🐕 CARRICK NAILED IT 🐕

I’ve been a bit rubbish with posting recently, but I’m here working with dogs non-stop!

Hopefully, I can get back to share some results, give you people out there with dogs a bit of hope that things can change. And with a bit of help, we can fix some of your problems.

Today, we had our final session with Carrick. Carrick is a black Russian terrier. When you get to know him, he’s actually a really lovely dog.

Can be a little bit growly when you first meet him and a bit guardy, but that is exactly what a black Russian terrier is meant to be. They are police and army dogs from Russia at the end of the day.

He originally struggled with other dogs where he would really fixate on them. If they would bark at him, he’d be barking and lunging back.

He would have a really good stare from quite far away, and then he would wanna pull over to them. And sometimes he would have a bit of a go.

Now he’s doing absolutely fantastic. 🙌

This was our fourth session today, and he nailed it.

We went down Seaburn Seafront. We passed an absolute ton of dogs, some staring at him, some trying to pull over and sniff him, some were barking at him.

He was literally very close to a lot of dogs today and just no bother at all.

He had a random step back one day last week, and it was just one day where he had a pop at two dogs, very close together, though.

But he’s done absolutely fantastic.

He’s got some brilliant owners that put in every effort they can.

So well done to you guys. Well done, Carrick. ❤️

🐾 WHAT A FANTASTIC CONFIDENCE & SENSORY WEEK!

Having a puppy that is confident in their own body and comfortable moving across different textures, heights, and through novel objects is the foundation for a resilient, optimistic adult dog!
Last night, our puppies took on our amazing Confidence Walk and brain games to supercharge their optimism, problem-solving skills, and body awareness:

📦 Cardboard Chaos: Exploring piles of boxes of all shapes and sizes to find scattered food—building awesome confidence around sudden movement, novel touch, and sound!

🧦 The Snuffle Mat: Tapping into their strongest sense by snuffling out tasty treats indoors, just like sniffing through grass outdoors.

🪴 The Planter: Using a wall planter on the floor to create an engaging scentwork game that built fantastic confidence as the pups relied purely on their noses!

🪣 The Noise Box: Helping the pups get comfortable around loud, novel sounds (like fireworks, thunder, or dropping pans) by giving them the choice to rummage through a bucket of recycling and noisy items for treats!

🧩 Brain & Problem-Solving Games: Licking KONGs and snake toys to release happy endorphins , tackling puzzle toys , and working out the tricky Turn Around toy to build resilience and grit!

🔴 Intro to Scentwork: Hiding food under upturned plant pots and cones with holes in the top, with the pups learning to indicate and show where the treat was hidden!

🌊 Paddle Paws: Stepping into a paddling pool with recycling, toys, and novel objects to build spatial awareness, foot placement, balance, and surface confidence!

⚠️ The Cone Game: A shaping game to prepare our puppies for real-life vet visits, muzzles, or recovery cones by letting them choose to put their own head into the object!

🪵 Paws Up: Teaching the pups to place their front paws onto novel objects to boost optimism and keep them engaged with their owners!

Every puppy worked at their own pace, and the guardians did an incredible job reading subtle body language (like lip licks, yawns, or low body posture) to ensure every pup felt safe and supported! A massive well done to all our brave Super Pups

🐾Week 5 in Sunderland 🐾

Tonight was week 5 of puppy class for our 3 gorgeous boys, and we had another busy session building on some really important life skills, and on building on what they have all learned so far.

We started with "Paw", helping our pups become more comfortable with having their feet handled, useful for everything from nail trims to checking paws and drying off those muddy feet!

We then put their "Leave" cue to the test, building on the foundations from previous weeks and helping them learn that sometimes leaving something alone can be just as rewarding.

Next up was "Drop", an important skill that could potentially help keep our dogs safe if they pick up something they shouldn't.

Of course, we also had some fun with our "What's This?" recall game, making coming back to their owners exciting and worthwhile, before finishing with some work on loose lead walking.

The boys are doing brilliantly, and it's lovely to see how far they, and their owners, have come throughout the course. 🥰

Next Monday is a bank holiday, so we'll be heading into their final class in 2 weeks' time… and then it will be time to see these gorgeous boys graduate! 🎓🐶
