🐔🌿 HAPPY BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND! 🌿🐔

Well… the weather might not be looking too cracking this Bank Holiday ☔️😂 but it’s certainly a busy one here at Hen Weekend, with lots of lovely guests checking in! 🐔🏨💚

I know I’ve been a little quieter than usual on social media lately, life has just been SO busy that unfortunately socials have taken a bit of a back seat! 🥺

But don’t worry… I’m still very much here. You won’t get rid of me that easily 😂🐔

There have also been some very exciting changes in my personal life recently 🥰 and with back-to-school just around the corner, I’m looking forward to getting back into a proper routine again!

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose routine completely goes out the window during the school holidays?! 😂🙋🏼‍♀️

For now, I’ve got a busy Bank Holiday weekend ahead looking after all our feathered holidaymakers! 🐔💚 Whatever you’re up to, have a lovely Bank Holiday weekend, even if it is a soggy one! ☔️🐔

✨ GCSE RESULTS DAY ✨

Today, so many young people will open an envelope and see a set of grades on a piece of paper. Please remember, that piece of paper does NOT define you, your worth, or your future ❤️

Whether you got exactly what you hoped for or things didn’t quite go to plan, you have not failed. Life is about what you make of it. Work hard. Take opportunities. Learn from the knockbacks. Believe in yourself. Follow your dreams, even when other people tell you they’re unrealistic 💭

Some of the best things in life don’t come with a grade attached to them. Kindness, determination, creativity, resilience, ambition and the courage to keep going can take you further than you realise 💪

I’m living proof that your path doesn’t have to be perfect or conventional to make something of yourself. If I can chase my dreams and create a life I’m proud of, you can too..

So celebrate your results today, whatever they look like. And if they weren’t what you wanted, pick yourself up and find another route 🗺️

Well, this has absolutely made Fred’s day! 🥹❤️

Every time we visit Brambledown, the first thing he asks is, “Is Brambles the cat here?” Sadly, we’ve always just missed her… until today! 🐱

Not only did he finally get to meet the very famous Brambles, but when we walked out the shop she followed him and he even got to give her a stroke. Safe to say he was absolutely over the moon 🐈‍⬛

🦆 Welcome to the family, Donald! 🏡💛

Some of you may already recognise this little chap! Donald is one of the ducks we’ve regularly looked after over the years, and we’re so excited to say he’s now officially part of the Hen Weekend family 🫶🏼

Fred is absolutely over the moon to have had the chance to give Donald his forever home 🥹

At the moment he is having a bit of a moult, so he’s taking life at his own pace while he settles in. He’s such a sweet, diddy little boy with bags of character 😂

We can’t wait to make many happy memories with him 🙏

🐓🥚 DID YOU KNOW? 🥚🐓

One of the questions I’m asked all the time is…

🤔 “Why are some supermarket eggs white and others brown?”

The answer… it’s simply down to the breed of the hen! 🐔

Just like dogs come in different breeds, so do chickens. Some breeds naturally lay white eggs, some brown, and some even lay beautiful blue or green eggs! 💙💚

✨ Here’s another egg myth…
Brown eggs aren’t healthier than white eggs. The shell colour doesn’t change the nutrition or taste!

What really matters is the welfare of the hen that laid the egg❤️

Tonight I had the privilege of being invited to speak at the Sheerness Town Council Full Council meeting about the growing issue of catapult attacks on wildlife 🦆

The council were incredibly welcoming and made it clear that tackling this issue is something they take very seriously. They were particularly keen to hear from someone who sees the reality of these incidents firsthand and were very positive about working together going forward. I’m really pleased that they would like me to continue being involved and support future work around education and wildlife welfare.

As someone who regularly gets called to take on injured birds, I witness the heartbreaking aftermath of these attacks. It’s not just the animals that suffer – it’s also the wildlife rescuers, carers and sanctuaries who are left trying to save them, often from horrific injuries 😢

It was encouraging to see councillors and Kent Police in the room, all discussing what can realistically be done to tackle the problem. I shared my experiences, offered my support, and I’m hopeful that by working together we can make a real difference through education, awareness and community engagement 🙏🏼

It was also fascinating to hear about the many different issues our local council deals with. I’d never attended a full council meeting before, and I came away with a real appreciation for the work that goes on behind the scenes in our community 🧡

A huge thank you to Sheerness Town Council for inviting me and making me feel so welcome. It was a genuine pleasure to attend, and I’m looking forward to working together in the future to help protect the wildlife we all care about 🥰

Together, we can be a voice for those that don’t have one🦉🦆🐦💚

School holidays mean I’ve got my little helper by my side… and I wouldn’t have it any other way ❤️

Fred absolutely loves animals, and whenever he comes along with his mummy, he helps with so much. Whether it’s giving them cuddles, collecting eggs, or making sure everyone gets a fuss, he takes such pride in caring for them 🥰

I believe that teaching children the value of work, empathy, kindness and compassion towards animals gives them skills they’ll carry for life. Caring for another living thing teaches patience, responsibility and respect in a way nothing else can 👌🏽

So if you’ve booked Hen Weekend this summer, just know your feathered family are in double safe hands…! ❤️🐔

To the owner, if you happen to see this, I am so incredibly sorry. I can’t begin to imagine the trauma of witnessing something so cruel. Please know that if you need someone to talk to or support from someone who understands how much birds mean to us, my inbox is always open ❤️

This has to stop.

Animal cruelty is not a joke. It isn’t “kids being kids”, and it certainly isn’t entertainment. Every act of cruelty causes suffering; not just to the animal, but to the people who love them too.

As a community, we need to keep speaking up, reporting incidents, educating young people and standing together. Whether it’s a duck, a hen, a swan, a pigeon or any other animal, they all deserve kindness and protection.

Let’s make it clear that cruelty to animals is never acceptable ❌❌❌

Yobs pluck a duck
Police are searching for three teenagers seen attacking a pet duck in Eastchurch.
The pet’s owner watched horrified as the thugs held down the animal and ripped out its feathers. One was said to be holding a knife.
The attack happened on Saturday night (July 11).
A Kent Police spokesman said: “We were called to a property in Church Road at about 9.37pm on Saturday after the homeowner reported three young people were in her garden and holding the duck down while plucking and cutting its feathers.
“She reported that one of them was in possession of a knife.”
Officers attended and are carrying out enquiries to identify the suspects.
The attackers are described three white boys aged 14 to 15 years old.
The first boy was tall with blond hair and wearing an England football shirt and chino-style shorts.
The second is of “stocky build” with dark blond/brown hair and wearing a black T-shirt and black shorts.
The third was slim with blond hair and wearing an England football shirt and blue shorts.
