💙 Happy 4th Birthday to our beautiful boy Brodie! 💙

I can still remember so clearly when we went to pick you up ready for you to begin your new life with us, Kobi and Bonnie.

Daddy kept asking to get a second dog and I kept saying no because I didn't want Kobi to feel pushed out. And then you arrived my boy and I wondered why I'd waited so long because you were the best company for little Kobes. But there must have been a reason we didn't do it sooner - because it had to be you 🫶🏼

You are the sweetest, gentlest, most beautiful soul I've ever known. You were the best little brother to Kobi - you both just warmed to each other instantly. You shy away from Bonnie even though she's smaller than you 🤭 And when Soks arrived in our family, you took to him immediately and have become not only brothers, but the best of friends too!

Daddy, Soks and I love you so, so much (and I'm sure Bonnie secretly does too 😉). Thank you for keeping me going when I felt so lost after losing Kobi.

I wish you the bestest of birthdays my beautiful, gorgeous Brodes! 💙

Happy Heavenly Birthday to my Kobi Bear 🤍

Small Paws Outdoors exists because of this special little Pomeranian, who would have been 15 years old today 🥹

Kobi, you are still the driving force behind the business and even though you're not here physically now, you still manage to guide every direction I take.

You will always live on through me and Daddy, Brodie, Soks, Bonnie and all your friends you knew and who still walk with us today.

We love you Kobes 🤍🤍🤍🤍

🌡️☀️ Heatwave Update ☀️🌡️

With the warmer weather making a return this week, I'll be keeping a close eye on the forecast and will keep everyone updated if any changes to the usual schedule are needed to keep your pups safe and comfortable.

I've already been in touch with some of you individually regarding this week's arrangements and will continue to keep everyone informed each day if any changes are needed.

As always, your pets' welfare comes first. Thank you for trusting me to make the safest decisions for them. 🐾❤️

This!! ❤️

One thing dog walkers never want to do is cancel walks. We know how important routine, exercise and enrichment are, and we hate letting both dogs and owners down.

However, when temperatures climb, our priority has to be the dogs’ welfare. Heatstroke can develop quickly and even fit, healthy dogs can struggle in hot weather. Sometimes the best decision is to swap walks for shorter sessions, home visits or, if necessary, cancel altogether.

No dog walker enjoys sending those messages or making those calls, but keeping dogs safe will always come before sticking to the schedule.

They will be another time for get the teams working!💙🐾

So important. I've shared posts about this before, but am sharing again!

As you all know, on Wednesday evening, Tucci managed to get hold of some chewing gum (Wrigley’s extra strawberry sugar free) that my stepson had dropped on the floor. At the time, I googled “how much xylitol is toxic to dogs” expecting to find a toxicity calculator, like the one for chocolate. Turns out there is NO SAFE AMOUNT of xylitol for dogs. It’s ALWAYS an emergency situation!!

If I hadn’t taken him to the vets. He could have died.

T H E F A C T S

Many people are unaware that an ingredient commonly found in sugar-free chewing gum, mints, sweets, toothpaste, some peanut butters and other “sugar-free” products can be highly toxic to dogs.

That ingredient is xylitol. It may also be listed on packaging as birch sugar or by its food additive number, E967.

Whilst xylitol is safe for people, it can cause a rapid release of insulin in dogs, leading to a sudden and potentially life-threatening drop in blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia). Symptoms can develop within as little as 10–60 minutes and may include:

🐾 Vomiting
🐾 Weakness or lethargy
🐾 Staggering or loss of coordination
🐾 Tremors
🐾 Seizures
🐾 Collapse

In some cases, xylitol poisoning can also lead to severe liver damage or liver failure.

Even a small amount can be dangerous, particularly for smaller dogs. As different products contain varying amounts of xylitol, there is no reliable way to judge whether an ingested amount is safe.

W H A T T O D O

If you think your dog may have eaten a product containing xylitol, birch sugar or E967:

🚨 Contact your vet immediately.
🚨 If your practice is closed, phone your nearest emergency veterinary service without delay.
🚨 Do not wait for symptoms to appear.

The safest approach is to check ingredient labels carefully and keep all sugar-free gum, sweets and other products containing xylitol well out of your dog’s reach.

Something as seemingly harmless as a piece of chewing gum can become a vet emergency in a matter of hours.

Please share this post to help raise awareness and help keep dogs safe 💚

When someone tells you there's a heatwave coming... ☀️🌡️

I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but it's safe to say the threat of warmer temperatures this week prompted me into action! 🤣

Transporting the Small Paws Outdoors gang safely and comfortably is always one of my priorities. I already have the bulkhead cut out so the air con can help keep temperatures cool, and there's an electric fan installed above the crates to provide a nice cool breeze during the warmer months.

But, as many of you know, this is me and I can't rest... 🤔🤣

So, onto the next project: insulating sections of the metal roof to help keep heat out and make the ventilation even more efficient.

Istead of relaxing, this is what my Sunday afternoon looked like! 🤔🤭👌🏼

Dog walkers and visitors are being warned about a potentially toxic blue green algae bloom affecting parts of the River Hamble.

Following an alert from the Environment Agency, we're advising members of the public to avoid any contact with the water until further notice. Dog owners in particular are urged to prevent their pets from entering or drinking from the water.

Blue green algae can produce harmful toxins that may pose risks to both humans and animals. https://www.eastleigh.gov.uk/latest-news/toxic-algae-bloom-warning-for-river-hamble
