Someone was very pleased to pop back and see us!

This gorgeous girl is Pepper, who visited the team for her post-operative check following her spay procedure.

While the surgery itself is an important step, the recovery period is just as crucial. Post-op checks allow our team to make sure everything is healing as it should, monitor the incision site and spot any signs of infection or complications before they become a problem.

At home, it's important to keep the wound clean and dry, limit activity as advised and prevent your pet from licking or scratching the area. Whether that's with a cone, inflatable collar or a medical suit, every pet (and owner!) tends to have their own favourite solution.

The good news is that most pets bounce back incredibly quickly and before long it's as if nothing ever happened!

If your pet has recently had surgery and you're worried about anything during their recovery, don't wait until your scheduled check-up. Our team is always happy to offer advice and answer any questions you may have.

Cuteness overload!

If you've visited the clinic, there's a good chance you've spotted Dr James with his little sidekick safely tucked away in a carrier on their latest adventure.

They're perfect for older dogs, poorly dogs, puppies or simply those little four-legged friends whose legs are much shorter than their enthusiasm!

Just because they can't walk for miles doesn't mean they should miss out on exploring new places, enjoying fresh air and taking in the views. After all, adventures are for every dog, no matter their size or age.

And let's be honest, there's something ridiculously cute about seeing a dog peeking out of a carrier taking in the world around them!

Scale & Polish Time!

We brush our teeth twice a day without even thinking about it, but when was the last time you checked your dog's teeth?

Just like us, our dogs can suffer from plaque build-up, gum disease and painful tooth problems if their teeth aren't looked after. We all know how miserable toothache can be, so it's important to remember that our pets can experience the same discomfort too.

Regular brushing, dental chews and routine dental checks can all help keep your dog's mouth healthy and prevent problems before they start. It's much easier (and kinder!) to prevent dental disease than it is to treat it once it becomes painful.

Here, our Trainee Veterinary Nurse Laura is carrying out a scale and polish procedure to remove plaque and tartar build-up, helping to keep this patient comfortable and pain-free.

A dental check is a great thing to ask about when your dog comes in for their annual vaccination or health check. Catching problems early can make a huge difference.

So while you're brushing your own teeth this morning, take a moment to think about your dog's too!

Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month Spotlight – Meet Christina 🩺🐾

This Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month, we'd like to shine a spotlight on one of our wonderful Registered Veterinary Nurses, Christina.

Christina qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2024 after completing her training in a small animal practice before joining The Vet Clinic team in March 2025. Since then, she has become a valued member of the team, helping to provide exceptional care and support to our patients and their owners every day.

One of Christina's favourite parts of the role is anaesthesia and theatre nursing. She particularly enjoys spending her mornings assisting with surgical procedures and monitoring patients throughout their operations, ensuring they receive the highest standard of care from start to finish. She also loves meeting pets and their families during nurse clinics and health checks, building relationships and helping owners keep their companions happy and healthy.

Like many veterinary nurses, Christina's role goes far beyond what people see in the consulting room. From caring for hospitalised patients and supporting surgical procedures to offering advice, reassurance and compassion to worried owners, veterinary nursing is a highly skilled profession that plays a vital role in animal welfare.

And her love of animals doesn't stop when she leaves work! Earlier this year, Christina welcomed a rescue dog from Birmingham Dogs Home into her family, giving a homeless dog the second chance they deserved.

When she's not at the clinic, Christina enjoys exploring local canal walks with her partner, as well as spending time with family and friends, including travelling overseas to visit loved ones.
