🧠 Your dog's body language during treatment 🐾

Dogs can't tell us how they're feeling with words, so we need to pay attention to what their body is telling us. 💙

During physio, I’m always watching for little signals that tell me how a dog is coping.

🐾 Relaxed muscles and soft eyes
🐾 Choosing to settle or lean into a treatment
🐾 Turning away or repeatedly moving position
🐾 Lip licking, yawning or suddenly becoming tense

These signals need to be considered in context — a yawn doesn't always mean stress, just as being still doesn't necessarily mean a dog is comfortable.

Every dog is different, and treatment should work at their pace. Sometimes it takes a few sessions to build trust, and that's absolutely fine!

The goal isn't just to treat your dog. It's to help them feel safe and comfortable throughout the process. 🐶💙

As the weather changes, take a little extra time to check your older dog. 💙

☐ Getting up comfortably
☐ Walking as they normally would
☐ Coping on slippery floors
☐ Still happy to go on walks
☐ Grooming themselves normally
☐ Getting in and out of the car comfortably
☐ Lying down and getting back up without difficulty

Small changes can be easy to miss, especially when they happen gradually.

Ageing is normal. Struggling isn't something we should automatically put down to age.

If you notice changes, speak to your vet. Physiotherapy may also help support your dog's comfort and mobility as they get older. 🐾

👀 5 tiny changes you shouldn’t ignore

Dogs are very good at adapting, so changes can sometimes be easy to miss.

Keep an eye out for:
1️⃣ Taking longer to get up after resting
2️⃣ Not jumping into the car as readily
3️⃣ Slowing down or stopping more often on walks
4️⃣ Changes in how they sit, lie down or use the stairs
5️⃣ Being less keen to play or do things they normally enjoy

These changes don’t automatically mean something is wrong, but anything different from what is normal for your dog is worth noticing.

Knowing your dog’s normal movement and behaviour makes it easier to spot when something changes. 💙

If you notice a persistent change, speak to your vet. Physiotherapy may also be helpful, depending on your dog’s individual needs.

🍂 Autumn walks: great for dogs… but watch the ground

Autumn walks are some of the best! 🍁🐾 But the ground can change quite a lot this time of year.

Wet leaves, mud, slippery paths, hidden holes and uneven ground can all make movement more challenging.

A few things to think about:
🐾 Slow down on slippery surfaces
🐾 Be mindful of sudden changes in terrain
🐾 Check paws after muddy walks
🐾 Give your dog time to warm up before faster exercise
🐾 Watch how they move, particularly on unfamiliar ground

And don't forget — different surfaces provide different challenges, so variety can be great when introduced appropriately.

🐾 Notice small changes early
🐾 Help you understand how to support your dog at home

🍁 Keep movement consistent where possible
🍁 Watch out for slippery leaves & floors
🍁 Keep up with their physio exercises
🍁 Notice any small changes in how they move

And remember, physio isn't just for when something goes wrong — regular, appropriate physiotherapy can be a valuable part of keeping your dog moving well throughout their life. 💙

What a month.

September has officially been my busiest month since restarting Top Form — and I genuinely can't thank everyone enough. 🥹🐾

Starting a business again after moving to a new area is tough. Building new connections, getting your name out there and finding those first clients takes time, so seeing Top Form gradually grow has meant so much to me.

Every booking, recommendation, share, message and friendly hello at the local markets makes a difference. ❤️

I'm so grateful to everyone who has trusted me with their animals, supported my little business and helped spread the word.

And to all the lovely dogs, cats and horses I've had the pleasure of working with this month… thank you for keeping me busy! 🐶🐈🐴
