๐Ÿ’š World Mental Health Day โ€“ A little love for our veterinary team ๐Ÿ’š

Today, on World Mental Health Day, we want to shine a little light on the people behind the paws. ๐Ÿพ

The veterinary profession faces significant mental health challenges, and su***de rates within the profession are a serious concern. There are many contributing factors, but one thing we can all do is show a little more kindness and understanding.

We know how frustrating it can be when appointments run late, you're kept waiting, or we need to rearrange your visit. Your time matters, and we never take that for granted. โค๏ธ

But sometimes, there's a little more going on behind the scenes than you might realise.

You might not see the colleague giving another colleague a hug and a moment to gather themselves after a difficult case.

You might not see the team saying goodbye to a much-loved companion they've known for years, while supporting a heartbroken family.

You might not see the time, care and attention that goes into creating those precious paw prints, or the difficult conversations with owners who are desperately trying to work out what's best for their pet.

You don't always hear the phone calls with worried, distressed people looking for reassurance, or see the cases that take an unexpected turn.

And then, sometimes, we take a deep breath, wipe away a tear, put on our best smile and welcome the next patient through the door. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

At Coastal Vets, we pride ourselves on treating every pet as if they were our own. We care deeply about our patients, their families and each other. But we're human, too, and some days are harder than others.

Our vets, nurses and reception team work hard to give your pets the very best care, even on the difficult days.

So, if we're running a little behind, please remember there's often a reason. A little patience, a kind word or simply a smile can mean more than you know.

Kindness costs nothing, but it can make someone's day. ๐Ÿ’š

Today, let's look after the people who spend their days looking after our much-loved animals.

๐Ÿพ Happy National Veterinary Reception Appreciation Day! ๐Ÿพ
Today we want to say a HUGE thank you to our fabulous Fab Five โ€” Serena, Diane, Emma, Maddie & Catherine! ๐Ÿ’š
They are usually the first face you see and the first voice you hear when you contact Coastal Vets. From answering the phones and coordinating appointments, to managing repeat prescriptions and keeping front of house running smoothly โ€” our reception team is there through it all.
They deal with busy days, worried clients, excited puppies, concerned owners, unexpected changes and everything in between โ€” always with patience, compassion and a genuine love for our clients and their pets. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑโค๏ธ
So today, we want to recognise everything they do behind the scenes and at the front desk. Our practice simply wouldn't run the same without them.
Thank you, guys, for everything you do! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Good luck to our vet nurse Meg, who is running the Sandringham half marathon on Sunday!

So proud of her for the immense effort she has put in to get to this point - if you see someone looking stiff and sore on Monday it might be Meg!

A weekend shout out to Cedric. This bundle of fun came in today, he enjoyed his hugs and meeting the team. ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿšจ Check your dog's balls! ๐ŸŽพ

This week we treated an emergency with a very lucky outcome.

Have you ever stopped to think about whether the balls your dog plays with are the right size?

A ball that's too small can become a life-threatening hazard. Solid rubber balls become very slippery when wet and, if they are too small for your dog's mouth, can become lodged at the back of the throat, blocking the airway.

Thankfully, this dog was one of the lucky ones, but not every pet is.

๐Ÿ€Choose balls that are too large to fit fully into your dog's mouth.

๐ŸฅŽ Check toys regularly for damage or wear.

โšพ๏ธ Supervise play whenever possible.

โšฝ๏ธ Some rubber balls have a hole through the centre. If the unthinkable happens this can provide a vital airway while you get to your nearest vets practice.

Take a moment to check your dog's toys todayโ€”it could save their life. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿพ When a walk turns into a trip to the vets...
A young Labrador recently came to see us after doing what Labradors do best โ€“ leading the way on a walk and sniffing every fantastic smell Norfolk has to offer! ๐Ÿถ
Halfway through the walk, he suddenly started sneezing... and he just couldn't stop.
Our first suspicion? A grass seed. These tiny seeds are a common problem at this time of year and can work their way into ears, paws, eyes and even noses.
Sometimes we're able to have a look up the nose using a cone with a light attached, but on this occasion nothing was visible. As the sneezing continued, he needed a sedation so we could investigate further.
Using our bronchoscope (a very fine endoscope designed to explore narrow spaces such as the airways), we carefully examined the nasal passage. Right at the very back of the nostril, embedded in the soft tissue, was the tiny tip of a grass seed.
With some very fine specialist forceps, we were able to carefully grasp it and remove it completely. ๐Ÿ™Œ
๐ŸŽฅ Watch the video to see exactly what we saw and the moment the grass seed was removed!
If your dog suddenly develops persistent sneezing after a walk, especially during grass seed season, it's always worth getting them checked. The sooner they're removed, the less chance they have of migrating and causing more serious problems.
