Duration training looks like this: practice recall in your kitchen with zero distractions.

Call your dog's name. The second they look at you, reward immediately with something they love (treat, toy, praise, whatever gets them excited).

That's it. You're building the habit that when they hear their name, looking at you is the best option.

Do this five times a day for a week. Just five. Nothing fancy.

Most dogs start responding faster just from that. You're not fighting them. You're showing them it's worth their while.

Your dog's recall fails in three main areas. Most owners focus on the wrong one.

Area 1: Distance. You want your dog to come when they're far away.

Area 2: Distraction. You want them to come even when something else is more interesting.

Area 3: Duration. You want them to come reliably, every single time, not just when they feel like it.

Here's what people usually do: they jump straight to distance and distraction without building duration first. Then they wonder why their dog ignores them.

Start with duration. It changes everything.
