Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service is a state-of-the-art veterinary practice located in Solihull, West Midlands. We provide top-quality care both for pets in the surrounding area and also for those referred to us by their own veterinary surgeons for specialist investigation and treatment. We have a team of highly trained and skilled veterinary specialists working in the fields of:

📢🐾 FREE CPD: Gastrointestinal Surgery 🐾📢

Join Dr Erika Villedieu, Specialist in Small Animal Surgery and Willows Internship Director, for an evening dedicated to the fundamental techniques of gastrointestinal surgery and practical tips to help avoid common complications. 🩺

The seminar will cover key aspects of gastrointestinal surgery, including:

🐾 Case selection and patient preparation
🐾 Surgical techniques and practical tips
🐾 Avoiding common complications
🐾 Postoperative care

There will also be plenty of opportunity for interactive discussion, making this a great opportunity to share knowledge and explore approaches to gastrointestinal surgical cases.

🐰💚 Supporting Better Rabbit Welfare at Willows! 💚🐰

We’re delighted to share that Willows is now a member of the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) as we continue working towards achieving a higher tier of accreditation with the association!

Rabbit welfare is an important part of providing the best possible care for our patients, and we’re committed to continually improving our knowledge, facilities and approach to their needs. 🐾

As part of this commitment, we’ve provided a selection of rabbit health and welfare posters and information leaflets available in our Exotics waiting area at reception. These resources are there for owners to browse while visiting us, helping them learn more about keeping their rabbits happy, healthy and comfortable.

From understanding their behaviour and environment to recognising their welfare needs, we hope these resources will help rabbit owners feel even more confident in caring for their companions. 🐇💚

We look forward to continuing our work towards the highest standards of rabbit care and welfare here at Willows!

🐶💚 Barney's Journey Back to Being a Puppy 💚🐶

Meet Barney, a beautiful 11 week old Cocker Spaniel who was referred to our Dentistry and Maxillofacial team after a dog attack left him unable to close his mouth.

The attack caused bilateral mandibular fractures, and with Barney being so young, repairing the fractures presented some additional challenges and required specialist intervention from Dr. James Haseler and the team. 🦷🐾

In this video, James explains what happened to Barney and how the team worked to repair his jaw and get him back on the road to recovery.

We're delighted to say that Barney is doing much better and is back to being his happy, playful self! 🥰🐶💚

🐾💚 Bow: Five Years Beyond His Cancer Diagnosis 💚🐾

Meet Bow, an incredible cancer survivor who has defied expectations after being diagnosed with an advanced oral melanoma at 11 years old.

Bow had a large, unresectable tumour in his mouth, and given the advanced stage of his cancer, his prognosis was extremely poor. Without treatment, his survival would have been expected to be just weeks, while even with standard treatment, it was expected to be less than a year.

In September 2021, Bow underwent electrochemotherapy, performed by Willows Oncologist Dr Chiara Penzo, followed by a melanoma vaccine.

Fast forward five years, and Bow is now over 15 years old and still enjoying life, including going on holiday! 🥰☀️

His incredible journey highlights the potential of advanced cancer treatments and the difference they can make, even in senior patients facing a very challenging prognosis.

As Chiara says:
"Bow is an example of hope and how electrochemotherapy that I am fortunate to offer at Willows can be life saving." 💚

We couldn't be happier to see Bow enjoying his golden years and continuing to make the most of every moment.

💊🐾 Happy World Pharmacist Day! 🐾💊

Today is World Pharmacist Day, and we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate our fantastic Pharmacy Team here at Willows! 💚

Our pharmacists are a vital part of the multidisciplinary team, helping to ensure our patients receive the right medications, at the right dose, in the right way.

Their specialist knowledge plays an important role in the care of our patients, from supporting the safe and effective use of medications to helping our clinical teams with complex cases and ensuring patients receive the most appropriate treatment throughout their time at Willows.

But it’s not just their clinical knowledge that makes them so valued. Their attention to detail, dedication and willingness to support our vets, nurses and patients make them an integral part of the Willows team. 🐶🐱💚

Today, we want to say a huge thank you to our pharmacy team for everything they do behind the scenes and on the frontline to help keep our patients safe and receiving the very best care.

🐱💚 Pippin's New Lease on Life 💚🐱

Meet Pippin, a young cat who was referred to Willows with a rare congenital condition affecting both of his upper eyelids.

Pippin was born with bilateral upper eyelid agenesis, meaning his upper eyelids had not fully formed. This left his eyes exposed and unable to blink properly, while hair from the surrounding area rubbed against the surface of his eyes, causing discomfort and putting him at risk of serious corneal damage.

To help Pippin, our team performed a staged bilateral lip-to-lid transposition flap procedure, an advanced reconstructive surgery where tissue from his lip was carefully transferred to create new, functional upper eyelids. 🩺✨

The surgeries were performed several weeks apart, allowing Pippin time to recover before his second procedure.

We're delighted to say that Pippin's recovery was a huge success! 🥰 His surgical sites healed beautifully, he is now able to achieve a complete blink to protect his eyes, and his previous signs of discomfort, including squinting and excessive watering, have resolved.

Pippin made an excellent recovery and was discharged from our care, ready to enjoy life much more comfortably! 🐾💚
