Meet Milo🐾

A little ear trouble for this handsome boy👂🐶
Poor Milo had an aural haematoma which is a collection of blood between the skin and cartilage of the ear flap, often caused by head shaking or scratching due to an underlying ear problem. 🐾

Why do we put buttons on a dog’s ears after an aural haematoma repair? 🩺
Buttons may be placed on either side of the ear flap and secured with sutures to act as pressure supports.

🐾 Their main purposes are to:

🩹 Apply even pressure across the ear flap to help prevent blood from building up again.
💉 Reduce dead space between the skin and cartilage, allowing the tissues to sit together and heal.
🐕 Help prevent recurrence of the haematoma while the ear heals.
🩺 Support the ear flap and help reduce the risk of further fluid accumulation.

💡 Top tip for owners: If you notice any swelling or discomfort around your dog’s ears, book a veterinary appointment. Avoid squeezing the swelling or trying to treat it at home.

A big cuddle for this brave boy who very much enjoyed being by spoon fed on his visit❤️
