwhelmed, or reactive when they’re uncomfortable and struggling in the heat. Please be patient with them and adjust expectations during hot weather.

There are so many fun ways to keep dogs enriched without long hot walks:
💦 Paddling pools
🧊 Frozen treats
🐾 Snuffle games
🦴 Lick mats
🌳 Shady enrichment sessions
🏡 Indoor training and scent work

Stay safe, stay cool, and give your dogs an extra cuddle from me today ❤️🐾

🐾 Meet Leo – The Little Dog with the Biggest Heart! 💛

Say hello to Leo, a gorgeous 8-year-old terrier mix who’s looking for his forever home. Don’t let his age fool you — this boy has energy to spare! He loves a good run around the garden, a cuddle on the sofa, and being right by your side for all of life’s adventures.

Leo was born with a deformed front paw, and although he has a small ongoing wound on the pad, it doesn’t slow him down one bit. He’s a happy little hopper, running and jumping with a huge grin on his face! 🐕💨
We’ll be trying a special boot to help protect his paw outdoors and keep him comfortable.

He’s:
💛 Sweet-natured and affectionate
🏃‍♂️ Active and playful, loves walks and zoomies
🐶 Good with other dogs when introduced properly
🏡 Crate trained and enjoys his cosy den
👧 Best suited to a home with older or calm children (he can be a bit excitable!)
🐱 Not cat tested

Sadly, Leo came into our care after his elderly owner moved into a care facility following a hospital stay. He’s been with us just over a month and has settled beautifully.

Right now, we’re gathering interest from potential adopters while things are finalised for his previous owner. If you think you could offer Leo the love, security, and fun he deserves, we’d love to hear from you.

📩 Please get in touch to register your interest or ask any questions — Leo is ready to brighten someone’s world!
