The Autumn/Winter ’26 edition of Chicken & Egg magazine has arrived! 🐔📖💚 British Hen Welfare Trust

Lovely to see the fabulous Mel B gracing the front cover of this issue, talking all things wellness and describing hens as “magical creatures”, something I couldn’t agree with more! “scary spice Mel B” 🥰

And still a little surreal to be flicking through the pages and seeing myself in the Dengie Fresh Bed advert! 🥹🐔💚 Something I’ll never quite get used to! Dengie Horse Feeds

For those who don’t know, Chicken & Egg is the British Hen Welfare Trust’s magazine, packed with interesting articles, hen-keeping advice, inspiring stories and all things chicken!

If you’re not already receiving a copy, head over to the British Hen Welfare Trust website to find out how you can sign up and receive future editions!

A lovely read with a cuppa! ☕🐔❤️

I absolutely adore visiting this lovely client’s animals, but what makes it even more special is seeing just how much love, time and care she puts into every single one of them ❤️

They all have their own little personalities, stories and backgrounds. But they’ve all found themselves in a home where they are truly loved and cherished 🥹

And can you believe this beautiful cat Molly was once a barn cat?! Just look at her now! She’s certainly enjoying the finer things in life, and if she takes a liking to you, you’ll know all about it! 😂❤️

What I love most is seeing how happy, relaxed and content all these animals are. It’s a real reflection of the love and dedication that goes into caring for them 🫶🏼

I always say that animals give us so much more than we could ever give them. The companionship, the trust, the affection and the sheer joy they bring into our lives is something really quite special 🥺

And I think this lovely little bunch are proof that when you pour your heart into your animals, they give that love right back, tenfold ❤️

This is what it’s all about, isn’t it? 🐓🐈🐾

Places to be and people to see 👁️🐓🫶🏼

Some of you eagle-eyed followers may have spotted Olive’s rather fabulous mode of transport before! 😂💗

Yes, that really is a chicken in a pink pet carrier, and yes, she travels in style! 💁‍♀️🐔

This is how our lovely Olive travels when we head off on our adventures visiting schools, care homes and other facilities, spreading a little feathered happiness wherever we go! 🥰

I know it might look a little unusual, but this carrier is designed for pets, with ventilation holes to allow airflow, and Olive is perfectly content inside. In fact, she gets so comfortable that she often settles herself down for the journey! 😂

She’s never in her carrier for long, and I’m always mindful of her comfort and wellbeing when we’re out and about! She is my pet and her welfare comes above all 🙂

Olive has become quite the little professional when it comes to meeting people, and I think it’s only right that a hen with such an important job has her own little first-class travel arrangements! ✨

Move over, Paris Hilton! 🐔💅

🍫 Well, this is a first! 😬❤️

Someone has left chocolates in the honesty box! 🤣 Now, I’m not sure whether this is a random act of kindness, a new form of currency, or whether I’ve got myself a secret admirer! 👀💘😂

Whoever you are, thank you for the sweet surprise! 🥹❤️

Although I must say, if chocolates are the new currency, just for reference I’m more of a savoury girl! 😏🐔💕

🚜🐔 ad | A PROPER OLD-SCHOOL FARM SHOP! ❤️

Forget your ordinary shopping trip… this is the kind of farm shop that has a little bit of EVERYTHING! 😍

Brambledown is honestly one of those lovely traditional farm shops that you just don’t see enough of anymore! And it’s certainly not just about animal feed! 🐓

🥖 A bakery full of delicious goodies
💐 Beautiful flowers and plants
🥕 Fresh produce from local farms
🥒 Traditional jams, chutneys and pickles
🐴 Dengie animal feed and bedding
🐦 Food for all kinds of birds
🦙 Supplies for alpacas and llamas
🐶 Food and essentials for cats and dogs
🥔 Big sacks of potatoes
And SO much more!

What I love is that real old-school farm shop feel, with local produce, local farmers and a wonderful variety of things all under one roof!

