Pet Travel Rules to the EU (From 22 April 2026)
The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) has issued communication outlining important changes for anyone travelling from Great Britain (GB) to the EU with dogs, cats, or ferrets.
๐พ Whatโs changing?
From Wednesday 22 April 2026, new EU rules will apply for non-commercial pet travel from GB to the EU.
โ Key points for pet owners:
EU Pet Passports will no longer be valid for GB residents travelling to the EU โ even if issued before this date (including those from EU countries or Northern Ireland).
Animal Health Certificates (AHCs) will now be required for travel to the EU with dogs, cats, and ferrets.
No changes to pet entry requirements into Great Britain.
Always check entry requirements with your destination country before travelling.
