BREAKING NEWS!

Andy Burnham has vowed to make dog poo bag rolls square, in a bold plan to end one of Britain's most annoying park problems. Week 3 in Sunderland 🐾

Our Sunderland puppies were back tonight and ready to get stuck into their games after last week's Confidence Week! 🐶

We continued building on the foundations from our previous sessions, helping our puppies develop skills that will make everyday life easier for both them and their owners.

🐾 Bed Shaping - Teaching our puppies to choose to go to their bed, and encourage them to problem solve for themselves.

🐾 Find My - Face Encouraging our puppies to move to be able to check in with their owners and build engagement.

🐾 Impulse control - Helping puppies learn to pause and make good choices.

🐾 Heel position - Introducing the position we want our puppies to be in when walking with us, laying the foundations for loose lead walking.

🐾 Toy play - Teaching owners how to play tug safely, using play to build engagement and strengthen their relationship with their puppy.

✈️ Airplane - We also revisited this fantastic calming game, helping puppies slow down and bring their excitement levels back down. Learning to move between excitement and calm is such an important life skill!

We also explored two things we can start teaching now to help with loose lead walking: voluntary check ins and voluntary loose leads. By rewarding puppies for choosing to engage with us and keeping the lead loose, we can build good habits long before expecting them to manage the distractions of a walk.

🏠 This week's homework

🐾 Practise all the games, starting in low distraction environments before gradually building up the distractions.

🐾 Practise your loose lead exercises around the house and garden with your puppy wearing their walking equipment. This gives you the chance to teach the position and reward those voluntary check ins without the added excitement of being outside.

Remember, keep sessions short, fun and rewarding. We're building strong foundations one little step at a time!

New Sunderland Puppy Graduates 🎓🐾

Another puppy journey has come to an end, and what a lovely group of characters we've had the pleasure of spending time with! ❤️

In week 6, we revisited our favourite games, including bed games and adding in distance, duration and distractions, Toy Switch, recall, and loose lead walking, alongside our nose to tail health checks. But this graduation is all about celebrating these five wonderful puppies and their individual personalities!

🐾 Dottie

Small in size but BIG in personality! 😆 Dottie picked up our games brilliantly and showed us that being little doesn't mean being invisible. This girl has a presence all of her own!

🐾 Murphy

Our energetic boy, full of enthusiasm and always ready to get involved! Murphy picked things up quickly and has done brilliantly channeling all that energy into learning.

🐾 Brobbey

Brobbey was a newly vaccinated baby when he first joined us in week one, and he's picked everything up brilliantly. I'll especially miss his little Superman flops when he lies down. 🦸‍♂️ Those deserve a certificate of their own!

🐾 Nico

In week one, we were figuring out how to encourage Nico to lie down and settle. Fast forward to week six, and he was confidently ignoring distractions around him. What a lovely example of what patience and practice can achieve!

🐾 Ralph

Our clever Spaniel who has done brilliantly with the games. Ralph certainly knows how to make friends, especially when there's a belly rub on offer! And naturally, I was more than happy to oblige. 😂❤️

I'm genuinely going to miss this group, both the puppies and their wonderful guardians. It's been a privilege to watch these personalities shine and see the bonds you're building together.

Congratulations to our newest graduates! Be proud of how far you've come, keep having fun and remember, this is only the beginning of your adventures together. 🎓🐾❤️

Our new website is live!

I originally built our old website around 8 years ago, it had all the bells and whistles on and cost tens of thousands to build.

Gradually as time went on, one thing after another broke beyond simple repair. So it was time for a new one.

Now, I loved the original design, so that hasn’t changed too much. But now, the full client dashboard is returning!

All in all, the new website is considerably quicker, smoother and more user friendly.

On our new website:

- You can book puppy classes and see ALL class dates, not just the starting date.
- The Login Dashboard now shows all booked dates and allows rescheduling of calls and 1:1s with ease.
- Access discount codes
- Access The Dog Training Academy in its brand new HUB space*
- Access Puppy Class Theory and Videos directly*
- Easily manage subscriptions*
- We can update is WAY easier.

If you had a login on the old site, you will need to resign up, but it will read your existing data still.

If you are an Academy member and don’t have access to the new Hub yet, simply login to the new site, complete the form on the top and you’ll get access within seconds.

Puppy class videos are still being finished off, should be live tomorrow/monday.

Apologies for any delays, but we are nearly there. Annoyingly, I assumed that we would be able to retain the old academy in the moving process, but it hasn’t worked out that way.

🐾 Another lovely day of 1:1 sessions! 🐾

Today we had three wonderful dogs to work with, each on their own training journey, with lots of lovely foundations being built and progress to celebrate! ❤️

🐶 First up, Sadie!

We headed to Jarrow for our first session with Sadie and her lovely guardians. They wanted support with loose lead walking, recall and helping Sadie resist the temptation to chase wildlife when out and about.

Today was all about building those foundations, creating engagement with her guardians, introducing loose lead walking and recall skills, and starting some impulse control work that will come in handy as we progress through our sessions.