As a small business owner myself, I know just how important it is to support local businesses, and places like Brambledown are exactly why! ❤️

I’m so pleased to be working alongside Brambledown and can’t wait to share more with you all 🏬

Tell me I’m not the only one who goes into a farm shop for one thing and comes out with ten! 😂🛍️

Isn’t she just BEAUTIFUL?! 😍🐔❤️

Just look at this gorgeous girl showing off her freshly made bed! 🫶🏼 A cosy coop, a happy hen and a whole lot of fluff! 😌

My hens are moulting at the moment! Moulting can be a pretty demanding time for our feathered friends! As hens shed their old feathers and grow beautiful new ones, their bodies are working extra hard, and those emerging pin feathers can be particularly sensitive 😬

That’s why a comfortable, clean and dry bed is especially important during moulting season! 🛌

A lovely layer of Dengie Fresh Bed for Chickens provides soft, absorbent bedding for our girls to rest on, helping to keep their environment fresh and comfortable while they go through their annual feather makeover 🪶

And with the colder months creeping in, keeping their bedding dry and draught-free is even more important, especially for hens sporting a few bald patches! 🫪

Because moulting is hard work, and every girl deserves somewhere cosy to rest her feathers… even when she’s temporarily missing a few! 😂❤️

🤍 SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM ME TODAY, BUT SOMETHING I THINK IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO SHARE… 🐔🐾

As bird owners, we know just how much our feathered friends mean to us. They’re not simply chickens, ducks or geese. They’re much-loved members of our families, each with their own little personalities, quirks and special place in our hearts 🫶🏼

But something I think we don’t talk about enough is what happens when it’s time to say goodbye 💔 Unlike cats and dogs, finding suitable cremation and aftercare services for our beloved birds isn’t always straightforward.

That’s why I wanted to introduce you to Country Pet Cremations 🤍

Set in the beautiful Kent countryside near Faversham, Country Pet Cremations is a family-run business offering compassionate and dignified pet aftercare in a truly peaceful setting 🌷

They offer individual cremations, a private family room for those precious final goodbyes, and a beautiful selection of memorial keepsakes, including paw prints, feathers or fur where suitable, urns and personalised jewellery 💎💍

I’ve also had the pleasure of meeting the lovely owner, Rhia, and it’s clear just how much love and care goes into what she does 😍

Of course, many of my Hen Weekend customers have other pets too, so this is a recommendation for all my fellow animal lovers, whether your companions have feathers, fur or paws! 🐾

Nobody likes to think about losing a beloved pet, but I think it’s important that we know what options are available when that difficult time comes.

Because a little hen can leave just as big a footprint on your heart as any other animal 🤍

🐔❤️ Sometimes the smallest visitors leave the biggest impressions…

A few weeks ago, my lovely hen Olive and I had the absolute privilege of being invited into the NHS Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital for a rather special visit 💕

We were welcomed by the most wonderful, friendly staff and had the pleasure of spending time with some lovely young people who were keen to meet Olive, learn a little about hens and even have a cuddle 🥰

I’ve always believed that animals have an incredible way of connecting with people. They can bring comfort, encourage conversation, lift our spirits and have such a positive impact on our mental health and wellbeing ❤️

I remember looking around the room at one point and noticing just how quiet it had become. Everyone was completely mesmerised by Olive 🥹

No need for conversation, no expectations, just everyone enjoying the peaceful presence of a lovely little hen!

And that’s the beauty of animals. Sometimes they can bring a little happiness, comfort and connection in ways that words simply can’t 🙏🏼

Let’s face it, a chicken isn’t exactly your typical visitor to a hospital! 😂🐔 But I think that’s part of the magic. Hens are such gentle, inquisitive little characters, and I absolutely love being able to share just how wonderful they are.

I am incredibly lucky that I get to share my love of hens in places like this and hopefully bring a little bit of joy along the way 😃

🎬 BLOOPERS: Because not everything goes to plan! 😂🐔

I promise I do actually know what I’m doing! 😂

You normally get to see the finished videos, the happy hens and everything looking lovely… but behind the scenes? Well, that’s a different story! 🤣

Working with animals means expecting the unexpected, and filming content with them is certainly no exception!

A little reminder that behind every polished post is a lot of hard work, plenty of patience and usually a good few laughs along the way! Because being professional doesn’t mean you can’t have fun doing what you love! ❤️🐔

Enjoy a little behind-the-scenes chaos with Hen Weekend! 🎬😂
