UPDATE 16/09 - Casper has returned home safely

———————————————————————————

‼️ MISSING CAT ‼️

Please keep a look out for Casper, the male cat pictured below.

He is an indoor cat and unfortunately escaped from his home during the night. He has been missing from Fairlane Drive, South Ockendon, since 13/09.

If you have seen him or have any information about his whereabouts, please get in touch with us. If you are able to safely catch him and bring him into the practice, we will be able to contact his owner using his microchip details.

Please check garages, sheds, outbuildings and other enclosed areas as he may be hiding or trapped somewhere nearby.

Please share this post to help spread the word and bring him home safely. 🐾

Rusty 🧡

Another day, another grass seed. The season is upon us!

Rusty came to see us with a large swelling on his neck. Following further investigation, George suspected a foreign body and admitted him for sedation so the swelling could be lanced and explored.

During the procedure, George found a grass seed lodged beneath the skin. Rusty’s body had reacted to the foreign body, causing inflammation and swelling. This will begin to heal now that the foreign body has been removed.

Rusty was a very happy boy and enjoyed lots of fuss from the nursing team! Wishing you a speedy recovery 🐾

Sky 🩵🐾

Sky came to see us after her owners noticed persistent sneezing. On examination, our vet suspected a grass seed had become lodged in her nose. Under sedation, we were able to safely remove the grass seed.

Grass seeds can cause significant irritation and are usually found in the nose, ears, eyes and paws. We’ve listed a few signs to look out for below:

- Sudden or persistent sneezing
- Pawing at the nose or face
- Nasal discharge
- Excessive head shaking
- Excessive licking of paws
- Swelling, redness or discomfort

If you suspect your pet may have a grass seed, please contact us on 01708 670200 to book an appointment.

Rufus visited us recently for a demat/groom 🐾

Rufus is a medium-haired cat who suffers from arthritis and his coat had developed some mats that were becoming uncomfortable, especially with the warmer weather. We shaved away the matted fur and brushed out the rest to help him stay cooler and more comfortable.

He was a very patient boy 🐈‍⬛💛

12/06/2026

We have sadly had a deceased black, entire male domestic medium hair cat handed to us. Unfortunately, he was not microchipped so we have been unable to locate an owner. If you feel this may be your cat, please call us on 01708 670200 🌈

☀️🐶 Sunshine Safety 🐶☀️

As we look forward to the warmer weather, it’s important to remember that heat stroke can happen very quickly and can be a life threatening emergency.

What we recommend:
• Never leave dogs in cars
• Walk very early in the morning or late in the evening when the temperature is lower, avoid walks if necessary. Do not walk at peak times
• Keep fresh water available at all times
• Ensure your pet has shade and a cool space to sit in
• Do not walk your pet on hot pavements (can cause burns on the paw pads)

Signs to look out for:
• Heavy panting
• Excessive drooling
• Lethargy
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Bright red gums
• Collapse
• Seizures

If you think your dog is overheating:
• Get them out of the sun and into a cool space
• Use tepid water to cool your pet down - do not use cold water!

If you have any concerns or feel your pet needs to be urgently seen, please contact us on 01708 670200. For out-of-hours care, please contact Medivet Dartford 🐾