🐾 Next, we stayed in Jarrow to see Yuki the Samoyed!

Yuki is already making some great progress with his loose lead walking, showing some lovely check-ins with his guardians. 🥰

We discussed making his pre-walk routine less exciting, as all that anticipation can contribute to his excitement levels before he even gets outside! We also talked about the importance of consistency from everyone he comes into contact with to help him understand what's expected.

We then continued building on his loose lead walking and the engagement skills he's already developing. It's lovely to see those little moments of connection growing! ❤️

🐕 Finally, we were back in Sunderland to see the playful Artie!

Artie is working on loose lead walking, recall and settling in the car, and he's already making some great progress with his recall.

During our first session, we discovered just how much he loves movement, so today we introduced a new game using his toys as a reward for coming back to his guardians. Making training fun and working with what our dogs love can make such a difference!

We also built on his loose lead walking skills, with some lovely moments of Artie checking in with his guardians along the way. 🥰

Three lovely dogs, three different journeys, and lots of little wins!❤️

Well done to Sadie, Yuki, Artie and their guardians. I can't wait to see how everyone gets on before our next sessions!

🐾 WHAT A BRILLIANT WEEK 2 IN SOUTH SHIELDS! 🐾
Our South Shields Super Pups were back in action for Week 2, and they did a fantastic job leveling up their skills! We introduced some brand-new concepts and watched some serious puppy focus in action. Here is what our clever pups tackled in class:
🛏️ Bed Shaping: The pups worked on choosing to go to their beds all on their own. This is such a valuable foundation game for teaching dogs to switch off at home, settle when visitors arrive, or relax quietly while you enjoy a pint at the local pub!

🧀 Building Impulse Control: We introduced the concept of leaving food placed on the floor without even having to ask them to leave it. This is the key skill that stops pups from jumping up, stealing off plates, or rushing over to every distraction outdoors!

👀 Find My Face: Taking our eye contact a step further by getting the puppies to actively move around and search for their guardian's face—our first big building block for loose-leash walking!

🚶♂️ The Heel Position: We introduced the sweet spot right by the guardian’s side, teaching the pups to be mindful of human movement so walking together becomes second nature.

🧸 Intro to Toy Play: Practicing gentle, controlled tug games to build relationship, channel natural drive, and create an exciting non-food reward for training!

🌟 Confidence Week in Sunderland!🐾

This evening, both our Sunderland puppy classes explored a range of fun activities designed to build confidence, curiosity and optimism, all at their own pace. 💛

Here’s what our little stars got up to:

🐾 Agility equipment – building body awareness and confidence in movement. We might have some agility stars in the making! ⭐

🌈 Confidence path – exploring new obstacles, surfaces and textures.

⚽️ Ball pit – getting to grips with unusual and moving surfaces.

🧩 Snuffle mats, puzzles & scentwork – encouraging problem-solving and independent thinking.

📦 Cardboard chaos – investigating new sights, sounds and textures.

🐶 Muzzle training – building positive associations with a valuable life skill.

🐾 Paws up – developing coordination and confidence when interacting with objects.

The most important part? Every puppy had the freedom to explore at their own pace, with choice, encouragement and plenty of little wins along the way. Because confidence isn't about being the bravest in the room; it's about feeling safe enough to give something new a try 🐾

🐾 Another lovely day of 1:1 sessions! 🐾

Today we had three wonderful dogs to catch up with, each working on their own goals, with lots of little wins along the way. ❤️

🐶 First up was Enzo the Groenendael

Enzo joined us for puppy class, and his guardians wanted some additional support at home with calmness, jumping up at visitors, mouthing and loose lead walking.

Today, for session 1, we focused on building the foundations for calmness, looking at the importance of sleep, capturing those moments when Enzo chooses to settle, and introducing calming enrichment activities. Sometimes, helping our puppies learn to switch off is just as important as teaching them what we do want them to do!

🐾 Next, we were back to see Charlie the Mini Goldendoodle!

Charlie has been working on his reactivity, and he's made some lovely progress. Today, during session 3, we took a short walk to work around his triggers and put everything we've been learning into practice.

There were some really lovely moments of Charlie checking back in with his guardians after spotting a trigger, alongside a great response to his marker word. These little moments are so important and worth celebrating! ❤️

Charlie also decided to audition for the role of professional treat thief, making several attempts to get his head into my treat bag! 😂

🐕 Last but not least, Luna the Golden Retriever!

Today was Luna's second session, working towards her guardians' goals of loose lead walking, recall and feeling calmer around visitors.

Her loose lead walking is already coming along nicely and feeling much more manageable. We also worked on building calmness around visitors and making her pre-walk routine a little less exciting. Small changes can make a real difference to how our dogs feel and behave throughout the day. 💛

All three dogs did brilliantly today, and it's lovely to see their guardians putting in the work to help them feel more comfortable and confident in everyday life.

A huge well done to Enzo, Charlie, Luna and their guardians! 🐾

I can't wait to see how they all get on before our next sessions. ❤️
