🐾 Trainer Development Day at Pennywell Community Centre 🐾

Our Development Days are all about giving trainers the opportunity to build their skills, gain hands-on experience, and continue developing their knowledge in real-life training situations.

Today, one of our puppy class instructors, Fiona, had the chance to take the lead in a series of 1:1 sessions with three lovely pups and their owners. Together, they worked on skills including recall, focus, drop, and managing excitement around other dogs.

These sessions are a great opportunity for trainers to put their learning into practice, build confidence, and gain experience working with a variety of dogs, personalities, and training goals.

A huge thank you to the owners who came along and supported the day. Your willingness to get involved helps create valuable learning opportunities for our trainers and strengthens our wonderful dog community.

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting all three pups and look forward to seeing their progress in the future! 🐶❤️

🐾 Watching Confidence Grow One Week at a Time 🐾

Another fantastic evening with our Monday night puppies in Sunderland, and we’re now at the halfway point of the course. It’s been lovely seeing both pups and guardians becoming more confident and building stronger partnerships each week.

Tonight was all about adding new layers to the skills we’ve already introduced, helping our puppies learn that training is fun, rewarding, and something to enjoy together.

We introduced Hand Touch, a simple game with so many practical uses. From improving recall, to helping guide your puppy through different situations, it’s one of those skills that becomes useful in everyday life more often than people expect.

We also started putting more meaning behind behaviours by introducing the “Bed” cue, building from the settling and bed games we’ve been practising over previous sessions. Watching puppies choose calm behaviours is always one of our favourite things to see.

Our pups were also introduced to the “Leave” cue, helping them start learning that making good choices around tempting things can really pay off.

Recall skills got another workout too, with games designed to keep puppies engaged and wanting to come back to their owners, even when the environment becomes more exciting.

We finished the evening with some “Drunk Walking”, helping owners and puppies begin building the foundations for future loose lead walking success, and then how to transition into the heel position from this game.

The progress this group is making each week is brilliant to watch, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to develop over the rest of the course 💛🐶

Another wonderful puppy class came to an end in Sunderland tonight as we celebrated our latest puppy graduates completing their 6 week journey with us. 🎓🐾

Our final session focused on health checks, helping owners feel more confident checking over their dogs from nose to tail and understanding what is normal for their individual puppy, and when to seek support from a vet.

We also put the finishing touches on our bed games, building in more distance, duration and distractions. The puppies took it all in their stride, despite their guardians pulling out every distraction technique imaginable. I think some of the distraction moves definitely deserve a special mention!

Toy Switch made an appearance too, giving everyone a chance to have fun while continuing to build those important skills around “drop” and engagement.

We then moved onto recall games, keeping things fun, rewarding and unpredictable for our puppies. One of my favourite moments from tonight was seeing one puppy recalled beautifully into middle, showing just how much learning has happened over the last 6 weeks.

To finish, we wrapped up with our final loose lead walking exercises, gradually reducing food rewards as the puppies became more confident in the position. Very proud teacher moment seeing both puppies with lovely smiley leads.

I am incredibly proud of each puppy for the progress they have made, but equally proud of the guardians who have shown up each week, put the work in at home and supported their puppies through every success and challenge along the way. Watching those relationships grow is always the best part.

I am going to miss working with these puppies and their guardians, but I cannot wait to see where their journeys go next.

Congratulations to our latest graduates on your very well earned certificates and medals. 🎓🐾

📱CURRENT PUPPY CLASS CLIENTS: Keep an eye on your phone! 👀

All of our current puppy class clients should have received an exciting text message today about a special opportunity coming up on our Dog Trainer Development Day! 🐾

There are only a handful of places available, so if you’re one of the lucky ones that received the text and are interested, we’d recommend taking a look sooner rather than later.

We can’t wait to see some of you for an extra special session! 🐶❤️

🧠 South Shields Puppy School: Confidence Week Highlights!

🐾Building brave, optimistic, and bulletproof puppies!
This week at our South Shields venue, we stepped away from standard obedience cues to focus on the absolute bedrock of a well-adjusted adult dog: Environmental Confidence. Just like human children, introducing puppies to novel sights, textures, and sounds at a young age supercharges their optimism, develops excellent motor skills, and teaches them how to problem-solve through confusion or fear. Building this "grit" now is what prevents common adult behaviour struggles like lead-lunging, over-excitement, or ignoring your recall out in the real world!

Penultimate class of the course tonight for our second Sunderland puppy class on a Monday evening 🐾

As we move towards the end of the course, we start putting those foundation skills to the test by adding a little more challenge.

This week we introduced “paw”, not just a cute trick, but a really useful skill for nail trims, drying muddy paws, and checking for injuries.

We also built on last week’s “leave” cue, increasing the difficulty by working around food on the floor while handlers stayed standing. Our pups showed some serious self control.

We then moved onto teaching “drop”, another incredibly important skill that could one day help keep our dogs safe.

To keep recalls fun, we played a round of “What’s This?”, before finishing with some lovely loose lead walking practice.

Watching the progress these pups are making each week is brilliant, but what stands out most is the effort and consistency the owners are putting in at home, it really shows.

Next week is graduation week for this class. These pups have grown so much in skill and in size from week 1, I can't wait to see how they put everything they've learned to the test next week 🐶✨

Week 2 for our newest puppy recruits at our Sunderland class 🐾

After joining us just before the bank holiday break, it was lovely to welcome our newest recruits back tonight for week 2, and they came back ready to learn!

This week we continued building on the settle position introduced in week 1, helping our puppies learn how to relax on their beds and settle calmly.

We also introduced some impulse control games, teaching the puppies to leave food when presented with it. A hugely important skill that helps build thoughtful decision making and self control.

We introduced the heel position, the foundations for our loose lead walking, and we also built further on our eye contact game too, strengthening focus and engagement between puppies and their owners.

And finally, we finished with toy play 🧸 Teaching both puppies and owners how to use tug safely and effectively, turning playtime into a fun learning opportunity and another way to build those all important relationships.

For puppies who had a little break after only one session, they all came back and absolutely smashed it tonight. It’s also clear their owners have been putting the work in at home 👏

Well done everyone, we can’t wait to see what week 3 brings 🐶
