🦔🦉🐿️ Happy National Wildlife Day! 🦊🦌🦡

Today we’re celebrating the incredible wildlife that shares our world and reminding everyone of the important role we can all play in protecting it. 🌿💚

From tiny hedgehogs and garden birds to foxes, badgers and larger wildlife, our native animals sometimes need a helping hand. If you find an injured or unwell wild animal, please seek advice from a wildlife rescue organisation or your local veterinary practice before attempting to handle or treat it yourself.

A few simple things you can do to help wildlife:
🌱 Provide safe spaces and natural habitats in your garden
💧 Leave out fresh water, especially during hot weather
🦔 Check long grass and bonfires carefully before using machinery or lighting them
🐦 Keep cats and dogs under control around vulnerable wildlife
🚗 Take extra care on roads, particularly at dawn and dusk

Every small action can make a difference. 💚
Let’s give a little love to the wild neighbours who make our world so special! 🐾🌎

🧡🐾 Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day 🐾🧡

Today we’re celebrating the fiery, fabulous felines who brighten our homes with their bold personalities and beautiful orange coats.

Did you know…

🐱 Ginger cat genetics — Most ginger cats are male (around 80%) because of how the orange gene works. The ginger colour comes from a pigment called pheomelanin, the same pigment that gives humans red hair.

🐈 Coat patterns — Every ginger cat is technically a tabby, even if their stripes are subtle.

🧡 Big personalities — Many ginger cats are known for being chatty, cuddly, and full of mischief.

Help us celebrate today by sharing a photo of your ginger feline companions 📷 🧡🐾

Take a moment today to remember their favourite things, the funny moments, the cuddles, and all the unconditional love they gave you. 🌈❤️

🚨 IMPORTANT PET FOOD RECALL – YEARS DOG FOOD 🚨

‼️We want to make our clients aware of the voluntary recall of Years fresh dog food in the UK.

Years has recalled its fresh meals following reports of dogs developing keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), commonly known as dry eye. The potential link between the food and these cases is currently being investigated.

If your dog eats Years food:
❌ Stop feeding Years immediately, even if your dog currently appears completely well.
❌ Do not give the food to another pet or donate it.
✅ Contact Years regarding the recall and disposal/collection of the food.
✅ Introduce an alternative complete diet.

Please contact us promptly if your dog has been eating Years and you notice any eye problems, particularly:
• Red or inflamed eyes
• Squinting or keeping the eyes closed
• Increased blinking
• Excessive or thick/mucoid discharge
• Cloudiness or a change in the appearance of the eyes
• Signs of eye pain or discomfort

Dry eye can be painful and, if severe or untreated, can result in corneal ulceration and permanent damage to vision, so please don't wait for symptoms to worsen.

If your pet has been fed Years food and you are concerned, please contact the practice for advice.

Please share this post to help other dog owners who may not yet be aware of the recall. 🐾

🐾 Check the Chip Day 🐾

1 in 3 pets will get lost during their lifetime — but a microchip can be the difference between lost and found. 🏠

In England, microchipping is compulsory for all dogs by 8 weeks and all owned cats by 20 weeks. 🐱🐶

A microchip is a tiny capsule, about the size of a grain of rice, placed under the skin. It holds a unique number linked to your contact details on a secure database, helping vets and other organisations reunite lost pets with their families.

Implantation takes seconds, feels like a normal injection and doesn’t require surgery or anaesthesia. 💉

Microchipping is included in our Bobbing Hill Plan, giving your pet essential protection as part of their preventive healthcare. 💙

Please remember: a chip is only useful if the details are correct. Make sure your phone number and address are always up to date. Not doing so can lead to a fine of up to £500. You can update your pet’s microchip online, by phone or by post (depending on the database). 📞 ✉️

If you’re unsure who your pet’s microchip is registered with, we’re happy to scan the chip and let you know. 🏥

Let’s keep our fur babies safe and check their chips today. 🥰

🌒 Solar Eclipse Tonight: Keep Your Pets Safe! 🐾

While a solar eclipse is an exciting event for us, it’s still important to think about our pets’ safety.

☀️ Keep pets indoors during the eclipse where possible.

👀 Never encourage pets to look directly at the sun. Regular sunglasses are not suitable eye protection for people or pets.

🏡 Stick to normal routines — most pets are unlikely to be significantly affected by the eclipse itself, but keeping them comfortable and settled can help.

🚶 Take walks before or after the eclipse rather than during it, particularly if your pet becomes unsettled by changes in their environment.

If you notice your pet showing signs of eye discomfort, such as squinting, excessive tearing or keeping their eyes closed, contact your vet for advice.

Enjoy the eclipse safely — and give your furry friends an extra cuddle from us! 🐶🐱💙
