Meet Sunni. ๐ฑ๐
Not every grooming appointment ends with a freshly groomed catโฆ and that's okay.
Sunni came to Clip and Purr to have some mats removed from her back and enjoy a brush out. Her owner had already let me know that brushing wasn't exactly her favourite activity at home, so I knew we might have a challenge ahead.
After giving Sunni some time to settle in, we started with a nail trim... and let's just say she made her feelings very clear. ๐
When I began carefully clipping away a few of her mats, I could see almost immediately that she was becoming overwhelmed. She started panting, hissing, and launching herself at me like a furry rocket.
At that point, I made the decision to stop the groom.
As much as I love a spicy kitty, there are times when continuing simply isn't in the cat's best interest. Grooming should never come at the expense of a cat's wellbeing, and knowing when to stop is just as important as knowing how to groom.
Every cat is different. Some need extra time, some need multiple short visits to build trust, and some may require grooming under veterinary care. Listening to what they're telling us is all part of providing compassionate, fear-free handling.
Sunni may not have had her full makeover today, but she reminded me of one of the most important parts of my job: the cat always comes first. ๐๐พ
